Advise on buying a 2000-2003 Fabia
BoilingPoint replied to vox's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Sure on paper the 1.4 8v is pretty dire, however give it some stick and it'll keep up with and even embarrass many newer larger engined cars. The downside of all that lead footedness is a relatively poor MPG. If your feeling less energetic though it'll get you briskly to 60mph and purr along all day long. -
Nah' it is better when cruising, however, there are so many knobs around these parts that assume just because your driving a skoda that your going to be slow and not know how to drive. That I end up getting mad at them cutting me up etc... and kinda show them what the car's capable of. Childish I know, but I just can't help myself sometimes. I gotta laugh when some boy racer tailgates me and is riding the white line looking for an opportunity to overtake. That as soon as the road is clear I floor it and the look of surprise on their face is worth a thousand words. Sure they stay with me on the straights, but through the corners or roundabouts, they simply don't know how to extract the best from their cars. By the time they catch back up to me, they've learned something and tend to not tailgate any more...

Well I suppose we got until 6pm tomorrow before the 24 hour deadline is up. -
Anyone else tried downloading the new browser? I thought I'd pop along and help them get their numbers up. It kicked off around 6pm (BST). But the website is totally locked out. I think their servers have melted under the strain. Even so I'll try again later. Sounds kinda' cool to be part of a world record attempt. Heres the link http://www.spreadfirefox.com/worldrecord/ Good luck with loading it.

welcome to brisky vsandz... Lovely drivers roads up your way. Try to get up to North Wales at least once a year. Would move there if I could afford it. Just can't get enough of that countryside.

I feel for you dude... What's the country coming to? Were all going to loose our independence at this rate, and be reliant on public transport. Which is a joke at the best of times. I mean, who willingly wants to share their personal space with potential drug users, paedophiles and murderers. Extreme... yes, but you get my drift. I for one have had to endure public transport and will fight tooth and nail to never have to again.

Sounds a good deal. Fingers crossed mate...

Fabia 1.4 8v self servicing
BoilingPoint replied to amy_fabia's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Cheers almost forgot about the sump plug... Sounds like the fuel filter would be a good idea too as I've just passed the 40k mark. (not bad for a car that's almost 9 years old) -

Don't get me started on cyclists.... They can share our roads when they pay insurance and road tax. Until then they can F**k off!! -
Fabia 1.4 8v self servicing
BoilingPoint replied to amy_fabia's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Actually spoke to my local garage about this today and was told that if I buy the necessary filters and fluids myself, all he'll charge me is £35.00. So I'll be putting my little baby in to be serviced in the next week or so. Figure I'll need... Air Filter Oil Filter Oil Spark Plugs Steering Fluid Might even get my front break pads done at the same time. Rear shoes look to have plenty left on them. Anything else? -

Why don't they just fit every new car with a black box that when you enter an area with a restricted speed limit (30mph) the vehicle simply won't go over the designated speed. Very young and very old drivers should have a symbol attached to the vehicle, similar to the 'P' plate system for new drivers. Then other road users could be alerted and take appropriate action. -
20k !! You'd not make it up some of the hills around here changing up that soon. You gotta redline 2nd, 4.5k 3rd and you'll cruse at 60mph all the way to the top, anything less and you loose too much power and end up labouring the engine. But I agree that in-town driving can be very relaxed and 2-2.5k is what I would normally do too.

Engine start up issues when WARM!
BoilingPoint replied to bushell89's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
As VRS 203 just said, the Coolant Temp Sensor will most probably be the problem. I had exactly what you describe happen to me when I bought mine almost 2 years ago, once the sensor was replaced it's not missed a beat since. -

It's all about freedom of choice. Why should the elderly, you know, the people that made this country what it is today, be forced to use public transport. Could you see yourself as an OAP travelling to tesco's and back again (with a dozen or so bags). I know that I for one would hate to have to do that now, let alone when I've one foot in the grave. -

Two wrongs don't make a right though. He did something very silly. You were driving too fast and too close (by the sound of things). Maybe you both should be re-tested...
