  1. It is a Karoq. (Not mine) He will take it to our Skoda dealer as I think he has the extended warranty which may cover it. Thanks for you help.
  2. I think the wipers work but not the washers, front or back. Are there any other related fuses somewhere?
  3. Hi. A friend of mine has a 2018 1.4 model and the windscreen washers have failed, he has checked the fuse behind the glovebox and that appears to be okay. I was hoping someone here may have a solution, or if this is a dealer repair, or something that can be done by the owner who is very practically minded.
  4. I am on holiday until early October, if your not in a rush. I regret I will be an ex-Octavia driver later this year so am fairly sure I will not need it. I have 217 credits on my Next Gen Pro Pack. I only used to code a rear view camera.
  5. I am thinking of selling my OBD11 purchased in November 2020 that came with 200 credits, I am not sure if I used one of the credits or not when I installed a Rear Camera. Anyway, are the credits attached to the unit and available to a new user, or, are they only available to the original purchaser? Couldn't find anything on the OBD website.
  6. The Kona has about the same amount of scratchy plastic as the Octy, I'd say the quality was not dissimilar, she wanted a smaller hybrid about the same size as her Fabia which has covered just 8k miles since march 18. she liked the way it drove and to be honest I thought the infotainment was much better than the Skoda one, far more intuitive and it had actual buttons for heating and fan etc . She looked at many similar cars and choose the Kona. Better value than most and a far better deal. If she's happy so am I .
  7. Am wondering whether to order a new 1.4IV or not, if it takes 8 months to arrive. My wife was also thinking of going hybrid and selling her 2018 Fabia, she was offered £10k P/X on a Hyundai Kona Hybrid, the dealer asked what colour and model she wanted: 30 seconds later she was advised that the car was already built and is confirmed for delivery in the UK in November. Hyundai do not offer pages of options, you buy the one with the options installed. Come November we will see if it does arrive as promised.
  8. I have been thinking of changing my 2015 Mk3 1.4 DSG Estate and after much thought I am nearly decided on the new 1.4 TSI iv PHEV Estate. There are a few questions I am sure a current owner could answer. I have on my mk3 MIB1 satnav, and music from a USB drive, and hands-free phone via Bluetooth. Radio I use very rarely. The configurator states ‘Skoda Connect Remote access 1 year and infotainment online 1 year'. 1 .I have a Samsung Android running #11 software. The config’ also states under radio, telephone and navigation : Bluetooth and Wireless smartlink for apple carplay only (Wired for Android Auto and mirror link) I assume by this I need to plug a cable into the phone and the car in order for the car to see the phone. And: 2. Does this mean that hands-free Bluetooth will no longer work after the 1 year, likewise no satnav after 1 year? 3. To use the online function in my Samsung when out and about I have to use ‘Mobile Data’ and on my BT deal I get 4gb of data but I have no idea of what that means in real life usage, I see many people using mobiles for Google Maps and satnav, but for how long is that possible on a 4gb deal? A 2hr, 10hr journey or what? 4. The Config’ also states a ‘Columbus satellite navigation & 10” touchscreen’ so that seems to say navigation is by satellite and so not by mobile data and not with a 4gb restriction. Clarification would be helpful! 5. Also under Radio, telephone and navigation it lists 2 x USB C ports for charging and data transfer, it that one port for charging and one for data or can both ports be used for charging or data transfer? If I have my music USB connected to one port can I connect my Android to the other port and use Google mapping? 6. I have noted there seems to be various pricing for this Connect service, from £36 to £80 a year for, err, what? The config’ is very vague and uninformative. Services may differ according to Country, car , model, year, technology, weather, mood of the car, and similar ‘get out of jail’ cards. Okay, maybe not all of those but it feels like it. Seems most services these days are now only available on subscription, just more ways of screwing more £ notes out of the user. Thank you in advance.
  9. Could not have put it better myself, totally agree. Was thinking of changing last year just as Covid caused a lockdown. Been trawling YouTube reviews ever since, Lots of cars, quite fancy a Tesla Estate but they don't make one! Or an A4 Avant or 3/5 Series or similar but the Octy 3 Elegance Estate with ACC, RVC and Park Assist is a hard car to beat, Economical, £30 road tax, etc, if I could swop the beam for IRS and add some more sound deadening to cancel out the tyre noise it would be nearly perfect.
