  1. Autoexpress have just done their annual Winter tyre test and included their best All Season tyre - Continental AllSeasonContact so they could be worth considering instead of the Michelin which were last years technology
  2. While modern miniature electronics are generally reliable they can partially fail and cause all sorts of odd issues, better to replace a plug in charger than have the car ripped apart to change an inbuilt charger.
  3. They also use standard Skoda (VAG) wheel bolts and have standard Octavia (VAG) centres so fit perfectly.
  4. Did the car leak driving cross the Irish Sea? - seriously though have you plugged anything into the Ciggy Socket as this is live even when switched off and can drain the battery
  5. I went from a Mk2 Octy TDI to a MK7 Golf GTipp DSG and loved the difference in power and comfort but very quickly regretted not going for the MK7 R so I took the hit and traded for a new DSG R and have never looked back. The R feels more planted than the GTi and grips far better - no more front axle tramp - just goes, its a mini super car, the GTi might be quicker when driven by a professional driver but for most of us the R just monsters it - I took both cars round Bedford in similar conditions and I was 15 second a lap faster in the R. On the road the extra grip and performance of the 4wd system gives a security and confidence you will never get from FWD motor. Surprisingly low insurance - less than the Octy - but much lower MPG, if MPG is an issue the GTi will do 5+ more mpg on average. Lastly suggest you go for an R with DCC and upgraded Audio and be prepared to never stop smiling.
  6. Skotchguard it as soon as you take delivery - great stuff and came out top in Autoexpress upholstery protectors. Stains do not soak in and simply wipe off even ground in chocolate
  7. Indys are normally quite happy to remove the pump and clean the filter - just needs flushing off or use a soft brush, they will have their methods. No fault codes and no need to removed the battery, just leave the car ignition turned off for 5 mins before disconnect. DIY instructions in links, most do not change the rubber seals or bolts but there is a 'service kit' available - all details in my link. Depending on miles done I would get it cleaned every couple of years, mine was filthy after just 7k miles and with no launches to stress the Haldex.
  8. Have a look at this thread on the Golf R forum. Having the Haldex oil changed does not normally include cleaning the filter and it is the build up on the filter that kills the pump or Haldex. I had my Haldex oil changed and the pump removed to clean the filter at 7k miles by an independant and it was amongst the dirtiest. If Skoda dealers are like VW dealers they say the filter does not need cleaning and will not removed the pump to do so - there is no separate filter on the R and I would assume the same on the Octy as it is screwed to the pump itself. VW seem to prefer to wait till either the pump fails or the Haldex packs up - normally outside warranty so will cost you a fortune. https://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/24283-and-the-filthiest-haldex-filter-award-goes-to/?tab=comments#comment-388396
  9. Best option is to fit a Pedal Box - little electronic unit that is installed between the throttle pedal and the ECU, is simple to fit and there are often units for sale from people who have had a full remap or are selling their car on. https://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/products-overview/?key=DTUK+Pedal+Box+Plus
  10. SOLD I no longer need these so grab a bargain before winter sets in. 4 genuine Borbet (German make who make wheels for the VAG group) wheels with quality Goodyear Ultragrip M&S winter tyres, 225/45/R17 91H These 17inch wheels easily fit over the 340mm brakes on my R so will fit all vehicles with these discs or smaller. They also give a very comfy ride. One tyre has had a professional repair for a screw through the tread – centre of the tread so an easy and legal repair. Tyres only covered 4734 miles and still have 6.5/7mm across the whole tyre. The wheels have very minor marks and no curbing. They are straight true and balanced. Wheels are 5x112, 57.1 bore, ET40 and use the original OEM bolts. You can still buy this combination from mrwinter wheels. https://www.mrwinterwheels.co.uk/17-vw-golf-vii-mark-7-alloy-winter-wheels.html I am only asking £380 collected from NN29 – thats half the current price.

  12. Yesterday I have a 'Park Assist Error' come up indicating a problem with the front sensors on my R - am hoping that this might still be relevant to Octy owners and that some knowledgeable person can help identify the problem, the scan:- Chassis Type: AU-VW37 (5Q0) Scan: 01 02 03 08 09 10 13 14 15 16 17 19 22 42 44 47 52 55 5F A9 VIN: WVW Mileage: 12293km-7638miles 01-Engine -- Status: OK 0000 02-Auto Trans -- Status: OK 0000 03-ABS Brakes -- Status: OK 0000 08-Auto HVAC -- Status: OK 0000 09-Cent. Borne Sound -- Status: OK 0000 I have looked on the Ross Tech site and can find no info to help. I am hoping that the code might indicate which sensor has failed. The radar cruise still works as do the rear camera and sensors. Any help/guidance would be appreciated
  13. Ah, I forgot you have a proper handbrake don't you, the system works differently on a Golf with an electronic HB, I have to press the throttle before the engine restarts.
  14. When stationary using Stop Start you must just caress the throttle to get an restart and then apply the throttle very slowly and smoothly if you push the throttle to far the instant you restart the engine will try to accelerate hard and this will cause a lurch when changing from 1st to 2nd whether you are in auto or manual, you are simply overloading the drive chain and need to moderate your technique. You would get the same issue with SS disabled if you applied too much throttle from the off, the change from 1st to 2nd can be quite a jolt, this is a 'feature' of the DSG and you just have to modify your driving style to get the best from the box.
  15. I am guessing that if you do not have an actual fault the dealer will simply say normal for age and refuse to do anything. There is no way they will return the car to as-new or change parts just because there may have been issues with a small number of cars. If you bought from a Skoda dealer did you not get a 12 month warranty? If you bough privately and are concerned about the future then take out an extended warranty.
  16. A search on Ebay for 'Golf space saver' will though up a lot of kits and part kits from £50 and they have the same stud pattern as the VRS.
  17. Can you not press the remote lock button twice to turn off the interior protection while leaving the doors locked.
  18. Does just this on my R - would not now buy a motor without it.
