Tow bar detachable hitch size
Charade replied to Edd 110 TDI Estate's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings, I had a Westfalia towbar fitted by Towsure to my 64 plate MkII Superb estate when it was 10 months old. According to Towsure (at the time) the bar is the same as fitted to an Octavia estate of that year. I hope this helps. AndyW -
@varooom I think I'll go for the same as what's in already - see pic attached. I know it's not rocket science. In my "youth" I've changed big ends on my Trumph Herald, for some reason flashed my Triumph Spitfire from positive earth to negative earth (I still can't remember why), modified the valves and head on my mk2 Cortina GT and put a recon engine in our VW caravanette (1971) but now, just starting my seventh decade, when I look under the bonnet of my Superb I wilt. I think (hope) I can manage a battery change though 🤗. AndyW

Greetings and apologies to Graham Butcher for tacking my (related) query onto his post, I have a 2014 Superb Combi SE 140 diesel manual gearbox and I think the winter has finally taken it's toll on my battery; mind you it is the original battery (I've had the car since it was 9 months old - aah). The car still starts but the stop/start doesn't stop/start(?) any more even after an hour's motorway journey. I'm confused about the replacement side of things. I've read this post and the query about coding. I've read various articles about stop/start batteries needing encoding to the vehicle. Halfords (hmm) say the new battery has to be encoded. That's all fine BUT my vehicle manual states: "We recommend having the battery replaced by a specialist garage, where the new vehicle battery will be installed properly and the original battery will be disposed of in accordance with national regulations". (Page 192 REPLACE) Now the question: Is the manual's statement a disguised way of saying that it does need coding when it states "installed properly" or does the battery not require coding? AndyW ps I was going to check whether the existing battery is an AGM or EFB, apparently this is important, but it is persistantly precipitating it down outside so I haven't yet.

Opening Bonnet From Fully Closed If Battery Is Dead?
Charade replied to 2006edr's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
???. The vehicle key is still required to open the door, it's not like using a paperclip. Surely it's only a "potential security" if you lose your key in which case the vehicle is actually insecure? AndyW -
Opening Bonnet From Fully Closed If Battery Is Dead?
Charade replied to 2006edr's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings, Try reading the manual, section "Do-it-yourself/Emergency unlocking/locking". AndyW -
Greetings, Further to my earlier post (11 posts above this on) I have received another reply from a high(ish) ranking UK manager. With regard to the app being poor: "The MYSKODA App is now one application which has been made from merging the following applications together MY SKODA, SKODA ONE and SKODA CONNECT. The application has been released to the public domain however is still in the process of full development by the factory at this moment in time which means that not all functionalities are presently available for use." That explains that then. With regard to issue where the car shown in the app is a different spec to what it really is: "The trim level showing ambition instead of SE: this has been confirmed that the App has been made as a global app, not just for UK spec. The reason that the app shows your car as an ambition trim is because this is the European variant of the vehicle. I can assure you our UK records all show your vehicle as an SE, however the app will always show as ambition." That makes that OK then Wth regard to the Digital Service History: "Digital Service History will become available in time, however are still being developed and tested, we do not have a time-scale for this as this is being under taken at factory level and there are many aspects for them to cover to enable this to happen." Hmm, I was going to make a sarcastic but witty comment about VAG being the largest car manufacturer in the World having created yet another software blunder, the first of which cost them a penny or two, but I don't think I will. Greetings, I've just had a reply from Customer Services about the Service history issue: "Furthermore, viewing the vehicle service history is now no longer available on the MyŠKODA App, I do apologise for the inconvenience. If you would like to view your vehicle service history please contact ourselves at Customer Service or your local Retailer." so it looks final that in app service history is not going to be available. AndyW ps - another issue I have with Skoda is that when I entered my VIN into the new app, a different car was loaded to the one I have, with different trim level and year model. This is still to rectified.

