Passenger could not unlock door from inside
If someone is in the car when you leave it, just get them to lock it from the button within the car (on the dash near the gearstick). That way they are secure in a locked vehicle and can also open the doors to get out if needed.

Rapid Spaceback: Five Years of Ownership (and counting)
How did you wire up the dash camera? Looking to do the same with mine instead of having it plugged into the cigarette lighter.

Dropping a wheel size - 17" to 16"
That means I could potentially use something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Set-Of-Genuine-16-Inch-VOLKSWAGEN-POLO-Alloy-Wheels-Rims-5x100-6-5J-6R0601025N/143698661343?epid=1036700050&hash=item21751b8fdf:g:HtAAAOSwl5dfRLwl to replace my current wheels, as the bolt holes are the same. Interesting stuff!

Dropping a wheel size - 17" to 16"
Fitting narrow wheels sounds like an interesting option, I'd imagine that will make the car quieter and possibly more economical (or am I just talking nonsense)? Will there be any noticeable drop in grip? I like how the 17"s look on the Rapid because they look to be the correct size for the car, and I can't see 16" looking much different. I wouldn't want to go lower than 16" for the same reason as you mentioned. That is an added benefit if I do change the wheel size to something more common. There's a lot of options for a 16" 5x100 wheel, so just a case of finding something I like and seeing if it will fit. Thankyou to everyone for their input! Very insightful/helpful

Dropping a wheel size - 17" to 16"
Thanks for all the info! Very much appreciated. I agree with your earlier comment that 15" looks too small for a car this size, they'd look like smarties in comparison. I currently have Avon ZV7 tyres on the car, which were rated to be fairly quiet. I hadn't considered changing the tyres in all fairness.

Dropping a wheel size - 17" to 16"
Hello! My car currently has the below wheels, but I'm looking to potentially drop a size to 16" to increase comfort on long journeys (I do a lot of motorway miles a week for work). I've read that you can put Fabia/Ibiza/Leon wheels on the Rapid without issue, so wheel choice is fairly wide. 215/40R17 87T 7Jx17 ET46 5x100 Will dropping from 17" to 16" have any benefit, or is it a better bet dropping to 15"? Thanks,

Rapid 1.2 Petrol Fuel Cap wont open
Hello! My car had the same problem, and it was a simple replacement at the garage as the locking mechanism failed. I had to get the AA out to break mine open (broke off the little hook it uses to lock shut) using plastic wedges. There's a few threads about it in the Rapid forum, but here's one below that might be of use:

Wash Mitt Recommendations
Hello! This might be a bit of a boring question, but after my original wash mitt (Wilko own brand) disintergrated after my last car wash, I'm wonder what do you lovely people use and what they recommend? I've only ever used dirt-cheap micofibre ones, but I'm curious to know if all wash mitts basically the same or are there any real benefits to getting different branded ones/different makes? Thanks,

Lightcliffe Skoda - Warrington
I suppose I wasn't expecting the fight they put up, which just wore me down to the point of stopped caring. You are right, it does sort of defeat the purpose of the photos in the first place but I guess it's all about personal preservience. Luckily for me, the garage didn't even bother to charge me as they said it was only minor and wasn't even an hour labour, which was very generous of them! I did however get them a box of Celebrations and a case of beer to say thanks.

Lightcliffe Skoda - Warrington
Apologies if it wasn't clear. So I always photograph the outside of my car before I drop it off for servicing/MOT/whatever just incase any new damage appears. Always done it as a precaution. So when I got the car back and saw the new damage, I informed Warrington about it and at first they didn't believe me. So showed them the photos as proof (this was on the day of collecting the car) and they said they'd look into it and said they'd be in touch. A week went by and I heard nothing from them, so I contacted them and got told "We're still looking into what's happened, the guy you serviced your car isn't here/we've been very busy." but again they didn't contact me about it. I rang them up a few more times after that and got told the same excuse. I even took the car back on Saturday morning, the rep came out to have a look and just shrugged saying I'd have to leave it with them to look into. I even contacted Skoda Head Office regarding it, and they said it was up to the garage to sort out. After a month and a half of chasing them and getting nowhere, I just gave up through frustration and going in circles (rightly or wrongly). With regards to the dent, a local body shop popped it out in the end (turned up to ask about it, and they just did it there and then).

