  1. Mine is also 5 and next March will be 6 years old. I overheard a discussion at My local Skoda dealers that they price matched where they could. I got a quote from another local garage for the belt and politely requested Skoda dealer to price match. The local garage quoted for both belt and water pump which the Skoda dealer after much puffing about labour costs begrudgingly agreed to match it. In went my car for the work to be done. I then went to collect my car and carefully checked the invoice and the price was matched as promised. I then asked why was no water pump listed, you have matched the price but not the work as my car does not need a pump (As in Dave's post above) So I was being invoiced for parts and work that was not carried out and in any case was not needed. I asked how much to supply and fit the pump and as they had done neither, to knock that cost off my invoice, they were not happy and reported that two separate jobs were more expensive (which I fully understood, but just wanted them to squirm a bit longer) In the end we mutually agreed on a total price. I learnt a lot from my Dad, He marked anything he knew was to be replaced or serviced so he could check the job had been according to spec and if any job was not done properly there was trouble! So, I got the job done by Skoda Dealer but at a local garage price.
  2. Thank you for your constructive advice, there is a lot to take in and I am in the cautious stage of this area, I might just use the OBD11 as a last resort. I did not order a RVC with my car at the recommendation of the dealer as I had ordered Park Assist that came with front sensors for not much more than just adding front sensors, also came with headlight washers as standard I think. There is an old saying that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, how true, I have built my own PC and have delved into the registry on occasion, so far it's still running fine . I did build my own car, a JBA Falcon in the early 1990's but due to two disabled relations arriving (Long Story ) I got very little use after becoming a carer so had to sell it. It was a lot simpler to turn a Mk5 Ford Cortina into the JBA than do anything on a modern car!
  3. Hi Dave. Thanks for your advise. As I am in no hurry I will research and see what I can find. What I really need is someone who has done this already on a similar 2015 Octavia Elegance. If the OBD11 coding is only generic and not model specific then that could be real problem . However as the app can identify the cars VIN then I would have thought it should be able to identify what codes are needed. I will email them and see what they say as regards the codes I need to change, it cannot hurt, and I do not have to do it anyway if I am unsure of the outcome.
  4. HI Dave. I think you may have misinterpreted my wording. As I have not got any other way of changing any coding then OBD11 is my only option to do any coding. If I did have VCDS or any other full feature diagnostic tool then OBD11 would not be my only option. If you see what I mean. Even then I do not yet know what code changes I would need to make for these mods.
  5. Hi Dave. Thanks for the reply, the mods I would like to action are not listed in the thread: Auto fold mirrors on lock/unlock, Headlamp wash timer, F&R Sensor deactivation at lower speed. So it looks like OBD11 is my only option, it's tipping it down outside so will plug it in at the weekend and see what it can do, not by one click but by long coding. I think I will post on the OBD11 forum and see what response I get there
  6. My 2015 1.4 has had a couple of issues, one was the dash warning about leaving the car in 'P', there are many threads here that go into details of the problem, it is well known and my warranty covered what could have been an expensive repair. If you buy from a Skoda dealer ask them if this problem has been fixed. The other problem I had was the Turbo Actuator Rod seizing, in fact I am now on my 4th TAR, this one seems to be okay but for how long I wonder. Again a search on this forum will give far more details of this problem. Other that that the car has been great, no problems with the DSG box other than the above. the car is reasonably quiet, cheap to run with fair MPG and £30 tax on mine. Personally I would go with SEL or Elegance models as the added options are well worth having.
  7. Thanks Iway, I have looked at this many times, but the thread states VCDS mods and no mention of OBD11. Now I realise that coding is coding which ever method you use, however OBD11 offers one click actions for a range of mods. I have a good number of OBD11 'one click' credits at my disposal so would prefer to use them than make a mistake with my podgy fingers. Somewhere I did see a list of one click mods but forgot where, I thought it was on OBD11 website but now cannot find it.
