  1. Yeah man... I kinda cocked up the thread title, typically.. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/492161-this-ones-ours/ I've already drilled the turrets, used masking tape, fairy dust and prayer - not the latter, I'm not religious. I just need a smaller pair of hands to get under there, save me jacking it up.
  2. Nice.... looks great mate 😎 Got a k brace wating to go in mine (and waiting for swmbo to assist with bolting up the tt front brace), building up the courage to drill the holes. There was a set of black 17" spiders for £80 recently.. I'm sticking with the 16s or would have snapped them up.
  3. 4 weeks, without prior warning, is getting on for excessive imo.... My clutch journey starts next year..... can't wait (he said, sarcastically)
  4. Still need a new scuttle.. want a new expansion tank.. Not sure how to clean the alternator, they always look grim - buy a new one? Mr Muscle oven cleaner on the inlet manifold? Not into polishing, just not minging. Everything else can just get a wipe with groundnut oil. Catch can needs to move really too. I have a plan.
  5. Need to clean mine really... don't really have related issues but I'm working through everything... Want to investigate this recalibration thing, prefer doing things off the car... out in the road I get accosted by neighbours. They're elderly and can chat for ages.
  6. Didn't he rob himself by refusing to change tyres? Great drive up to that point, I prefer him to Russell (nowt against George, just like Lando)
  7. Had to clean the maf (fluctuating revs on idle) so I figured a little sprucing would be OK too....
  8. I'll plug mine in, see what gives.. replaced the battery the other day.. the missus' Mk2 threw codes after disconnecting the battery, just had to drive the thing to get rid of them.
  9. Me too mate... Yours is smart as flip. Once it's finished and tidied it'll get properly cleaned.. Need a new expansion tank and want to get rid of the bloody stay.. Hydraulic lifters are so much nicer.
  10. Will this even fit when I do the fmic...
  11. I can sort of tackle some of this now... As well as Bowders guides on here, also have a read of this https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/diy-ultimate-sai-n249-pcv-evap-delete.4893472/ (but use Bowders) I did all mine over 3 days. It was too hot to do it in one hit and I did cop a bit of sunstroke... but you could do it in a day. Some of it overlaps a bit but you can work your way through SAI, then N-valves, then EVAP. You do bolt and unbolt a few things - well, I did. I was head scratching a bit until I had my hands on it, the SAI pump won't come out until you undo the bracket that's holds it up. I had, to hand, 2 metres of 19mm hose for the pcv and a catch can. 20 x 20-32mm jubilee clips (there was a few over) 1 tee, 2 elbows for the above https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222973159534?var=521778370377 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222973159534?var=521778370378 ( 1m 13mm hose 1m 8mm hose and some clips for this too. 1m 3mm vacuum tubing - to connect the DV to the inlet manifold. New dipstick tube. One of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203291533297 (coolant flange, the CTS sits in it) There's an elbow under the inlet manifold - part #06A103213F you'll need an o-ring if it doesn't come with it (I also bought a new clip) A few holes will need plugging up... 1 in the TIP, 10mm bolt for that iirc and 2 need capping off out of the inlet manifold - underneath... I've just jammed some pipe on there and stuck a bolt in for now. I want to run a boost gauge from one of them. Oh... plugging up the hole on the airbox too... that's a big hole. I siliconed a piece of acrylic over it from the inside - there's probably a picture on my thread.. Think most confusing, for me, was that I expected everything to be at the front of the engine and it wasn't. Once I found everything it wasn't too bad.
  12. Good chance, yes. I'd probably change CTS anyway... the o-rings squish, they leak and stuff.. (plus, in my old pd130 Golf, the CTS used to really affect performance - there was an unidentifiable coolant leak that dripped onto it, changed 3 in a year) When I was doing all the deletes recently I didn't even touch it and it started leaking, the bugger... turns out it was similar price (and quicker) to get a Febi sensor from Amazon than it was to get a new clip and o-ring.
  13. It should just sit at 90 regardless... right there, the whole time. CTS is the cheapest part (genuine thermostat from the dealer is about £80 iirc - cheapest (genuine) I've found is circa £50 - I ain't paying it). The combi thing is odd... Ken's correct, of course.. but, Ive found, it tends to get used for the Mk1 more than later models. Saab estates get called wagons, there's others... There's folk on facebook will pull you up if you use combi... combi? you mean estate? they're funny.
  14. Right or wrong, I tend to clear codes just in case they're historic and see what comes back. Does your temp gauge sit at 90 degrees? CTS is easy, 2 minute job.. Got mine from Amazon (wanted it next day) Febi 32510 £6.50
  15. No mate.. they're brick built bungalows. 1920's built. The council have clad them in some weird (but very effective) cladding.
  16. It's in the plan.... never really tarted an engine bay up before.
  17. Really thought spares would be easier to come by. We need a black magic tailgate for our combi, if I'd known it would be such a pita to find I may have walked away from the car. Definitely something about the mk1 that's right though... been years since I've enjoyed a car this much.
  18. mainly talking about the mk1 petrol cars but I guess it'd apply equally to others. Wondering if anyone knows, or has a rough idea, of temperatures reached inside the airbox of a petrol car. At running temps.. When cruising on the open road Sat idling for 15mins (after being thoroughly warmed up) Or, failing that, is there a (rough) temperature when power really starts to be affected?
  19. Air feed implanted.. So pleased the headlight didn't have to be removed.. I've been getting some stick (elsewhere on the 'net and because of 2 decades of preaching against cone filters) about heat soak so I've dangled a wireless thermometer in there for s**ts and giggles Whether it'll work is anyone's guess. Not really fussed.. Still looks OE (and tatty-ish) from the front
  20. I'd have to hit them pretty hard to get water through that cone but I hear ya... last one I did I took from under the bumper of a V6 Cavalier - blimey that was about 20 year ago. 😲 Drilled the holes for the strut brace too, forgot to get pics - the rustoleum is just curing before I fit it. And I have a K-brace to go in too. And the list of parts still to buy just keeps getting longer (and nobody wants to give me a job).. coil packs next I think. They don't match and my idling's just a little uneven.
  21. More things have happened... I contacted Rtech about pre Stage2 checks/upgrades and tried to get one of their CAIs, as advertised on their site. They don't do them any more but suggested a Ramair kit. Ramair it is then I'm also working out the bumper fed cold air feed but still want to maintain the original look... Not noticed an increase in induction noise but if I drive gentle there is a lazy whoosh..
  22. Well.. I've been warned against fully polybushing the front of my Mk1 (and my Mk4 Golf before it) because of the overly harsh ride.. I replaced all mine with quality bushes (Lemforder, I think Meyle are decent too - I'm sure there are others) and the solid rear wishbone bush off the TT is recommended - did that on my Mk4 but didn't on the vRS. Iirc there are a couple worth doing but I don't remember which.. Visit the projects section for Dean's car(s?), Bowders, Yellowvrs (I think).. There's others.. Major work in them all... And the how2s are excellent too...
  23. Welcome mate... Car looks tidy.. 😎 I think we may have differing opinions on what constitutes not a lot of money.. Full polybush and coilovers ain't arf gonna make it a harsh ride.. Good luck with it, look forward to updates 👊
  24. Took me 3 days this week (not full days, about 15 hours total... the blistering heat done me in) to get all the mods/deletes done. But done they are. The catch can piping is interfering a little with the MAF plug so I'd like to deal with that. And I hate all those clips but I guess they're a necessary evil. Bit of modding of the engine cover and that'll go back on.
