  1. Some may know there's a Celebration flight taking place with up to 40 planes or maybe more starting from Goodwood at Midday. many of the planes are flying on to other airfields in small groups so many living in the South have the chance to see them This link gives the proposed routes & if you use the tabs at the top theres a lot more info http://www.battleofb...k/#!routes/c1px Obviously these are old planes so all will be weather dependant & subject to change & if you miss it there's a programme about it on Tuesday night, Channel 4 at 9
  2. Initial reports say parts of the Engine came out of the Engine casing which isn't meant to happen, all debris should be contained so some serious questions will be asked Crews only deploy escape chutes if there's an impending risk so if they do get out fast, they know whats happening, you don't and bear in mind they have to leave last so if you delay you are risking their lives One other tip, if you are ever trapped in a plane in the ensuing panic the Isle will be blocked, best way out is over the seats close to the window
  3. Audi A8 4.2 Quatro You should get a nice one for 5K
  4. Interesting comparison, residuals on the Scout may be better as well Ive got an "old Scout" ( 10 plate ) & it handled a lot better with a set of Toyos on it so might be worth thinking about some more road " fun" biased rubber when yours need replacing Once I got used to the lean angle its pretty quick & very predictable Did anyone mention a remap
  5. The initial report is to look for anything obvious so that any areas considered at risk can be addressed on planes still flying, identify potential issues to check or change procedures, nothing obvious was found but I believe all hunters are grounded & displays restricted just in case Until we have the final report we wont know & that will be many months Again everyone is looking to place blame so at the moment the poor pilot is becoming the media / internet scapegoat. If & if it was a pilot error he has to live with it, that's punishment enough without any other injuries he may have but the blood lawyers will drive it to have someone to sue Airshows are dangerous, motor racing is dangerous, falling off a chair is dangerous ( probably kills more than at air shows) Lifes dangerous, accidents happen There have been some stunning displays at air shows which if they went wrong would have been a monumental disaster but they didn't & are now legendary Would you trust a very low pass over a stand in a spitfire,. I was lucky enough to see this in 98 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnc78LW7V1U Pilot was 70 years old as well, today I doubt he would even be allowed to display, life is becoming so risk averse and sanitised
  6. I had issues on a tuned car, fine when running Shell V Power but when I put a couple of Tanks of Tescos finest in the car it ran erratically & I got pants MPG, back to shell & it was fine. Momentum uses more chemicals to raise the octane on a low quality base fuel so needs more fuel to detonate, ( cheaper to make ) gives good power on full chat but is wasteful at lower load, hence the lower mpg & erratic running on "some" tuned & performance cars. If it was a plug & play map then it may not suit the fuel you use as others have hinted at but Im sure you will have discussed this with Shark. . If you switch fuel it takes a couple of tanks to see a difference, or it may be that disconnecting the cars battery for an hour may clear the cars memory but I'm only guessing on that as I know it clears some records BUT MAKE SURE you have the radio code if needed to reset the radio before you do it If the car was genuinely fine before the map & is now pants the only thing that's changed is the map so somewhere with that either the maps wrong ( Shark are usually good so I doubt that ) or the change in parameters has highlighted an issue with the car. Best to work with Shark as I know they have a good reputation & will want to see you sorted or if they cant find the issue put it back to std & wait for the issues to develop. All us Keyboard warriors do is often give scraps of info without knowing the full story & that can confuse If it hasn't been on a rolling road that would be one way of hi lighting the issue as parameters can be checked easily under load, much safer than live mapping & data logging on the road . In my opinion always the best way to map a car as it can be logged stock before mapping to look for issues but it costs more and these days its price most look at. I would agree on a new std car plug & play maps OK as everything should work but as a car gets older or bits are modified the base point changes. Im guessing Sharks map will be for a non modded car or within parameters so taking bits off like the N75 & fiddling with it probably wont help but anything you do / have done make sure they know as they will have a better idea of the effects than most of us Best of luck & Im sure Shark will solve it for you but be prepared to fork out if anything else is broken or tired.
  7. Oil South Pound Up China Lost its way & with no one really steering it Assad still in Syria ( Russia Like, US Doesn't) Heavy sanctions against Russia but if a bad winter & we need their energy so we will pay for it Anyone mention Obama wanting to do something in his last year EU in total non unity due to Greece uncertainty still & migrant free for all Uk would vote out if vote soon I think Cameron only around for a couple more years then another bit of uncertainty ISIS out of control & nobody knows what to do Underlying inflation in UK masked by strong pound making imports cheaper so at some point it will appear & possibly rise quickly And that lot is probably just scratching the surface The one who reads that lot right will be a rich man. ( read lucky)
  8. Get the car with light load on the throttle & droning & then dip the clutch, if it continues its probably tyres / wheel bearings as they are the only things still turning at the same revs with similar load, the rear diff is still turning at the same revs but as its no longer under load the noise will go away, when my diff went it was noticeable that the noise was coming from the rear of the car & disappeared when you dipped the clutch, dealer diagnosed prob a diff on the test drive & proved to be the case BUT they rarely fail. If you suspect the diff after changing the tyres I would try an oil & filter change before shelling out for a diff & as they fail so rarely there will be s/hand ones around for not a lot Ive had similar on another Skoda & that was caused by the inside of the rear tyres deforming so it looked like a threpenny bit on the inside, I think Saw Toothed is the name used but Ive never heard of those problems on a 4x4 When changing the tyres look for any uneven wear & also ask the tyre fitters to check wheels aren't buckled when they balance the wheels, its an easy visual check if you watch the inside of the wheel when balancing it. I had a drone on my Mk1 4x4 & that was a buckled after market wheel but std wheels are very strong sop you need to go something to buckle one.
