  1. I bought a door regulator fitted to the steel door inner and transferred the motor , mine was pop riveted to the door so had to buy large rivets and a larger rivet gun. £32 for the regulator, mine had the cable broken and so screwed up I decided that was my best diy option. Can't say if it rattles whilst driving as car sorned.
  2. Not too keen on this Skoda dealer, whilst it is under warranty it will go to a different Skoda garage from now on, getting the discs replaced at an independent garage with a substantial cost saving , this independent mechanic thinks that because the car had initially only covered 2,917 miles in 8 months the discs probably were rusting badly when we bought it, but near impossible to prove. They also think Skoda should help with the costs, I discussed with the supposed Skoda dealer lead technician this morning but not willing to help my cause saying it's wear and tear. This car cost quite a lot of money and they are not bothered. Still think the car is great though.
  3. Those without sin cast the first stone.
  4. Yes it was Skoda approved
  5. I have just noticed on the Skoda report that the service is due when displayed on the dash and brake fluid service due October 2024.
  6. Hi rootoot, I recieved a phone call from the Skoda dealer completely out of the blue, where we bought the car last year at 8 months and 2,800 miles also badgering about air con service but told them no it's working fine, also about the pan roof needed a service too to which I said no thanks. Not sure what service type it is on. All they did was the brake fluid change for £65 inc vat plus a key fob battery for £5.98 which worked but receptionist says there was displayed message on dashboard, not noticed that but can,t be sure, the other two fobs must also be possibly dying if that's the case.
  7. As promised the milage of the car is 12,466 -30 miles less when Skoda had the car yesterday to change the brake fluid and advised that the break discs. Skoda garage provided a video of the break disc conditions and the issues are all on the inside surfaces with areas of corrosion visible. The report states - Brakes front- pads less than 50% worn, discs around 70% corroded on inside surface, advise. Brakes rear states- pads less than 50%worn, discs around 80% corroded on inside surface, advise. With a time total allocation of 2hrs 40 mins work to replace. Tyres are all an average of over 6.5mm tread. Never owned a car that had such apparent issues with break discs in such a short time/ low mileage before.
  8. Not expecting to be told by the selling Skoda dealer that they say the front and rear brake disc's are requiring replacing soon, they provided a video of the front and rear disc's condition. It is in for It's first brake fluid replacement (two years old), although it is still safe to drive, which is my main concern. Drove it last week end and stopped fine. I have noted that there is a running theme of poor-quality Skoda disc's not lasting/corroding. The car has covered approximately 12,000 miles since new ( will correct when wife brings it back later). Given a price of £840 for pads and discs front and back for genuine Skoda parts. This looks expensive to me. Any one know what diameter and vented or solid discs fit this car- 190 hp 4x4 dsg estate. Any recommendations on aftermarket brands would be helpful. Martin
  9. Hi sepulcrave, the head that is on the running engine has suffered from head lift putting exhaust gasses into the expansion bottle -chemical tests confirm. I thought that new valves would only require fine grinding in with paste due to the new cylinder head being supposedly one of best quality available with appropriate valve seats already cut. Good to know about the other head parts. Martin
  10. Well its a while since I sourced and received my new cylinder head and my lack of knowledge regarding what can be transferred from the existing cylinder head to the brand new AMC one. I know I have already asked for advice regarding this but I must get it sorted now after sitting for 3 years plus I have never attempted this precise critical type of work. The car has I suspect has still got its original cylinder head the car has covered 71,378 miles with full-service history prior to be laid up (started every 2-3 weeks) I do appreciate I must fit new valves and springs and valve seals, new head gasket along with new stronger head bolts. I have a brand-new AMC camshaft kit with hydraulic tappets, cam shaft seal. Should I re use the existing rocker arms/bolts or will they be too worn for new valves/ camshaft. Will the injectors require re conditioning or can they be simply re used as is with new seals. I intend to fit new Gates cam belt water pump kit, engine oil and coolant. I have a timing locking kit. I need 5 new tyres as well so would like to keep costs to a minimum where sensible/possible. I intend to keep it for a while when sorted or until older diesel vehicles are priced off the road. Oh and I have approached several local garages who initially didn't want to carry out the works 3 years ago. Anyhow I look forwards to help with the above thoughts. Martin.
  11. Better grip in dry or wet/icy conditions only if you are sensible, not had to drive in snow/ice as yet with the Superb, old Volvo it replaced (2006 D5 cross country0 was exceptional in snow, seen many a landrover sat spinning in a verge, also dependent very much on tyres. Better for towing a caravan especially manoeuvring on damp grass etc.
  12. Simple answer to the garage size, 8 ft wide door and yes the Superb fits in for width with space to open the door, I built the house when I was 28 with my late Dad, builders for 6 generations. As you mention most garages made too narrow to allow more homes on the sites.
