Thanks @PoloPaul, @JamesK, and @SteveTheElder. It’s reassuring to know the earlier cars can be made good! If a car has 1941 or 1969 does that mean all issues should be sorted, or can the infotainment be updated to these leaving other issues behind?

I’m looking at a mk4 VRS estate to replace our Passat, a couple of questions for those who posted earlier in this thread and hopefully still have their cars! - for early cars, have software updates cured or improved the frustrations? - have later cars cured or improved the frustrations? Thanks.

It’s on eBay at £45 with no interest despite being the cheapest. £30 posted any good? Will have a rummage see if I saved the grommet as well.

If I were you I’d be moving the trailer socket to behind the boot trim, where the trailer control module is positioned but leaving it wired in. If you need one I have the crash beam from when I fitted my towbar.

I’ll second was @Offski said re dropping the sump plug after pumping. Not sure what engine you have, but I have the CFFB engine in both Superb and a 2011 Golf. The Skoda is a bit new to be servicing myself but with the Golf, there is still over a litre of oil that the Pela can’t get. So you need to be dropping and replacing the sump plug anyway.

Factory Prep Towbar Electrics
HughGabriel replied to bluroom's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
@trakhat that’s good to know. Finished the wiring last night, and coding this evening on mine. Away this weekend then towing the car trailer and friend’s kit car across Kent next weekend. The relay setup you describe is exactly what the Westfalia kit has between the battery distributor post and the control box behind the NS boot trim. What the control box does with it, or if it just passes through unused I do not know. -

I assumed that as Westfalia is OEM for the B7 Passat it would be the same for these. I was very frustrated to find they aren’t. On on the plus side, the boot trim and sill trims are much easier to remove without breaking on this than the Passat! -

I have just installed a Westfalia kit into mine, it came with 2 parts, the 13pin CANBUS towbar wiring exc. the charging function (part number 321600300153), and the Optional charging cable (called extension kit part number 300028300113). The 13pin towbar wiring (ie exc. the charging) has fuses in 4, 43, 44, 45. So the fuses are not definite identifier. I have not installed the extension kit for 2 reasons: - it runs down the near side of the car so is a second lot of trim to remove. - the relay control wire crimps to a switch (ignition) 12v. I dont like crimp connectors and haven't investigated if there is a spare spade terminal on a suitable point of the fuse box to use instead. The main feed connects to the m6 battery feed distributor so that isn't a worry. -
Accelerator pedal stiff when driving only.

This might sounds like a silly question, but did you have your seatbelt on? The one time I drove our previous Passat without a seatbelt (was only moving it 100m) I noticed the same. -
Urgent help please - messed up car with VCDS
HughGabriel replied to Rjg's topic in Diagnostics & VCDS
Could it be something as simple as throttle slightly pressed while doing the adaptation? Might be a daft suggestion as I have never done either of those 2 myself, if so apologies. -
When I did mine I just tucked the cable behind the black rubber trim next to the a-pillar trim rather than the trim itself so I wasn’t anywhere near the airbag.

OEM gear console switches for dash cam
HughGabriel replied to TerryC's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
What camera have you got Delboy and is it any good? I’m looking at dash and at the moment and would prefer either a single or linked front and rear cameras rather than just having 2 separate cameras. -
Buying a high mileage DSG 170bhp

Good hope you enjoy it and the engine light isn’t anything serious. -
It's a TSI I assume? Sounds like blow by past the rings, or a combination of that plus turbo seals or valve guides worn. Does it smoke on hard acceleration?

@Gizmo I just spotted you are also in Kent so was going to ask why go up to Mansfield, that answers it though!
