Mont Blanc to Calais
We have travelled extensively around France for our summer camping holidays with the children, in a variety of diesel cars, a Laguna 2.2 d, and a BX 1.9 rd and our recently traded in xc70 d5. I always thought they all did better milage and did appear to run much better even on the back roads, I assumed it was the warmer dryer weather, also remember as mentioned it was allways easy to cruise along with out hardly any disruption excepting the toll booths stopps to pay on the almost glass smooth toll roads, also found the autobahn roads in Germany to be super smooth comared to our poor excuse for m ways never mind a/b ones.

What have you done to your Superb III today?
Every one to their own ,I see nothing wrong with the gloss black superb and 4x4 on the back of our car, it's about time Skoda were willing to show how proud they are of their products, and yes I know it is owned by the vag group.Just seems strange that the car is liked but not the name of the car, I suppose it could be worse and called 'autobiography' at least L&K realy means something. Martin.

The good, the (not so) bad and definitely not ugly Octavia iV Estate
Hi Jim2015, just had a read of your diary regarding your new Octavia iv, we too have owned several Skoda cars over the years, firstly a used 1.3 Felica hatch , great car, then a new end of line Mk 1 Octavia elegance hatch 1.9 pd, and still have the little Fabia vrs (slow resto project) Now we have the Superb which we bought at 8 months old with 2,800 miles (now 12 months old) it was chosen after test driving several Volvo vehicles which did not feel as well screwed together as our 15 year old xc70, as it served our needs as a tow car, dog transport (rear seat) and masses of space and of course comfort. Whilst the front seats are not as comfortable as our old Volvo they are very good. Infotainment is glitchy but dealer very sypathetic and helpful, although we still suffer some rare random issues with sat nav, but it's not a deal breaker. Whilst I understand some owners keep a strict check on fuel consumption we just fill up as and when required, we looked at the iv options but I personally think it's all smoke and mirrors, higher initial purchase cost and even more to go wrong once out of warrany and not as good a tow/ load lugger as a diesel, also we live very rural and have to drive 18 miles to decent shops. Each to their own and by no means are we bothered about all the gadgets, not keen on the large glass roof and supposed performance a car may have, it just drove brilliantly so we got the Superb. Martin.

Reversing Camera Retrofit
My thoughts on the reversing camera, having never had a vehicle with one it is new to me as it was fitted on our sportline plus, never rely on it solely for normal reversing, it has bleepers and mirrors. Although the camera is great for lining up the caravan hitch, saves arguments with the wife as she tries to direct me. I suppose it is an extra safety feature. It is also nice and clear.

Service Costs - Confused or Naive
As an assessor for NVQ level 4 quals in construction and gaining a level 3 NVQ equivalent in bricklaying and stone masonry many many years ago, any fraudulent claims soon get found out mainly by the lack of ability/knowledge.

Remote opening of boot
We keep our respective keys in a faraday pouch, never had any issues with the remote hatch opening ,only opens when required. Rather not have the hassle of pouches but don't want the car to go missing.

Possible Colour Change!? Opinions Please!
We owned a new 54 plate 1.9 pd elegance hatch in stone grey metallic, which was actually a nice blue.

Missing a plastic trim piece in the trunk

stop/start button on 2021 models
The stop start on off button on our sportline plus re sets to a default operating once you turn the ignition off!, not what i expected, I wrongly assumed it would stay permantly off, my reason being I do not want my engine turned off when it has been working hard such as towing as it is always reccomended to idle an engine for a miniute or so to make sure the turbo is cooled/lubricated with the hope of its going to last a long time. I don't like big brother controlling my purchase.

First time towing our caravan
Thanks for all of your responses, I ought to mention the cruise worked as normal without caravan on tow once we made camp. We lightly loaded both caravan and car as I was unsure how it would handle, caravan always loaded sensible, car 2 up with only luggage. Caravan mro1100 kg , with 200 kg load alowance. Definitely not overloaded for the car spec. I will contact the Westfalia fitter to discuss. Martin.