Skoda U.K. announces new My Skoda app
Charade replied to Warkman's topic in Audio, Electronics and Security
Greetings, Totally agree, no necessary information available in this new app. A strange thing is that when I logged into the new app, I was given a choice of 6 Skoda cars with VIN numbers only one of which I own - it's the only Skoda I've ever owned. When I checkmarked that correct car and finished all the other "tasks" I looked at the vehicle details and it was showing the incorrect trim level - Ambition trim NOT SE trim as it should be. I've emailed Skoda with my thoughts and comments and I'll let you know what they say, if anything. Currently this app is a waste of phone memory. I think I'll delete it until I read that the app actually does something useful. AndyW -
Signaling Recall for Superb, anyone else?
Charade replied to clover's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings, Just checked and my Superb SE FL has filament bulbs even though it's manufacture date was18 August 2014. Ho Hum. Still I suppose they're cheaper to replace. AndyW -
Signaling Recall for Superb, anyone else?
Charade replied to clover's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings Ethel, Mine's a facelift and has had no recall. To be honest I don't know if I have LED indicators or not - I feel ashamed now! I do know that the brake lights are LED though. I read that in the brochure when I bought the car. AndyW -
Signaling Recall for Superb, anyone else?
Charade replied to clover's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings, From what I can gather, this is a "Safety Recall" while the emissions recall was not - Safety being the emotive word. Looking totally negatively, it's possible that if you ignore a safety recall, it could be argued that It may raise the interest of the boys (and girls) in blue if you're pulled over for any reason or even prolong or reduce a claim (or even invalidate your insurance) in the event of an accident. I don't know obviously It's pure paranoia on my part 'cos it always seems to me that those that flout or seriously bend the rules seem to get away with most things. Wheras those that do everything correctly always seem to get done for the slightest thing. I'm quite prepared to be shot down in flames - AndyW -
Signaling Recall for Superb, anyone else?
Charade replied to clover's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings I've not had the letter so checked on the Gov.uk website here https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ and apparently there is an official recall from February this year but mine is not involved. I then went onto the DVLA site here https://www.check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk/recall-type/vehicle/make/SKODA/model/SUPERB/year and apparently only 5764 vehicle are involved. I do find that quite odd. AndyW -
Superb II Detachable Tow Bar recommendations
Charade replied to SuperbTWM's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings, I had a Witter detachable with dedicated electrics fitted to my 2014 Estate in 2015 by Indespension for £525. Working on 5% inflation per year thats around £670 today so £700 could be about right. Try ringing Indespension, they seem to be nationwide. Hope that helps - AndyW -
I've not had a problem with Halfords Smart Charger Plus for different batteries, even brought 2 golf trolley lead acids back from the dead. Not used it on an AGM though so maybe doesn't answer you question. The specs say it's for - Lead Acid, Gel, Calcium, AGM, EFB, Start/Stop, Lithium (LiFePO4)
-
Thanks superbdreams, it certainly does seem odd. After I wrote this post this morning I had a terrible thought. For 4 years I've been driving the grandchildern around in the back and, with no warning chimes, I assumed they were fully belted (so to speak) and safe. Who knows? We all know how "brave" small children are; liking to get one over the grownups without thinking of the consequences. Phew - AndyW
-
Greetings I've tried a search but there are hundred of topics for rear, seat, alarm, chime etc. but not for all of them put together, so apologies if I've missed a previous topic on this.. I've had my 2014 140SL Superb II FL Combi now for 4 years and have I noticed yesterday that there is no rear seat alarm alarm chime (my sister was sitting on the rear seat on a journey and when we arrived at the destination she was surprised to find she hadn't had her belt fastened). The manual only mentions a chime when the front seat belts aren't fastened so the question is " should the chime work for the rear seats"? It's not a major problem as it's taken me four years to notice it, so it's more curiosity really. AndyW

Or you can download the MyŠKODA app (Iknow it'work with Android, don't know about Ios); there are many comments on this forum about it. The app shows service history and has a complete manual for use offline. Tou have to log in then add your VIN. AndyW

replacement stop/start battery
Charade replied to jonathan.tong's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings, Thanks bigjohn. So when they "recommend that" they mean "it is imperative that". In my PDF owners manual there are 100+ instances of Skoda recommending for or against something. Now all I have to do is determine what is a suggestion, what is a DO NOT and what is imperative for my own Health & Safety. AndyW and yes - this has been written "tongue in cheek" but the battery scenario does highlight a potential problem for me at least as in my view a recommendation is a suggestion not a definite. -
replacement stop/start battery
Charade replied to jonathan.tong's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings, I've wondered about stop/start battery changing and coding. The replies here have ALMOST sorted it for me. The almost is because my owners manual states: Replace Read and observe and on page 190 first. The new vehicle battery must have the same capacity, voltage, current and size as the original battery. Suitable vehicle battery types can be purchased from a specialist garage. We recommend having the battery replaced by a specialist garage, where the new vehicle battery will be installed properly and the original battery will be disposed of in accordance with national regulations. Could it be that when Skoda say "we recommend.....specialist garage" they mean someone that can recode I wonder? -
Experience with the EA189 NOx Update
Charade replied to chimaera's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Greetings, I've no idea what my version of software is now. I had my car "fixed" at the beginning of the furore, as commented in this thread https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/404057-service-action-software-upgrade-ea-189-engines/?page=3 and here https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/404058-anyone-had-a-letter-yet-to-book-their-car-in-for-the-software-update/ Curiously though, after my last service (Skoda Garage Service Plan September 2018, my car again seemed slightly different - more eager to please if you get my drift. Another change of software or is it that I don't do too many miles these days and the car enjoyed bit of mechanical tinkering? Don't know and don't care really. I'm more than happy with my car both pre and post fix. AndyW -
"New" Superb 2, beginner questions
Charade replied to lordofazeroth's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
I assume you've not met my wife! Whatever car I buy (and come to that - caravan) there just never seems to be quite enough space in the cabin for things. The glove box and centre armrest are full of what can only be described as things. I moved everything out of them a month or so ago when the car went in for a service and MOT - I filled a carrier bag; OK a slight exaggeration and it goes without saying it all went back in the car again. I used to keep my manual in the underseat cubby hole, but now I keep my SatNav in there. AndyW -

Greetings, Well spotted vborovic. I wrote ages ago about manuals and other things. I kept a note of what I said and just cut and pasted that line without editing it. Apologies. However it does rectify the problem of where to keep the manual; I keep mine to hand on my phone. AndyW -

Greetings, re The Manual, if you can't find it try the "MySkoda" app available on Android (not sure about IOS). It as details about your car and an electronic version of the manual; for my 2014 Superb II FL 140 anyway. AndyW
