1. Removing the ECU is not an option (car needed every day) and if I wanted to f**k my ECU up then I'd buy the software and do it myself rather than let some ebay chimp do the same! Any remap will be done while I'm on the premises, and verified on a dyno there and then!
2. I'm starting to think that maybe the generic would be ok but I would definately want a dyno run after to see what it produces - with the average cost of this being around £50 it's only about £50 shy of the custom one, hence my dilema!
3. HELP!!! I've just posted in the group buy thread for the jabba remap but I thought I'd ask here (as a search didn't yield much) people's opinions on custom vs generic remaps. I've researched quite a bit on the subject since joining here over a year ago and was pretty much sold on the idea of letting jabba do their thing sometime early next year (Even have SWMBO's permission :P) but after having a dyno run done locally the chap there has put some doubt in my mind as to which way to go. My thoughts were to get a custom rolling road job done to ensure the best, smooth and reliable power increase, taking into account the need to not kill the clutch in a few thousand miles etc - I don't drive it that hard regularly but want to release some extra horses for those occasions I do, and improve fuel economy if possible when not ragging it . If I only planned to replace the recirc valve, and possibly get a better air filter (panel?) without touching exhaust or intercooler etc, would it still be better for me to pay the extra and have the custom map? My concerns with generic are that I may end up with flat spots, boost spikes etc and from the sound of it jabba only offer the before and after plots with the custom service.(Also, with the cost of a RR plot it seems like this is pretty much the difference too!) Advice please performance boffins!
4. Can I ask when the remaps would actually be taking place? I'm somewhat confused as to which direction to go - generic or custom . Need to get christmas out the way but then I'd like to look into doing something. Until I had my RR done on friday I was sure I wanted a custom at jabba (They were also my only consideration, despite the distance) but then the guy who ran the dyno told me custom wasn't worth it without other mods - I'm only planning for a remap and recirc valve replacement with possibly a panel filter (to keep insurance down etc) at a push but I'm a little concerned about having a generic map put in and not seeing the results on a dyno to ensure no flat spots etc (as warned on their own website!). Sorry to hijack the group buy thread but I AM interested just need a little more advice
5. You've got to love those ebay retards who can't even spell properly in their adverts
6. The guy's obviously a complete freak but how can they justify putting someone on the SOR for acts performed in private with an object that never was and never will be alive?. (What's next - blow up dolls and vibrators? ) sounds like a waste of tax payer money bringing him to court really :thumbdwn:
7. You'd really need to get a vag com lead etc and do a boost log to be sure I guess? I presume a cheapy ebay one would probably do the job for you if you didn't want to spend full whack money on a legit (although you'll obviously get better support and software with the latest official ) See my boost log here for an example of what standard is (confirmed today on a dyno too ) That would tell you for sure how much boost each car is running - if remapped then one will be significantly higher than the other! (10psi is stock!)
8. I've just had my octy vrs on the rollers today (due to an ongoing work's mickey taking of a mates astra turbo that only made 138bhp first time, then 183.1bhp after hose repairs ), at least mine was consistent over the three runs we did . Max was 181.9 flywheel with 150 ish at the wheels and about 172 lb/ft (He lost the box with all the temp info etc while editing the scaling for me to find out exactly how much it made, oh well :() Roll on remap time..................
9. Sounds highly illegal to me. I'd contact the insurance company and offer to prove you have owned and lived in the house since way before that date, and purchased it from the named individual. Next up would be a check on your credit history and the house etc.......
10. Unfortunately Phil, this is exactly the kind of thing insurance companies would use to avoid paying :thumbdwn:. you're damned whichever way really. Still can't believe a monaro (although a very potent car) would be so attractive to a thief to risk breaking in etc, understandable if it's a porsche etc.:(
11. What about the statement at the bottom of the forum then? "Views and opinions are given by the poster and do not reflect the views of BRISKODA.net nor SKODA." Does that not allow a certain amount of freedom to post things that others may not like . I find a lot of forms of censorship annoying, even simple words get blocked out on here which is surely a car forum aimed at an adult (over 17 at least) audience? If I go on various clubbing forums then all manor of language is used - I agree that you might not want the F's and C's in here but it's a fine line surely.....? Not wanting to start an argument, just stating an opinion :P
12. They'll probably find it's an anonymous lock up rented with cash and false names :thumbdwn:. I think I'd rather be waiting for them in there with a shotgun or two and some baseball bats.........