  10. Skoda can only supply an EFB and an economy version at that. Halfords changed the serial number and then cleared a large number of light faults on the dash. Once they were cleared no problems. Oh, Skoda EFB has a 2 year warranty and Halfords has a 5 year warranty. No brainer in my view,
  11. Just had a new AGM 096 fitted instead the EFB one supplied by Skoda, fitted by Halfords at £184 fitted at dealer or £159 On its own, you fit, Skoda do NOT supply an AGM although they said they could, but they had fitted an EFB instead so I had this removed by Halfords and took it back to Skoda who then said they did not do a AGM so had fitted the standard Economy EFB. I asked if it would impact on the warranty or not. They said it would not as it was the same as changing tyres from that factory fitted. So if your dealer cannot supply an AGM cancel the order and go to Halfords! By the way Skoda dealer said the EFB Economy battery from Skoda should have been £215 fitted but they priced matched Halfords, so they price matched higher quality? battery with a lower? class of battery. Or you would pay the same but not get what you asked for. Hope that makes sense
  12. Had mine tinted from B pillar back and the rear window, didn't cost anything extra. Also advised them I had the DTUK Pedal Box installed, this was on a chat box on their website, after a little delay they came back and said it was classified as an 'interior modification' and again no extra charge. I thought this was a bit odd so I printed out the chat in case at some future date the insurer tried to dismiss a claim because of it, I had written proof they were advised and it was accepted along with the tinted windows. Your choice entirely but I would certainly do some insurance comparisons, I shaved over £500 off our house cover in one go and certainly a lot more than that on our car insurances over the years. They are not loyal to you so why be loyal to them, your cost most likely goes up a bit every year, over 15 years that could be lot. I pay under £300 a year for my octy comprehensive cover from a 5* defacto insurer with high repute. We are pensioners, wife and I to drive, cars not garaged, no points, and no claims for so long I forget. Worth a few minutes time and could save you £££'s (Martin Lewis and MSE are my gods!) Was a company buyer and my wife reckons haggling is in my DNA.....
  13. Mine is an estate as well. The biggest problem I had was getting the leads from the tailgate into the roof itself. the attached photos may help. The camera came with an jack plug, I found that a drain unblocker cable - a long spring wound rat tail - had an internal measurement that fitted perfectly over the prong on the camera connector. I then insulation taped them together so I could thread it through the rubber joint of tail gate and side of upper body. You cannot get the lead through very far into the roof space but I found if you pull it across the roof lining a little you can then thread it forward along between the roof and lining which is attached to the roof by what looks like double sided tape. You can then access this cable by gently pulling the roof lining down by the rear then front doors.
  14. Spooky, I had the same 096AGM fitted today at Halfords. Changing is quite straightforward just a spanner job. The fun came after fitting as the battery needed coding into the car, seems if not coded the car thinks it still has the old dodgy one. Oh, by the way the mobile fitting that they advertise does not include the time it is fitted which varies between £3.50 to about £15 I think in the evening. I thought about a morning fitting but that was £7.50 and as their branch was only a 10 min drive away took the car to them. Okay, the battery was fitted and coded in, the dash lit up like it was a Christmas tree, all warnings lit, chap kept pushing buttons on his coding tool and cleared a few but some still remained. Did it again and said "All sorted" I got in and saw some errors still showing, back he came and tried again, no change. Another guy comes over to help him. "Try this, clear the faults then turn the steering full lock both ways, even if some faults are still showing, then remove the key" Then I got in and started the car and no faults appeared, so off I drove. Got home still fault free. The guy said he had no idea why the steering turning lock to lock seemed to work but he had done it on other VAG cars with the same problem and it worked. I had asked my Skoda dealer to fit an AGM battery but when I checked they had fitted an Economy EFB one so that one will be going back, they had kindly matched the Halfords price of £184 fitted but fitted a lesser class of battery with only a 2 year warranty, Seems Skoda do not supply an AGM so that was why they fitted the EFB. I asked how much would the battery they had fitted would cost without the price match, £219.00 fitted was the reply! You do the sums..........
  15. Well, good news, Skoda has covered the whole turbo and actuator unit and this has now been replaced, the extended warranty has certainly saved me a fortune. I asked my dealer how much would it have cost if I just walked in and had it all replaced, he reckoned about £2300. Okay, probably a lot more than an independent or a repair/exchange unit but that would be expected, main dealers are normally the most expensive. This is one job I did not have to get price matched either. The pedal box did not make any difference I am of course very pleased to say! I emailed Skoda Customer Services last week about this, not heard anything yet.