  8. I now have the latest PRO version and managed to code in the RVC, however I am sure I found somewhere a list of what you can do with OBD11, but for the life of me cannot remember where that was! A recent thread here was asking for suggested mods which reminded me that I also wanted some, like Auto fold mirrors, Headlamp wash timer, F&R Sensor deactivation at lower speed. Not sure if these are available as One Click Codes or if I have to long code? I looked on the OBD11 Forum and OBD11 and either missed them or they did not help.
  9. I find the resolution on my RVC to be poor, I have this one from Ali Express: HD 170 Degree Fisheye Lens Car Trunk Hand Switch Rear View Camera For Audi A4 VW Touran Tiguan Tournamen Skoda Speed Octavia * Sony/MCCD 3089 imaging sensor. Camera Pixel 720P. * Support NTSC/PAL Video system. High grade of waterproofing: IP68. * High-definition and 170 degree wide viewing angle. like as fisheye. * Low-light Level Night Vision, 6m visible distance for night. * 6M RCA Video connector. Fit for Android DVD player and Any TFT Car Monitor. * The Green Wire is Parking Reference Line Switch on/off. This camera can remove the parking lines Not being much up on this subject I guess I need a higher pixel count? anyone know of a better RVC?
  10. My 2015 Excellence came with VBF but no sideboards. So I made some removable ones myself. Seems these were not available with the VBF option.
  11. Been lurking here as I am/was thinking of buying the new MK4 and at the moment reckon I will stick with my MK3 Pre FL Elegance, I do not need an 'App' to do what I want, like open or close the windows as I can at present do that with the key fob. If this app is the My Skoda App, the reviews on Play Store are extremely negative, is it the same or is Connect and My Skoda two individual apps? I am not sure I will be happy with the HVAC being on screen with no actual knobs to select what I need to do. With my MK3 I can do all I need without taking my eyes off the road for more than a split second. I would also like a 1.9 Petrol with IRS, DSG and 4WD but seems this is unlikely to hit our shores any time soon, if at all. Reading the thread of first impressions also indicates some other minor niggles. Perhaps I'd be best to wait until next year to give Skoda time to sort it out more. The dealer said only manuals are being produced but I am sure I read the DSG models are available, I cannot see Skoda only manuals until next year....
  12. Just a lucky guess. Pleased you found the problem, I have acute hearing which is great at times but a pain when I hear bongs, rattles, vibrations within the car, drives me mad until I find the reason. I was going to write source but thought better of it. My Dash-Cam bonged when it has stopped functioning, so needed to be reset, a good thing I suppose otherwise I may not have known it was no longer recording.
  13. Had a faint boing, boing, boing, in my car a while ago, could not find the cause until I disconnected it was the dashcam (Viofo) a reformat and reset did it. Boing gone.
  14. Thanks guys. Maybe it has never worked correctly since day 1! Weird though, I have driven over 20k miles and not heard a peep out of them except when parking. At least I now know it was not something I did wrong with the coding.
  15. Ohps, not engaged brain when I wrote the first line: ..........this came with Park Pilot which I reckon I have tried out twice in the 5 years,........ I should have written Park Assist. Anyone got any ideas why the front sensors now seem active?
  16. I have at long last installed a Rear View Camera in my 2015 Mk3 Elegance. this came with Park Pilot which I reckon I have tried out twice in the 5 years, In the last 5 years the front and rear sensors only activated after selecting reverse then ceased to beep until reverse was selected again. I made the required code changes with OBD11 in relation to the camera and Park Pilot (thanks Sasha😀) . All seemed okay and the camera worked well (Could do with better resolution) so off I drove. Needed to keep well left on a corner due to on comimg car, kept close the hedge and the F/NS sensor started beeping. Very odd as it had never done this without reverse being used first. It seems that somehow I have activated the sensors to activate without the need to select reverse first, tried a 60mph run down to around 20 close to the hedge and BEEP, BEEP, off it went again. I need to test it in traffic to see if this is repeated on the front center sensors but just wondered if any others having done this reverse camera install have come across this change in sensor sensing? Or can offer an explanation of what has changed?
