  1. Your dealer sounds stupid in assuming that there would be no internal engine damage. They should of said we need to fit the new chain and see if it has caused any lasting damage. So get the £270 back and I would snap up the £500 new engine. It will come with new injectors and the revised chain set up. These engine's are around £1300 plus vat to buy plus labour. Your sloping drive should not be an issue if it slopes up or down. The oil pump strainer is on the left hand side as you look at the engine with the bonnet open.

  2. The whole thing is rubbish. The touchscreen is just one of a number of faults with this entertainment unit. The hardware unit in the glovebox often freezes and the dealer's are told by Suk to carry out a Fes clear down on the hardware unit (function clear down ) which is basically a reboot of the hardware unit. I would just continue taking it back again and again to your dealer. Try videoing the faulty unit. Your dealer is hoping that you will go away as it's hard for them and lengthy to get the correct repair. Skoda will only pay the dealer 12 minutes labour to replace the hardware unit. The dealer will spend hour's proving and justifying the hardware unit is at fault. They are fingers crossed you will give up.

  3. Had to get into a Ford Transit last week the rear door lock and the side door lock had packed up. I broke into it so I could fix it for the customer. Surprisingly easy I was in after less than 15 minutes and that was in front of the customer so I was being diplomatic. Take your tools out.

  4. Yep. Drilling the rivets is the way forward. Quite rare for the rear window regulator to pack up. Most likely to be the plastic pin has fallen out of the window glass. This plastic pin is in 2 parts an outer plastic ring with a plastic pin. This pin goes through the regulator and through the glass. Iirc there is an inspection hole for the pin and it's fiddly and tricky but possible to fit another without removing the rivets or regulator.

  5. Just out of interest can they tell if your system needs a regass without actually re gassing it in other words when they connect up their machine to your car will it tell them if the coolant is low

Probably not. If the system pressures are ok ie 10 bar high side and 2 bar low side ac turned on. This proves system is ok but they will not know density. The only way to know the density is to remove the refrigerant weigh it in grams or in other words an ac regas is the only way to know for sure.

  6. The control ring for the variable vanes stick. Forte normally sorts it. If it's more advanced I remove the egr pipe and spray wd 40 in the hole whilst moving the actuator. Then a bloody good spanking down the motorway.

If it's really really bad I just repeat this procedure over and over.