  16. Thanks Tony, I hope you are right! I did not see how the pedal box could affect the turbo as it is not and has not and cannot increase the engines power, It is adjusting the response to pressure like having a lead foot at take off. If I remember correctly I have it on setting 1 with 2 so not too responsive, any more and I reckon my wife will rear end a bus !!
  17. I hope that the pedal box will not show up as I forgot to remove it. I installed it about 4 years ago and plain forgot about it. Oh well fingers crossed, could be an expensive week. I will let you know!! The Mother in Law at 96 passed away this Christmas Eve so we are arranging the funeral and can only have 20 present. My Brother is still in the care home with advanced dementia, and with all his other disabilities I am just awaiting the inevitable, he does not want to live any more and wanted to end it all about 5 years ago when he was diagnosed, which I understand but find it very hard to come to terms with. He cannot do anything, and I mean that literally, move or speak and suffer while the pain killers do their best. It is a truly cruel disease. A taxi account would be cheaper overall but very inconvenient, my wife and I have taken up bowling and going around the 'Shires' playing. Takes our minds off other things, of course Covid has meant a cancel of all our games last year and we hope it will change for the better in 2021. Happy new year all. EDIT. Should Skoda decide they will not cover the cost can you, or anyone else, recommend a repairer that does a proper job in the Hertfordshire area? Don't think running around in limp mode for too long will be much fun.
  18. Update. Taken the car in and they have said the last two failures they replaced the actuator unit, after doing their checks they say it now needs a complete new actuator and turbo. They have contacted Skoda who have asked for the diagnostic data (What ever that may tell them) The garage has ordered the whole lot and will fit next week, hoping/assuming that Skoda will okay the fix under the extended warranty, possible the best £184 I have spent ! For this many to go wrong in such a small number of miles (21,750) is very disquieting, if the new Mk4 1.5 is using a tweaked version of the same engine maybe it's another reason not to go there. Once it's sorted I will update again.
  19. Just a thought, but changing the wheels/tyres may mean an overall change in diameter and therefore a change in distance traveled per revolution, which could mean a change to and speed indication on the dash. I only say this as I came across this on a kit car I built where the speedo cable came from the gear box, I was doing 40 according to the dash, the kind Police officer said I was doing nearer 43 or more. He let me off when he understood what had happened but I needed to have the speedo re-calibrated. No idea where the indicated speed comes from these days with fly-by-wire and such like.
  20. Good question and I do not have a clue. From what I remember last time they said that this time they had replaced the whole unit as it had seized. By that I guess the previous time it may have the rod/linkage had seized. I do remember them saying the cost, if I had to pay it, would be around the £1k so it must have been an expensive part! Or, it took along time to do it and the labour charges account for the high cost. I will ask exactly what had failed\seized so I can report this to Skoda. The car is booked in next Tuesday for investigation and to replace the EFB battery with a new AGM Battery.
  21. I wish mine was still on its first WG, All have seized, My logic is that they seize due to lack of the right grease, I am sure the Skoda garage did use the right grease. For my part although I do not do many miles I do give the DSG a work out on a regular basis, dropping into Sport or manual and working the turbo quite hard just to make sure it does not get stuck through lack of use or minimal rev range, it gets pedal to the metal. I use a Pedal Box for gaining speed with Eco mode for the overrun slowing down. I find that a good combination for overall driving and economy. My stop/start seems to be on strike, probably due to the battery getting old, am planning to get a new battery in the next few weeks as I do not want to suddenly find it has died. Have driven for over 200 miles and it never cut in once, drove over 200 miles back and it cut in about 3 miles from home!!! The car has always been serviced on time by one Skoda dealer and anything wrong has been corrected. My thoughts on the 150 are the same as yours, a slight software update is far, far, cheaper than mechanical mods. I think I will contact Skoda and see what they have say, nothing probably, but should there be future problems I will have something on record.
  22. Hi PetrolDave. Long may your luck continue!!
  23. Well, here I am again. My Octavia has done 21,723 miles since March 2015. The first WG seize occurred within warranty, the second just over a year later, the next seized within a year of the last one. Today the car dashboard showed EPC and went into limp mode. So this will be, I think, number 5 (Inc the original one). I don't really know what to say, other than what the hell is going on and why has it not been sorted! As a matter of interest is the new 1.4 (150) just an uprated version of my 1.4 (140) with the same WG assembly? I have taken an extended warranty each year so this will again be covered but that should only cover 'unexpected' failures, this one seems to have built in failure