  17. My 2015 Elegance 1.4TSI has been great except for the seizing Turbo Actuator Rod. Now on #4 and I've only covered 21k miles.
  18. Had another go at removing the A pillar trim, it did not want to release. Really bending it out I think that it was retained by what looked like a single solid grey plastic arm about 20mm deep that stuck out from the cover. Then had a re-think. I did not like the idea of the cable being the wrong side of the airbag, or maybe being in the way should it ever deploy. I removed it from the cover and the roof lining back to the B pillar. Careful pulling with my trim tools revealed that I could run the cable from the roof by the front of the B pillar cover and tuck it in tight behind same and then straight down behind the lower black trim, across the base and up behind the trim where it ends by the bonnet release and then to the area by the fuse box.
  19. Got it fitted at last, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32964908529.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.3e5b78afY3YGVA not too impressed with the picture quality, not what I'd call HD. Seems rather fuzzy and indistinct, anyone found a similar unit with higher resolution? Followed the instructions about coding in, which went okay, went for a drive yesterday and had to slow up and keep tight to the overgrown hedge on a tight corner due to oncoming car and heard the front N/S sensor beeping! My 2015 car has Park Assist so has sensors back, front and sides, but in the last 5 years only activated after reverse had been selected, now it seems activates at below certain speeds on front sensors. I will have to check this out more thoroughly to see exactly what circumstances this happens in. I was wondering if it might be caused by the additional coding: Quote: Before it will work, it will need coding. Using OBDeleven, it was in the Infotainment section, long coding, byte 19, enable bit 4. But also in Park Pilot there is a tick box for lowline camera. Unquote. Now, my wife has an 18 reg Fabia that has front sensors, the front sensors do operate at low speeds as we found out in traffic and on normal two lanes they sometimes beeped at oncoming cars.
  20. Check twice and connect once as they say. I have ordered a video female connector that comes with the blue plug from eBay, I have extracted the connectors from same blue plug as I did not fancy trying to solder those tiny push in contacts. I have not cut off the yellow video connector from the camera so hopefully it will now be plug and play! Just to make sure I have this right the center male pin on the yellow video connector is positive and the outer shoulder negative? Checking on my ohm meter the center socket has a red lead going to the tiny connector, the other lead is white so must be negative.
  21. Hi. Welcome to the forum. I am sure you will get all the help you need, As regards the above I am finding my way around with the reversing camera lark, I am not sure but I think the wiring in your photo is for the Highline model whereas the more common model is the Lowline version (as is mine). If you look through Sasha's thread there is a mine of information, just takes a lot of reading! The camera I have is this one from AliExpress. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32964908529.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.3e5b78afY3YGVA
  22. A Mallet might bust it, but gentle persuasion made no impression. Its a 2015 model but I do have a Skoda all component warranty, no idea if this would be covered though, I will send the photo to my dealer and ask if it is covered or if they have a Skoda Mallet!
  23. Got the cable through to the front, tight to the edge of the roof lining, I have at the moment led the cable between the front door seal and tucked into the A pillar cover, it started to rain so will have to remove the A cover later to do a proper job later. The seller of the blue plug connector said it would not fit a Skoda Octavia, it looks identical to the plug in this thread. I think that the original connector pins can be removed so I could swap them to the new connector, I have left the Video plug on my cable so could just plug it into the video connector attached to the new blue connector as above....If you understand what the hell I am talking about!
  24. Hi. Noticed today that the raised warning tag on passenger seat back was showing, on closer inspection I found the surrounding plastic trim had pulled away from the seat. Tried to put it back but seems stuck. The mechanism still functions as does the release from the load space. Any suggestions as to how to fix it, seems a bit OTT to have to book it in the dealers.
  25. Anyone? Before I make a pigs ear of something!