13. I find first to second is a bit "clunky", e.g I have to "feel" the way into second gently (slight left to right wiggle seems to work best, ooh er!) but other than that all the other changes are pretty good. Agree with the lag thing after changing gear at higher revs though, although I believe it's more to do with the ASR system cutting the power than actual turbo lag. Try it without asr on and you'll see what I mean - generally it lights up the tyres instead
14. So did they take keys from in the house then? I'd suggest getting a safe for any spare keys, well hidden, and always keep the other set with you at all times. (Maybe a fake "decoy set" left around to buy you some time in the worst scenario) Maybe not everyone's advice but they'd have to pry the keys from my dead fingers before I gave them up (that's if they survive the shooting..) - I'd never give into the scum easily
15. I'd ignore this and see what happens......... If the car park was not gated off (as our local stores do seem to be) and the store was closed what's the problem??? Get in touch with B&Q and possibly some local press offices - I'm sure they wouldn't want the negative publicity of a regular customer getting fined for parking there when they are not even trading (and therefore cannot claim loss of business!) sounds like just another money making scheme to me - the exact reason I carry certain "tools" in my boot. I don't knowingly park illegally so if I ever get clamped I don't think it'd stay on for long...........
16. Poor show on the top gear boys for not doing this themselves :thumbdwn:. I've read about that car before, it's built on the same industrial estate as the company that make our electrical design software - I was soooooo tempted to bunk off last time I went there for training and see if I could have a look around the factory . Simply amazing performance though
17. no, there really are people this sick in the world........:thumbdwn: SWMBO works in a vets and you wouldn't believe the stories of cruelty that she hears about :(
18. I agree - Ban them for all but organised displays on limited nights only. It's been luck fecking beirut around my way for several weeks and will continue to be so till long after christmas . I'll happily stick a firework up the rear end of anyone who thinks it's "funny" to see an animal injured, killed or distressed cos some arrogant ***** thinks it's their god given right to let off explosives whenever they like! Oh, and if that's their "free right" to do that then why can't I drive at whatever speed I like, wherever I like? Cos it's inconsiderate to others and dangerous, that's why! Rant over......
19. Ah, thanks for the replies people. I'm pretty sure the one time I crept up to 100 () was overtaking before the first camera so hopefully I'll not be needing the services of pepipoo . I did adhere to the 50 limit along the return stretch (pointless as it seemed), there were still plenty of other cars overtaking me on both directions though. Makes me really think motorways are a waste of time these days - the safest place you could happily exceed 70 and all they're interested in is flipping camera revenue . Bar stewards! Still, at least I had more fun on the A38 when I gave up at J27 on the way back
20. After much searching on here failed to get me any relevant hits , I thought I'd ask the question here in the hope that a local (jason maybe ) would be able to answer this for me. I took a trip to exeter on sunday, updated my talex before we left and set a cruise speed of gps 74 up the motorway. (God I hate driving that slow :() At one point after tiring of not passing some other traffic at a reasonable rate I put my boot down and sailed past to tuck back in and resume cruise speed - not long after this I saw the signs for the specs average zone; however the talex didn't warn me at all about this for the entire journey (both ways!) and the first camera I spotted was numbered 10. The numbers increased each camera I passed, yet on the way back (at gps 70 this time!) I noticed the numbers going back down (as expected) but again stopping at 10. So, WTF is that all about? And why no talex warning, surely they'd be listed or am I right in thinking I've read something on here before (hence the search) that they were only temporary of something :confused:? Anyone local shed some light???

Oh, and several minidiscs in the boot that get swapped around (mostly trance or hardcore live sets from various well known dj's I've light jocked with ), and a few mp3 cd-rs in the glove box for the head unit slot - currently got a couple of house music compilations on review to see if they're worth burning to cd or minidisc You could say I love my music while driving
22. I've been wondering if there's some sort of smoke and mirrors scenario going on there too :holmes: guess we'll never find out though..........
23. Well I'd say the initial move at the start by the two red's was out of order (certainly not very sporting), and the greasy team "mate" didn't help although hamilton obviously played a part in his f**k up too :( I was praying for one of the lead cars to drop out (preferably alonso!) and give him the much needed gain in points though I guess (and I'm not that good on the points system etc) that providing alonso finished equally ahead even this wouldn't have saved him as they finished equal? I laughed at Kimi's comments on how they "could've been much faster" - apart from their obvious blocking of hamilton at the start their race was pretty boring as usual........
24. Gutted he didn't make it but he put on an amazing show . Glad that **** dasterdly alonso didn't take it, can't believe they were joint second only one point behind kimi
