Skidding with new rear tyres
IngusSeflers replied to fsa's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Are we talking about cheap Chinese summer rubber in January? :peek: -
You need two pairs of T10s and two pairs of Festoon type, I guess it was 36mm in size. Recommend eBay seller; http://www.ebay.de/bhp/led-soffitte

DSG gearbox oil amount and filter location

It was just my opinion about OEM oils with some arguments... not always 'correct one' is the 'right one' Anyways your choice is How many people, so many opinions. -

100% agree about Parts, but oils are different story! For example; BMW Replace Castrol with Shell as OEM product. As it was shown in so many independent tests, Shell is under every expectations. So I prefer not to use OEM oils. Good for us in Germany, we have TÜV (certification and quality organization) and some producers make tests there to show to customer that product meets all ISO and EU standards and can be cold as OEM spec product. For instance upgrade parts on car must be with TÜV certificate otherwise you can forget about 'MOT' called in UK That means all spare parts with TÜV certificate can be fitted on car with "no worries man-good as OEMs" -

I'm not saying that OEM is not good, just wanted to say VAG not produce oil's. And some of oil producers (sometimes more than one) delivers to factory and/or dealers garage. In DSG case in Germany that is 'Mobil' which in opinion is not the best in 'Price-Performance' same spec oil I buying for ~40% cheaper, from company with not so big name. But if you are happy and money is not a problem for you -

That is what surprise me! Factories like BOSCH, MANN etc. produces OEM stuff for many companies and packing also is OEM with Company logos on it etc... you know what I mean?! So,question is; How eBay sellers can get these Original parts in 'original' packing? Producers supplies ONLY main dealers with OEM packing. You can't buy MANN filter in VW OEM pack by your local part store! In same time that filter meet OEM standards and can be used like OEM. So,resume! OEM packed parts online are 90% fake... sad but true -

OEM oils are not always the best way to go. On the market you can find much better and not so expansive brands. Sample what I would recommend: https://www.motor-oel-guenstig.de/Getriebeoel/Automatikgetriebe/fuer-Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/ROWE-HIGHTEC-ATF-DCG-Getriebeoel-fuer-DSG-Getriebe::592.html -

use OEM filters ONLY! Saving a couple of € will turn into a huge disaster on the end! -

Before you make any decision about ECU replacement, you need to be sure about 'real world'. Check that pin with multimeter on connector side with connected to the ECU and running engine. Then with disconnected from ECU. See results then... Sorry about my English :p

Service Comment - Act or Ignore
IngusSeflers replied to Border Collie's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
1 second is ok, 2 is already 'something wrong' 7 year old battery must be already 2 ago recycled. no matter how it feels and looks, 5 year is MAX for battery on the car. -
No,this is not normal. These reading are actual from ECU connector tested with multimeter or live data on screen from diagnostic tool?

Fuel consumption lower than normal
IngusSeflers replied to hmmmm's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
It's all about winter time...engine operating temperature is reaching slower, blower motor revs faster, headlights are used longer, rear windscreen heater, seat heating etc. That all is extra load for alternator. 2mpg is peanuts, there is nothing to worry about! -
Car can't loose water, water is prohibited in machinery! :p If you use coolant, red or green (green is better to be spotted) all leaks can be seen, if no obvious leaks that can mean cylinder head gasket. What about exhaust gases, there is no white steam? and 50 000 mls is nothing for good maintained engine

Thanks for advice! Maintenance-servicing I do myself, I'm mechanic on my daily basis :peek: of course I followed the dealer's maintenance program and use OEM filters but oil I choose better. Air filter I change every 4th 'oil change' there is no point to change air filter every 4-5 month Pollen/Cabin filter and Fuel filter once a year. Break fluid I changed last year already but thanks for attention and advice anyway

I use ROWE oil for my both cars Octavia II 1.6tdi (VW 504/507 oil) and BMW 728i (BMW longlife-04). Happy with quality, on petrol engine by draining oil color is light brown. This means the oil is able to keep its functions at high temperatures. Use this oil with the OEM oil filter and make 10 000 km between servicing. Best price-performance 5L 35.44€ delivered

how bad/good is your car in the snow
IngusSeflers replied to mobo's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)

If I understand it correctly, the PD170 is the worst that man can wish their enemies ?! 50% of the post consists of the problems with this engine and always adds 'common' problem. People continue to climb the same mistakes and asks the same questions. Each manufacturer commits an error, and the error from VAG is PD170 engine. Maybe think about before you buy them? @ silver1011 Now I look forward to cursing on the opening of a new post on an old theme.

The Road Traffic Regulations in Germany say no special period is prescribed for winter tires. You can drive all year long with summer tires, but in case of accident Insurance won't cover your damages etc. It's all about Road Safety, you can't drive safe in winter with inappropriate tires, simple is that! Some amateur tire test made in UK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STaximkaQxo
