** Days Until Christmas, ** Part Seven.
CapstanPlug replied to Auric Goldfinger's topic in Off Topic Chat
@mac11irl that’s such an iconic engine here in EI - gave me goosebumps just seeing the pic. And particularly in that livery ... the “caked-on dirt “ version! Can still hear the engine “spool up” before pulling out of Heuston (Kingsbridge!) ! -

Off topic .. but (!) ... @Auric Goldfinger What's that on the buffers on the Class 67, AG ? Looks like someone smeared polyfilla over them !!! -
Yep -- that reg - registered in Cork and 1989 is its first Reg date anywhere ( i.e. if it lived somewhere else before imported to Ireland ). But a low number like 1929, suggests it was a registered new in 1989 ! Cartell.ie says it's got Ford underpinnings with a 2.5litre engine. It's kind of a re-bodied Transit. So, instead of Fake News, this is a Fake Old ! Oh - it's an Asquith ... here you go https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asquith_(1981_automobile) p.s. It does look RHD, though.

Smartlink introduced June 2015 for Bolero and Amundsen. May need to get it activated at dealer if not already activated. Not available at all on Swing or Blues radios.

Rotten Egg Smell on Motorway
CapstanPlug replied to Skodaph1boy's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk III (2014-2021)
Check there's no petrol Volvos ahead of you !!! While a few other cars' CATs do the smelly Sulphur thing, Volvo always seemed to be the worst for some reason. Not as prevalent recently -- but noticed it the other day .. and sure enough, there was a small Volvo .. V40 maybe, two cars ahead ! -
Umm... I'm guessing that @Bowlingman doesn't need to do all of that resetting ?? Have you pressed the Right-most button on the Steering wheel ? The one that brings up options like "Driving Data", Vehicle Info, Telephone, etc.. The Scroll Wheel beside that button will move between the different options .. think it's the "Audio" screen you want to highlight. Select it by clicking down on the Scroll wheel itself .. or just leave it for a few seconds (10?) and it'll select itself. Then, once Radio is selected on the Bolero unit, the centre screen shows the station list you want. ( If you're on Media on the Bolero, the centre screen will show Track titles etc.. )

Fabia III owners handbook link
CapstanPlug replied to The Plumber's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk III (2014-2021)
Yep - it's weird how just the very first link above for 2014 version still works (@The Plumber) ! Anyway - here's the updated link for Fabia : http://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Model/Fabia_NJ Pick your car's production year and away you go ! -
The OPs car, like Joe Peddos' car, is a pre-week-22, 2015 build. They had Mirrorlink only. So, no Android Auto, or Apple Carplay. If you look back at posts about this, in 2015, there was a lot of angry owners then. Some managed to do a deal for a Kenwood unit to go behind the Bolero, to give Nav. (Just nav, no phone connectivity). Others (like @JoePeddos above) found a phone to work with Mirrorlink. They sorted it with Smartlink (AndroidAuto & Apple CarPlay) for the MY16 cars at build week 22. My car was build week 23 - I would have ordered if I knew it was sorted. Anyhow, it looks like VW went with Mirrorlink too quickly - and the Mirrorlink people did promise, as I recall, to debug the system. They didn't. Be interested to see how your dealer responds @cribbs. Hope they have a sympathetic ear. Maybe offer you a later car?

Double DIN fascia for aftermarket head unit?
CapstanPlug replied to DarkFoxDK's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk III (2014-2021)
That’s the Swing unit, not a Bolero ( Bolero has 4 buttons each side of a larger screen) . Otherwise, I’ve no wisdom for you regarding different heads. Apart from the Chinese Android units, there is an Alpina unit I’ve heard mentioned. No more details, sorry. Do a search too, over on Octavia 3 section and the ICE section. Do post your researches! All best.- 1 reply

Hmmm .. are these “electricians “ in 1936 ? And are they the kind that are inclined to create work for themselves ? I’m outta here

When you say "lamps" - do you mean bulbs ? So, is it correct to read the above as - to change the bulbs, you removed bumper and headlight units ? If that is the case - it is indeed possible ( a bit difficult alright, especially the first time ), to change the bulbs whilst leaving the Headlamp units in situ. There's a few threads on here about this .. but, is that what you mean?

Battery ( might as well stay in New York !! )

It does take a long time to do its initial read - and will spend some time, seemingly stuck, at a particular “percentage “. Just leave it churn away, and read a book! How long have you given it? I’ll time mine tomorrow if you’d like a comparison.