First time towing our caravan
Towed our caravan for the first time and to my surprise and disapointment I could not get cruise control to work, on the dash it showed an orange car with acc . Every time I tried to set cruise it would not engage, dealer never mentioned this and he was specifically told it would tow. Only use cruise on roads that are mildly populated but having to keep maintaining 60 mph with my right foot for nearly 4.5 hours is not at all what I expected. Our old Volvo was able to tow with cruise control. It is supposed to have been correctly coded when I had the tow bar fitted (Westfalia )approved fitter. Can anyone advise if it ought to accept cruise when towing or if the coding carried out is missing something. On the towing capabilities the stability at 60 mph is a revelation, very stable, quiet and smooth indeed. Martin.

Towbar fitting
My newly accuired sportline + shows towing capacity of 2,200kg on the V5C.

Towbar fitting
I have very recently had a Westfalia detachable tow bar fitted with correct coding for £760, I thought that was a good price

options fitted to our sportline +
A few weeks have passed since we became superb owners, a sportline + 190 tdi dsg 4x4, it was an ex Skoda management car. Whilst we know of the obvious options it was built with, spare wheel, full sonroof, heated steering wheel with gear change paddles, digital dash, we are not sure what else it may have. I spoke to the Skoda sales person about this on Monday, I asked about the headlights and was told that they are 'adaptive' or something like that. Found out It has radar cruise control but not sure if it was astandard fitment. I asked for a build sheet and was told they do not exist!, so my question was how do they know what is required in a customers car when they build it, 'nothing on paper only on computer' Is there a site I can go to to find out with its vin number or will Skoda uk be the best direction, was told they might not help find out by sales person which I find strange Due to covid we were not able to have the normal hand over ,only a discription of basic driving as it is our first automatic vehicle. Oh and what's with the wierd text I could only type in, or is it me-picnic. Martin.

Another Question - Tow Bar or Spare Wheel
Its an Adria, although not surfac graphics, or surface paint, somehow laminated to the alloy side panels so it appears to be within the panel if that makes sense,I don't think of it as pretty, just a bit marmite. Only 2 in the country as it didnt sell, over 20 different side combinations. Martin

Another Question - Tow Bar or Spare Wheel
Hi , looking at the link you and reading it all, the visible height of a suitable radiator are supposedly 6 inches tall as opposed to 1 inch tall, just looked at my radiator and it has dual fans, is this normal fitment for a towing prepped Superb. Also I thought it would be more common to improve engine/ oil cooling as well. Martin.

Another Question - Tow Bar or Spare Wheel
We have just bought an 8 month old Superb sportline plus 190 tdscr 4x4 dsg and told by Skoda dealer that the car could have a retro fitted tow bar, all in writing, in fact this was the main requirement that it had to be suitable for towing a caravan, traded in a 15 year old Volvo d5 estate used for towing. Dealer said that the factory towing prep had been carried out during its build. We organised to have a Westfalia detachable sysytem fitted rated at 2,200 kg with appropriate coding On the v5 it clearly states un breaked tow limit of 2,200kg. Are you suggesting Skoda dealer have got it wrong. Interested to hear how you got your info

Glitches with on board display
Following discussion and help from our Skoda dealer it turns out that there was nothing wrong with the navigation mirroring it was my lack of knowledge and reluctance to study the cars manual. Martin.

The Superb III Picture thread
Washed for the second time and polished with Auto Glym high definition caranuba wax, nice shine although not too keen on the white powder residue which seems to be statically attracted to the body. Might try one of the ceramic coatings in future.

Skoda Superb Estate Mk3 4x4
Just noticed your post string, I had a manual Volvo xc 70 D5, that car has just been traded in for a Superb 190 td 4x4. The Volvo was amazing in snow, loads of low down torque, quite heavy is a benefit and as mentioned good tyres, in fact it had so much tourque it would squeel all driven wheels under aceleration if I was on my own on a quiet back road. Fitted Michelin cross climate tyres which were a revelation for being quieter, grippier in the wet/snow than the original Pirelli fitment. Still miss the beast 13 and a half years of exceptional reliability. Hope the Superb is as good. Martin