  13. Finally got a nice day today, washed and used Turtle wax graphene stuff for the first time, very easy to apply with no residue after buffing off. Also dressed the tyres for the first time in 12 months. pleased with the Turtle wax products.
  14. feeding the window motor wires through the door bellows was fun-not.
  15. Morning , I appreciate all of your inputs regarding my 'glazed discs' the car was first registered in October 2020, I was advised by the selling Skoda dealer it was a 2021 model, it was 8months old when we bought it last year and had covered only 2,917 miles at that time. It has very strong brakes even after the 'glazed inner side of the front disc's' of course my interpretation of 'strong ' is not measured on a machine , certainly massively better than our old admittedly heavier Volvo estate that was Volvo serviced, the 2016 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 turbo did not have as strong a breaking system which we owned from new and px'd at almost 100,000mls. I am not a mechanic (building contractor 6th generation) although I would have thought brake disc issues at this low millage would be through rusting (standing idle on the drive) and not glazing especially only on the inner side. We all know the car is a load swallower/ comfy cruiser not a 'b' road rocket that would possibly suffer 'glazed discs if driven as if its stolen. Since sourcing and fitting new disc's for the Fabia vrs Pagid with Brembo pads and finding the cost savings that can be made if you have the time /tools and basic knowledge and this great forum resources along with a Haynes manual (sourced in a Harrogate charity shop in as new condition). I will be contacting the Skoda garage next week to discuss further. Martin.
  16. I would have thought both sides ought to be similarly affected unless the caliper carrier is not free to float the pads away from the disc surface when not baraking.
  17. Had our first intermediate service on the Superb this week, 12 months since we bought it, at the suppling Skoda approved garage. Milage was 9,756 miles from new. Items identified as urgently rerquiring attention are the front discs due to inner face pitting and the on set of inner face glazing, pads are less than 25% worn, outer faces ok. Pollen filter requires changing in October 22. Quote for £399 for front discs replacing but no mention regarding changing the pads. Pollen filter £32.74. Car still has manufacturers warranty. Not had chance to discuss why these discs are in this condition and never had these issues with any othe car, it seems rather strange , could it be the calipers are not free to float away from the discs on the carriage pins. Any one had similar issues. Also price seems a bit steep. Martin.
  18. Is there anyone able to advise if the gasket is a two hole version, TPS wern't any use. Martin.
  19. Hi vindaloo, I assume you are refering to the new AMC head regarding the swarf. Yes I have read about connections that wear over time and come off suddenly, will give them a check . Thanks Martin
  20. Hi , can anyone advise if the head gasket on my vrs is a 2 hole version from my picture as I ams sourcing parts to fit my new cylinder head in place of the leaking one. Thanks Martin
  21. Hi, the reason i mentioned removing the glow plugs is because I bought a second hand head with a snapped off glow plug that the seller forgot to mention or show in photo's got a full refund from the con merchant. I just wondered if they seize in place with age. Thanks Martin
  22. Hi, it suffered head lift with combustion gasses into the coolant , proven by garage whilst my son used the car (in for cam belt change) I swapped my late recently deceased (at the time) Dad's car for the Vrs, which has been sorned ever since. Dark side develoments tuned it up for my Son but never mentioned about stronger head bolts, it started using water just prior to the garage finding out. I have also bought a kit to test for gasses that confirmed head lift. Also appreciate your info but too complicated for me to try. Thanks Martin
  23. I like the standard look although I do think gloss black suits the car and are an improvement, a wheel refurbisher told me diamond cut alloys that are not painted always deteriorate quickly.
  24. Having put a post on items required to do/need new on my projects section, I have finally bought a new AMC cylinder head, sitting under my computer desk at home. I would appreciate any thoughts on what I can use from the still running engine cylinder head, I will be sourcing new valves, not sure what brand tho, spoke to TPS and not very helpfull at all. Anyhow obviously a new head gasket, thought it was 3 hole but it's 2 , have a brand spanking boxed AMC camshaft kit, bought second hand for a song which makes a change last year. how do I get the injectors and glow plugs out, obviously as carefull as possible, might be stuck!! New valve springs. what about the valve collets, new seals for the valves and glow plugs, Gates camshaft and water pump kit would be my pick,. Are there any bolts I must not re use, or use a thread lock on either new or re used. It's taken 3 years to get to this stage but my local mechanic suddenly passed away 4 years ago and he would have told me . Any help advice would be very much appreciated, Titanium man has helped as have some other members but as we know I don't want to bother him at the moment with my trivial stuff. Another thing It smokes under load when it was last on the road with my Son, tuned up poorly in my opinion, probably over fuelled, can I swap the engine controll thingy (used one)without programming it to this car) standard map one. Thanks in advance Martin.
  25. Spent enough on the new head allready!
