  1. Thanks Tony, I hope you are right! I did not see how the pedal box could affect the turbo as it is not and has not and cannot increase the engines power, It is adjusting the response to pressure like having a lead foot at take off. If I remember correctly I have it on setting 1 with 2 so not too responsive, any more and I reckon my wife will rear end a bus !!
  2. I hope that the pedal box will not show up as I forgot to remove it. I installed it about 4 years ago and plain forgot about it. Oh well fingers crossed, could be an expensive week. I will let you know!! The Mother in Law at 96 passed away this Christmas Eve so we are arranging the funeral and can only have 20 present. My Brother is still in the care home with advanced dementia, and with all his other disabilities I am just awaiting the inevitable, he does not want to live any more and wanted to end it all about 5 years ago when he was diagnosed, which I understand but find it very hard to come to terms with. He cannot do anything, and I mean that literally, move or speak and suffer while the pain killers do their best. It is a truly cruel disease. A taxi account would be cheaper overall but very inconvenient, my wife and I have taken up bowling and going around the 'Shires' playing. Takes our minds off other things, of course Covid has meant a cancel of all our games last year and we hope it will change for the better in 2021. Happy new year all. EDIT. Should Skoda decide they will not cover the cost can you, or anyone else, recommend a repairer that does a proper job in the Hertfordshire area? Don't think running around in limp mode for too long will be much fun.
  3. Update. Taken the car in and they have said the last two failures they replaced the actuator unit, after doing their checks they say it now needs a complete new actuator and turbo. They have contacted Skoda who have asked for the diagnostic data (What ever that may tell them) The garage has ordered the whole lot and will fit next week, hoping/assuming that Skoda will okay the fix under the extended warranty, possible the best £184 I have spent ! For this many to go wrong in such a small number of miles (21,750) is very disquieting, if the new Mk4 1.5 is using a tweaked version of the same engine maybe it's another reason not to go there. Once it's sorted I will update again.
  4. Just a thought, but changing the wheels/tyres may mean an overall change in diameter and therefore a change in distance traveled per revolution, which could mean a change to and speed indication on the dash. I only say this as I came across this on a kit car I built where the speedo cable came from the gear box, I was doing 40 according to the dash, the kind Police officer said I was doing nearer 43 or more. He let me off when he understood what had happened but I needed to have the speedo re-calibrated. No idea where the indicated speed comes from these days with fly-by-wire and such like.
  5. Good question and I do not have a clue. From what I remember last time they said that this time they had replaced the whole unit as it had seized. By that I guess the previous time it may have the rod/linkage had seized. I do remember them saying the cost, if I had to pay it, would be around the £1k so it must have been an expensive part! Or, it took along time to do it and the labour charges account for the high cost. I will ask exactly what had failed\seized so I can report this to Skoda. The car is booked in next Tuesday for investigation and to replace the EFB battery with a new AGM Battery.
  6. I wish mine was still on its first WG, All have seized, My logic is that they seize due to lack of the right grease, I am sure the Skoda garage did use the right grease. For my part although I do not do many miles I do give the DSG a work out on a regular basis, dropping into Sport or manual and working the turbo quite hard just to make sure it does not get stuck through lack of use or minimal rev range, it gets pedal to the metal. I use a Pedal Box for gaining speed with Eco mode for the overrun slowing down. I find that a good combination for overall driving and economy. My stop/start seems to be on strike, probably due to the battery getting old, am planning to get a new battery in the next few weeks as I do not want to suddenly find it has died. Have driven for over 200 miles and it never cut in once, drove over 200 miles back and it cut in about 3 miles from home!!! The car has always been serviced on time by one Skoda dealer and anything wrong has been corrected. My thoughts on the 150 are the same as yours, a slight software update is far, far, cheaper than mechanical mods. I think I will contact Skoda and see what they have say, nothing probably, but should there be future problems I will have something on record.
  7. Hi PetrolDave. Long may your luck continue!!
  8. Well, here I am again. My Octavia has done 21,723 miles since March 2015. The first WG seize occurred within warranty, the second just over a year later, the next seized within a year of the last one. Today the car dashboard showed EPC and went into limp mode. So this will be, I think, number 5 (Inc the original one). I don't really know what to say, other than what the hell is going on and why has it not been sorted! As a matter of interest is the new 1.4 (150) just an uprated version of my 1.4 (140) with the same WG assembly? I have taken an extended warranty each year so this will again be covered but that should only cover 'unexpected' failures, this one seems to have built in failure
  9. Quite agree PetrolDave, certainly does not state a genuine Skoda card is needed. I thought perhaps Skoda had removed the requirement but seems not! Should have known better........
  10. This thread reminded me to check for a new mapping, so entered my VIN and this came up. Simply states an SD card of 6GB not even the genuine Skoda card,. The 'Steps' do mention a Skoda card. I assume the 6GB is in it's zipped state,
  11. Probably suspension bushes, or, get a cat?
  12. 10/10. If I was wearing one I would take my hat off to you. Either a brave man or the road noise was just too much! Let us know how you get on and if it makes a significant difference. The more pic's the better. Might save me buying a new car!!
  13. erWin might help. https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do You can find and print exploded diagrams of your car. I used them when trying to fit a rear camera and cables through the tailgate to the screen. I think you may need to remove the rear seat uprights and possibly the seat base as well. They do charge for time so you would need to identify which sheets you needed as soon as possible. I think I paid about £7 for 45 minutes which was plenty of time to find what I needed. Eventually I went through the roof lining as this was by far the easiest route, The rear side panels, seat backs and base, boot seat drop down links, and such like was some job. Good Luck!
