  1. Last week we received a Skoda UK letter for a safety recall due to a possible miss placed heat shield in the engine compartment. Some Superbs have suffered melted brake fluid reservoirs that hat then resulted in fires. Could this be the plastic engine cover. Anyone able to shed light on this.
  2. The car is 3.5 years old and original battery.
  3. Looking very tidy, hard to believe its such low miles.
  4. Last Saturday on starting the car( after 7 days not being used) it seemed sluggish also had a sensation of clutch slip. Then I noticed an amber lit wording -EPC with an amber car outline with a dial and exclamation symbol. Took it to my independent garage who said it had 3 fault codes which I can only remember being low fuel rail pressure well something like that. He stored the codes then cleared them, I took it for a 4 mile drive with no warning messages showing and car driving as normal, returning to garage. The mechanic said it might have been the fuel filter slight blockage (original one from new) he recommended changing it in the near future. Car ran perfect on a 3o mile round trip back home. And has run fine since. Anyone had similar issues.
  5. I used to be as a teenager, that was almost before time began.
  6. Just to add a strange twist to the tyre wear , I can confirm that the two front tyres are wearing on the outside edge not the inside edge, there is about 4 mm of tread across the tyres but the outer edge is feathering . The mot tester got the inside/ outside mixed up somehow. I will get the car tracking checked asap. Martin
  7. Full service at Skoda, yes I check stuff, planning to keep it for a long time but not sure now, old Volvo was a lot less trouble than this.
  8. At 18,558 miles our Superb had it's first mot, rather disappointing to find that it has four advisories, 1, unable to inspect various underside components due to undershields. 2nears side front tyre worn close to legal limit /worn on edge the inner edge is slightly worn.3, same for offside tyre. 4, front brake disc worn ,pitted or scored but not seriously weakened slightly corroded on the inner faces. It does stand outside but we have never encountered such issues on previous new/ almost new vehicles. Are the brake disc's made of aluminium nowadays. Does anyone think the tyre wear is excessive at this mileage / age (Bridgestone Potenza S001) I wonder if the tracking / camber is out. Martin.
  9. Can anyone advise if my digital dash oil temperature is working ok, the thing is I have never noticed how it has displayed before. Wife took these pics yesterday, it looks strange to me with a red part at the left side of the bar then a grey shaded section followed by the red and a temperature read out. Cruising on motorway, then 'A' road. Thanks
  10. Our Superb is due a service this month, 190 hp td 4x4 dsg,it is not 3 years old until October, has covered approximately 15,000 miles. Not on extended service, just wondering what is involved and an idea of what costs from Skoda dealer ought to be. Thanks
  11. Just replaced my fob battery, spot on digifish.
  12. Interesting thoughts, might not be many places to go for a nice meal shortly due to the financial situation we seem to be in. Thanks everyone. Martin
  13. Yes I get up dates on sat nav such as location of fuel stations.
  14. Hi, I received an e-mail from Skoda yesterday advising me that my Skoda connect services has expired, I didn't bother renewing it last year and not sure what has changed with the vehicle since. I mentions use of call services in case of accident , I thought this was an EU safety directive and free to use. Is it a worthwhile purchase or not, we do not use the car for business travelling just commuting and the odd weekend trips ( not so much during the big freeze although going to Newcastle this week. Thanks. Martin
  15. Thanks for the plain English explanation sepulcrave. Martin
  16. Been looking at various media regarding pd 1.9 130 AZS engines and something referred to as 'injector lash' but the ifo is quite contradictory, can anyone advise how I deal with my original injectors once I fit them into my new cylinder head, I have ordered new injector nozzle with multiple seal kits, apart from that I am in the dark. Thanks in advance. Martin
  17. Appreciate your advice sepulcrave and Lofty, I have a mate who used to recon an engine flush every time he changed his but I was not convinced, just thought because the Fabia has been stood 3 years. Regards Martin
  18. Can anyone advise if Mannol energy premium synthetic engine oil 5w 30 VW 505 01 oil is suitable for my AZS engine, or are there any other makes better suited. Also as the car has been sorned for 3 years and only started for 20 mins every 3 weeks, should I use an oil flush product prior to fitting the new cylinder head as it looks quite black or is it better to change the oil and filter, fit the head, then once back on the road do a couple of hundred miles then flush and replace the oil and filter. Looking to buy re build bits black Friday to save a bob or two. Martin.
  19. Possibly been discussed before so apologies if it has. Can anyone advise how ARP cylinder head studs are used regarding torque settings for my Vrs pd, am I correct in the assumption that they are the same as head bolts and also the set sequence of tightening would be the same to stop possible deformation of the head. Also do the stud nuts require a thread lock product to keep them from loosening that would allow the nuts to be removed in future if necessary. Martin.
  20. Hi,and welcome to the site, we have a 4x4 sportline plus 190 diesel, it replaced a Volvo xc70 D5 manual 06 plate car that we owned and used for towing for 15 years on the continent mostly. The Volvo was without doubt a good tow car, very gutsy from low revs and great for towing /winter driving. The Superb has been used to tow for two summer holidays both trips were 400 miles round trips and boot full of stuff. Superb is a lighter car ( Volvo about 1800kg) and handles considerably better and rated to tow quite a lot more V-18oo kg S- 2200 kg although it's sits lower when hitched , Volvo had self levelling rear suspension. No worse on fuel with the dsg having said you are towing something with the aerodynamics of a shed. Still miss the more comfortable seats of the Volvo tho. Regards Martin
  21. Son phones, coming to visit, can you come and see what I am driving when I arrive? Turns out he bought a real petrol heads car Volvo V70 R Japanese import. Ordered it in March arrived Today. Well it sounds very nice for a standard car, not too loud and it goes down the road very well. In immaculate condition for a2005 car. Bit of a different beast to the Fabia VRS 1.9 I got from him. Martin
  22. Hi sepulcrave, i just wondered if thy may have lost their strength after 72,000 miles. Thanks. Martin
  23. I know I have mentioned this before and said I would fit new cylinder head valves and valve springs, is it sensible to re-use the existing valve springs with new valves? approximately 72,000 miles on original head. Thanks Martin
  24. Never fitted a cv boot before, managed to source a genuine VW/Skoda boot in damaged box for £6 quid or so, managed to fit it after removing drive shaft from the car. Definitely thick substantial boot material.
