  1. Hi kenOneil, funny you mention a Citroen Bx, my lade Dad had two new ones, first a burgundy red 1.9rd with the rocker switch for indicators and rolling drum speedo, then a grey 1.9 rd with normal switch gear, lovely cars.
  2. Hi Titanium!! Hope you are feeling better. Car has only covered about 72,000 miles fsh, but off road for 3 years but started every month, oil looks thick though!!!!! but starts instantly, no glow plug time required even in winter. As to bits for the head swap, I figured on sourcing new valves, 'Febi' or Elring possibly. I did think about using the existing ones but possibly false economy. I suppose I ought to use fine grinding paste to help them seat, not sure if I should. New valve seals, new valve springs, hope to remove existing glow plugs and re use with new sealing washers. new valve cover rubber gasket although no sign of leaks from it. Not sure if I should re use valve rockers, no Idea what other parts I might need, getting some engine building oil for cam shaft, valves. Coolant, vw spec stuff what ever that is,ne pd spec engine oil, thinking of running engine untill up to temperature on the drive then draining it, and re filling. And as mentioned the Gates cam belt kit. More than you realise but need to do it the best I can Martin.
  3. Things are coming together now, new AMC cylinder head arrived this week.
  4. Thinking of you this evening.
  5. At last, 3 years after getting the car off my Son with a head gasket leak , buying a used cylinder head 2 weeks ago, taking it to a noted engine builder / repairer only to be told it required skimming and valve sleeve's, got a refund from the seller, and being thouroughly peed off I decided to promise to do the washing up for ever! and look for a new cylinder head. This evening bought a brand new AMC bare head (£loads of money) from a supplier of new engine parts to fit my AMC camshaft kit in to which I bought of a chap in Northern Ireland for £125, last year. Aparrently he had a Fabia VRS and was collecting items to rebuild his engine only to have the car stolen/ smashed up. I need a set of valves, valve springs and other things (never attempted this type of job before). If anyone can advise what else i need that would be great, along with best manufacturers names. Getting a Gates cam belt kit, already have a timing locking kit and pd 150 head bolts. Just need that final push to begin the strip down/point of no return!
  6. My Son was the second owner from new, fssh, he was desperate to have it tuned so got darkside to give it the 165 or something tune, problem being they did not mention it would be safer to change the head bolts for stronger ones, he drove it for a few months when it was due a service and cam belt, the garage advised it was suffering from a leaking head gasket having carried out a chemical test on the expansion bottle water. I have carried out the same test last summer and it has combustion gasses present . So I assume head lift has occured.
  7. Trying my best, hope to sort a replacement head soon. Cheers.
  8. Best of luck, thinking of you.
  9. We were almost set on the new Volvo v 60 to replace our Volvo xc 70 d5 that we owned for 15 years, when we saw the boot size we bought the Superb estate. Martin.
  10. Aero mirrors for me, used them last year fo firs time on our new Superb, mirror housing shape not the best but stayed on ok for 600 mile round trip. Not sure how good strap type would work as mirror shape may allow straps to slip off. Martin
  11. Smart looking car.
  12. I can agree that the Superb sportline plus that we have is wallowy car, the Volvo xc70 it replaced was also wallowy but not quite as bad, we did have new front struts and springs replaced which did improve things in that respect. The Volvo was a heavier car and possibly more nose heavy due to the d5 engine, it also had rear self leveling suspension, no doubt that helped firm it up a bit. At the moment I was more confident on twisty roads wityh the Volvo tha the Superb, tyres are aso a factor , we had Michelin cross climate fitted and it felt much improved over the Pirelli scorpions that were fitted previously. Martin.
  13. Thanks for your advice and thoughts, will have a look next weekend due to stormy weather at the moment.
  14. What a shame, hope you can get it sorted.
  15. Can anyone advise how best to remove the interior cill to carpet trims so I can run my new rear camera for my dash cam. Would rater it was in that position rather than possibly inerfering with the air bags/pano roof drain tubes. Thanks Martin
  16. That would have helped no end. Martin Exactly the same issue I had. Martin
  17. Fitted a dash cam, hard wired, followed info from Superbsport and @Royf280, hardest part was being careful but firm removing the windscreen A pillar trim, quite difficult to re fit but managed ok in the end. Rear camera fitting to follow.
  18. Hi, just seen this thread, mine was missing but found one at my local breakers yard for nothing.
  19. Hi everyone, appreciate your thoughts, I can confirm that there are no issues with the caravan brake lights. The tow bar was coded by Westfalia, I paid extra for this
  20. Prior to all these electronic type brakes, I too always left what ever car we have owned only in gear whilst in the level floored garage, only used hand break when required away from home, allways put manual gear box cars in to neutral whilst stationary in traffic, never rode the clutch, things my late Dad showed me. Although I use the auto hold function on the Superb, my van has hill hold but never use it as it carries quite a bit of weight and the engine boggs on release, hand brake allways with the van. Martin
  21. Oh, not much else you could do, my late Dad once loked his keys in a Renault 16 at his brother inlaws 100 miles from home , phoned Renault dealer who said 'just hit the hatch chrome exposed lock barel with a hammer , covered it with a towel and it popped open without damage, no such luck nowadays. Hope it's not too expensive to fix.
  22. Hi rootoot, yes our car is a 190 tdi 4x4 , I did not realise that there were both dry and wet clutch 7 speed sysytems, so could it be the DQ381 as fitted to mbq platform vehicles, not sure where I can find this out . And yes I am aware of the dsg wet type and the haldex requires correct timely servicing. Martin
  23. I thought that every type of gear box suffers some type of wear though it's intended operation, I think my Superb has a dry dsg box and I know it's 7 speed I always use the auto hold hand brake, it has no obvious 'loading' sensation while stationary. This thread does appear to be getting more confusing by the day.
  24. Having owned a Volvo xc 70 d5 manual from 2 years old for 15 years we fully expected that when we decided to change ( nothing wrong with it and 105, 000 miles) that it would most lkely be a nother Volvo, we test drove an xc60 d4 auto inscription and I was completley underwhelmed with the way is handled, performed and wobbled and thumped and crashed down a 'b' road, our son in law has one but a lower spec momentum as he found the same issues , smaller wheels and fatter tyres made all the difference. I own a Vivaro van and that is much smother empty ! So we opted for the Superb, not the smoothest spec but miles better than the Volvo. Didn't bother with either the v90 or v60 as in my opinion they are estate car designs but are very poorly sized for luggage space. The d4 was so slugish and rowdy. Just my recent experience which was quite a disapointment.