  14. . Just realised where I have screwed up, I have the VW App not the Skoda app No wonder it didn't like my VIN. As the Skoda is part of the VW Group ! Time to uninstall and start again me thinks......!!
  15. Thanks Gerrycan. More food for thought.
  16. Hardly a great loss in terms of dosh, but I read in this forum that the VW dataplug worked on our Skoda Mk3's. I've got the plug, downloaded the app, entered all the required details, created the account and got up to entering my VIN number at which point it was not recognized. Do the VW plugs work in Mk3's or is there something I have missed?
  17. Reckon your right threadbear. The more I look at alternatives the more I appreciate the Mk3, have looked at the Focus Active but this now seems to only have the 999cc ecoboost with 125ps, the new listing no longer shows the 1.5 petrol. I do not want a diesel due to low mileage and previous problems with DPF.
  18. Just specced a 1.4 TSI iV 204 PS DSG PHEV. Estate OMG. Came out at £39,271 Ticked too many boxes I guess, Annoying when to have 'A' you have to add B. C & D at great extra cost of course. Anyway, it states fuel tank contains 39.5L (or 8.688 Gallons). so that gives a range of around 300 miles give or take. My 1.4 140 does around 35-40mpg. The EV bit can travel up to 37miles so say 340 miles to empty both tank and batteries. BUT according to the 'combined Consumption' it gives 268.9mpg. Call me a skeptic but really? I suppose if you did about 8 trips of 37 miles on 8 days on Electric then one trip on petrol this is possible, repeat and repeat.... I guess this is the new way of getting fantastic mpg figures based on fictitious scenarios? And to get an EV grant you have to have a car capable of 70+miles per charge. So no savings there, My 140 states 0-62 = 8.6s The 204 0-62 = 7.8 so 0.8s faster. Has a larger turning circle and is of course heavier. has a smaller load area, 490/1555L against the Mk3 of 610/1740L Food for thought.
  19. I have been using YouTube car reviews, mostly trying to find a replacement for the Octavia, I looked at a CarWow review of the A3 and I think it was mentioned by Matt that Audi seemed to have woken up and had dials you could twiddle! or something like that, I have seen so many I'm no longer sure which I've seen and which I haven't ! Still haven't found anything that is much better overall than the Octavia I have now. Looked at C200, 3 series, 508SW, Focus Estate and Active, VAG group with the horrible info, Toyota with the wind up CVT box. Maybe they'll be bringing back the DAF Reckon I need a 2019 L&K Octavia Estate.........
  20. Was checking the Skoda website this afternoon and the PHEV Octy was not shown, you must have a dealer whose on the ball. The only thing stopping me ordering is is no price list of models and options, plus that new infotainment still looks like an accident in the making.
  21. Just an idea. A while ago I set my route up but new the first part and only needed guidance in the destination area. I got fed up with the spoken directions that came over the music so I muted the spoken guidance buy pushing (not rolling) the volume roller button on the steering wheel while the guidance was active so leaving just the music playing. I am trying to remember how I got the guidance back again, without much success so far. But I think it was either pushing the button while still in the Active guidance Screen or one of the options in NAV. Probably more luck than knowledge! Anyway you may have just muted the guidance. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.
  22. Thanks for your thoughts, I like my Mk3, its easy to live with, not over technical and does what I need. As regards getting the passenger to make changes, my wife's logic is if she shuts her eyes and keeps pressing the digital buttons it will be fine I gave up on voice control soon after purchase in 2015, drove me up the wall!! I reckon I will stick with the Mk3 and look around for a late Mk3 L&K model. I guess I will get a call from the dealer early next year when more Mk4 models are available with DSG and hopefully the glitches will be sorted out by then. Wise words......
  23. I'm still pondering what to do, go for Mk4 or stay with my Mk3. I have had a few minutes playing with the new Mk4 infotainment system and it is not, in my opinion, very intuitive or user friendly, Dashboards these days seem to have gone from a multitude of tiny knobs and buttons to modern all singing and dancing electronics. I suppose this is called 'progress'. My wife is always complaining about being too hot or too cold or where the air is coming from as it too much of a gale. At the dealers I asked the sales exec to show me how to adjust the infotainment screen brightness as for example I am driving home on the M25 in usual heavy traffic, it's getting dark and screen is now too bright and I need to tone it down a bit. He pushed and swiped then swiped some more, delved into different menus, I have no idea where he was going and I am sure he did not either. After about 40 seconds he found where to alter the brightness. In that 40 seconds I hate to think what may have occurred on the M25 as he did not take his eyes off the info screen once. So what do you think of this system? Easy to get to grips with, intuitive? I understand the new Audi A3 has gone back to buttons for some of the functions, mostly with the Heating Venting and AC controls.
  24. I Should have posted in this thread as more appropriate so have copied it across. I've been thinking of changing my Mk3 1.4 Octy with only 21k on the clock for an L&K but so far not found one I liked, and I do not like the wheels on the vRS, my wife says they are horrible. Anyway, I came across this today: https://usedcars.skoda.co.uk/en/used-cars/skoda/superb/20-tsi-190ps-dsg-laurin-klement-hmcfj5a No idea which DSG box this has, dry or wet clutch? So what do you owners think of this one? Looks good to me but........ Anything to look out for? Not sure if price is fair? States Cruise Control but I would think this is Adaptive CC, am waiting for a reply from the dealer, also would insist on a spare wheel not a can of squirt!