Lightcliffe Skoda - Warrington
I've used Warrington Skoda for both my cars, and I've had mixed results. The first was for a 1.6 TDI 11 plate Fabia which developed EGR valve problems and ended up going through 3 valves in the space of 9 months - Lightcliffe would only ever replace it and never seemed to find the fault that was causing them to clog up. At first, I found Lightcliffe very difficult to deal with when the car first went there (through the AA Garage cover, worth it's weight in gold) but the further 2 visits they were very helpful. Through the AA cover I never paid a penny for the work originally, and the Skoda warranty on parts/labour meant the other visits were free as well, no offer of a courtesy car though. Before all that, I got the same car serviced and MOT'd there and it came back to be with a nice dent (3/4cm long, 2cm wide) in the passenger wing, which I complained about to Lightcliffe and never got anywhere. Always take photos of the outside my car when I drop it off for servcing so showed them the dent wasn't there before. They just weren't interested. Took my Rapid there last year for it's MOT and service without issue, customer service was great but going elsewhere this year.

Remaps and insurance - A couple questions
Hi, I've recently had a Stage 1 remap on my car, which has taken the power from 86BHP to 130BHP. Given this is quite a serious jump in power: 1.) Are there any brokers that specialise in insuring cars with these modifications? I've had a look at some standard ones and they only cover 25% increase in engine power. If so, who do people recommend? 2.) If you don't declare the remap, would the insurance company ever check if it had been remapped in the event of a claim? (I've notified them of previous modifications such as new Sat Nav and a towbar) I'm currently with Hastings Direct and was met with a confused representative when I phoned them up to enquire about the remap affecting my insurance. They didn't understand what I was going to do, which hasn't filled me with confidence. Thanks,

LED light upgrade - All bulbs
Hi, I'm looking to replace all the yellow interior bulbs in my Rapid, but I've never done this before (only ever swapped out a dud bulb in an old car) so I'm just asking if it's a straightforward swap? Naturally having a look on Superskoda for bulbs, but they seem a little pricey when compared to eBay and Halfords. Are the SuperSkoda bulbs worth the money? Thanks,

Headlight Bulb Upgrade from Yellow to White
Hi, Looking to replace my 14 plate Rapid Spaceback's yellow headlight bulbs with white ones. I'd ideally like to replace all the yellow ones (dipped beam, main beam, side lights and daytime running lights) but want to see if there are any brands/models to avoid. Which brands do people recommend? For example, seen these on Superskoda which seem a good buy but Halfords seem to offer a cheaper set: http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/RAPID/Rapid-MEGA-POWER-LED-position-light-bulbs-KI-R https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-bulbs/382-super-bright-led-car-bulb-halfords-advanced-twin-pack Has people found it to be a worthwhile change or could it just be a waste of money? Thanks,

Rapid Spaceback Project
Hi! So after purchasing a 1.2 TSI Rapid Spaceback in February of this year, I'm undertaking a little project on it to personalise it a tad. Nothing too drastic like an engine swap/lowering it just a few odds and sods to improve the car. The car is in amazing condition inside/out given it's a 14 plate. That said the alloys were refurbished by the dealership (Evans Halshaw) and the bonnet was re-sprayed as it had a large chip/dent in it on one of the crease lines on the drivers side. Very few stone chips on the front bumper too though it's just rolled over 40K miles. The car was factory standard when purchased - aside from the previous owner debadging the rear - so there's a few changes I want to make: - Replace the Swing Bluetooth unit with a newer/smarter system - Black the grille surround - Black the front and rear badges (may revert back depending how it looks). - Wind deflectors - Mudflaps - Deatchable towbar for a bike rack - Front bumper lip/splitter The car is also on 3 different tyres (front pair match, two odds on the rear) but they're all new so not an issue. Will either match the front pair (Davanti) or just replace all 4 before winter. Will post updates as I go along! Cheers,