  9. Is it at the same revs in each gear or is that just the revs in top ?? If you dip the clutch does it go away ??
  10. Using borrowed money, Chinas national debt is huge. Im guessing as usual the banks of the world will print more money & the system will stagger on
  11. Today China reduced its interest rates but also reduced the amount of reserves banks have to hold. When the economy is struggling & many wont be able to repay their debts why weaken the banks ability to stand losses, yes it puts more money on the street but if it doesn't work it leaves the banks more exposed. It feels Chinas embracing of capitalism albeit Government controlled has ben " a bit of a **** up" as has the wests inability to read the writing on the wall Why anybody with any sense believed Chinese double digit growth on borrowed money was sustainable beggars belief, yet growth predictions for China next year is 6%, agreed a prediction but UK would be happy with half of that. The whole financial system is now a world wide mess & the wheels are falling off of it. sadly its those at the bottom who always get the biggest kicking & there are rather a lot of those so the logical outcome is more unrest in the populous & as its a world wide mess it could potentially be catastrophic. Bigger brains than ours cant decide what's happened , all we can do is keep personal debt low & wait for next weeks financial panic A few months ago someone suggested a realignment of many things at the End of August & possibly over the Aug bank holiday when trading is lighter, maybe their crystal ball was working
  12. Map will give the same power on both if the mapper knows what he is doing, re what they claim, a claim is just that Re the 4x4 it runs shorter ratios so will accelerate quicker & with 4WD will grip, not spin. If you are running 300 bhp or more you are going to hit the limiter in top easily ( you will also need a brake & suspension upgrade ) !!!! VRS gearbox internals ( cogs) will fit in the 4x4 box if you want to up the ratios after tuning, VRS internals take the top speed up but aren't that strong, ( again from experience. ) If you are going much over 300 bhp & intend to use all those horsies the TT 6 speed box with a drive shaft change & prop mod fits,
  13. Will you own the car at the end, if yes look at risiduals, Yeti Im guessing may stack up better, Superbs have a reputation for poohing money away , even big cars from prestige brands are now a dodgy investment Superb I would guess is a better drive as its a road focussed car, Yeti is a 4x4 with a road bias Other thoughts Octavia Scout, We have a scout & friend has a Yeti, Scout just seems more practical as you can get a lot in before you fold down the seats. Re Disco Kit, is a cheap trailer out of the question then that side is covered. ( also a good place to put the kids if they are being horrors) Forgot - Welcome back
  14. Re driving standards. I've been during since the early 70's and can categorically say IMHO driving standards are a lot worse , personally I feel some of this is down to cars getting easier to drive and safer. I cut my teeth on motorcycles and old fords will solid rear axles and cart springs and they would fall off the road at very low speeds and to push on you needed some basic talent and to be honest looking back a youthful lack of fear. Cars now have loads of driver aids, even something as simple as abs and traction control are godsends . Most people who crash seem to survive or have less injurys . I started on a bike and didn't need a skid lid , the car had no seat belts, but I leart errors hurt
  15. Chilled I am Agreed no war, life's toooo short
  16. I wish I had time to type so much. I was just giving a heads up, not trying to start another keyboard war. People make what they want if it !
  17. Agreed , just advising to keep a keener look out, seen a few very sneaky speed traps recently in Hampshire and they will all be out , with this campaign I doubt there will be any lee way so a few mph over equals points as they need statistics to look good. ( and the government needs the money. I'm assuming you can say hand on heart you have never broken a speed limit, !!
  18. Tipsol anti speed campaign to run 17-23 August, same as the April one which netted a lot of drivers . Part of the pan European anti speed campaign. Different forces appear to be targeting different days so check the web fir your local plod, Hampshire is Monday , Cambridgeshire. http://m.cambridge-news.co.uk/Police-Cambridgeshire-stage-speeding-crackdown/story-27608412-detail/story.html Please post on any forum you frequent.
  19. Worked for 24 hours now clutch back on the floor so bite the bullet & get slave sorted & throw in clutch whilst its out
  20. B16 TOP on a Roller yesterday, guess meant to read BIG TOP
  21. saw an old 4x4 some months ago, Reg was 14 GOT spaced as 1 4 GOT
  22. Decided to take a chance on a new master, bleed & fluid. If that doesent work its slave & new clutch whilst its out ( & I guess flywheel )
  23. Looking for a little helpful advice Cars a 10 Plate 2.0 diesel Octy 4x4 although I believe the clutch is similar / the same in any other diesels of a similar age, cars done 115000 miles The car isn't used a lot often spending days standing & recently the clutch bite point has been just off the floor but , there's no judder or slippage Ive assumed its a hydraulic issue as it did get a bit better if you pumped the pedal. Ive also had a few occasions when the pedals stayed about 1/2 way down & Ive had to pop my toe under it to pull it back up. The slave cylinder is inside the housing so I had decided at 115000 pull out the box, fit new slave , clutch & probably flywheel & a master whilst its out but its a hefty bill. Im wondering if the knowledge base here may have any other ideas & could it be the master cylinder. Im not heavy on clutches, my old Octy went to a friend & despite being mapped is now well over 200K on the original clutch ( 160 K by me ) so odds are it wont actually need a clutch for a while The strangest thing is yesterday after a trip to get the MOT the bite point came up to near normal Any thoughts , ideas welcome
  24. Prooving you never touched it will be the hard thing Agreed Helicoil was the answer, dealer should have offered that. Ive had the same on a Nissan & that's what was done, Independent tuning shop & they did if FOC, comment was we found the thread was damaged so we helicoiled it for you & they weren't the only people who had worked on the car.
