  1. Is it the Mk4 Golf R32 ARB that's an upgrade to the stock mk1 vRS one?
  2. Picked up the vRS yesterday and, of course, it's got an issue (wasn't there when I test drove it, can't be reset so I believe the seller didn't know - we negotiated a discount) 01435 - Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) 012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit Found the method to test whether it's fuse, brake switch or ABS unit. Measuring block 5 on the ABS unit is showing 214bar. So the ABS unit is fubar (honestly thought if it was going to fail it would have done so before 13 years and 144k).. 2 questions. Is it safe to drive until we can get it booked in? Anyone recommend a VAG specialist in Suffolk?

I was under the impression they could be removed via software, no physical touching required... seems that may not be the case - I dunno, never had a DPF'd car before.

You are quite correct (same applies to EGR and catalytic converter) It'll be mapped out, though, not physically altered or removed in any way - as will the EGR.

It's standard currently but the inevitable remap will include egr and dpf deletes.

    Will this have a dpf?
  7. Thoroughly enjoyed the race... don't usually get to watch live.

I know nothing of these things... Seen earlier mk2s (or late mk1s?) and they have bump strips on the bumpers... That's why I figured it was a face-lift. Makes no odds, really, but it is nice to know what it is.. Ta. In addition. Missus needed a derv, we'd been looking at Saab 93s, Audi A3s and these. This came up within budget. Probably have to have the cambelt done, no record of it in the (minimal) history.
  9. The elderly carriage requirement is no more so it looks like Koni Str.t kit... Discs and pads could do with replacing too, no bargains to be had anywhere.
  10. Picking this up on Wednesday.. More tidying than a project, this would be a 1Z5, mk2 face-lift??
  11. Say no to Saab, hello another Skoda (pick this up on Wednesday)
  12. They're what I put in the front doors and I'm not impressed, not even a little. I think a sub is the only practical way forward. And I hate doing wiring so it'll have to wait, or maybe I'll just live with the lacklustre, tinny, sound.
  13. Can't be doing with coilovers.. Car's going to have elderly folk in it a few times a week and I don't really want their false teeth to be rattled out.. Was it a definite improvement over stock?
  14. Looking increasingly like we'll be needing new suspension sooner rather than later. Originally planned to put the Koni str/H&R kit on it but have read that the H&R springs are a bit harsh and that's no good. Anyone got alternatives that are an improvement without the harshness?
  15. We need another car and we're floundering (Saab 93 TTiD is a big contender but we're looking at other marques too).. The requirements are: £3k budget, firm. 50+mpg (so diesel) Reliable, as few mechanical quirks as possible. Decent performance (not blistering but quick enough to be fun) It's for my partner to use for work.. we'll keep up with maintenance but it's not going to have an easy life (she's a security guard on building sites, pretty much - it'll get driven, daily, on haul roads all year round) Any suggestions?
  16. I also found genuine badges for the rear, tend to debadge the back but I'm trying to keep it OE-ish looking...
  17. I like that Mercedes aren't having all their own way now but thought that last race was a bit boring.. Good to see Lando Norris coming up on the grid too...
  18. Thanks.. ordered one. Almost 3 month estimated delivery though... I'll have long forgotten I'd ordered it by then .
  19. Indicators replaced with pattern ones.. needed doing, the nearside had things growing in it. New wiper blades, proper ones this time.. Needs badges front and back and new plates made.. among a seemingly ever increasing list of other bits..
  20. Well.. I have the DV (off ebay) but the N75 is still eluding me
  21. This, of course, is the ideal solution... but I reckon every driver does, or has, exceeded the speed limit. Sometimes without realising it's crept up. A warning could be useful if only as a reminder to pay closer attention...
  22. Never been asked.. but, if I were, they came with the car.
  23. The BS mark and makers details are not checked at mot, despite them being a legal requirement. They'll pick up on badges, backgrounds, fonts and spacing. That's about all.
  24. Not convinced it's the issue but I'll get it welded anyway..
  25. Kirsty reported that the clutch pedal stuck on the floor last night (she pulled it back and it's been fine).. As a preventative I'm getting the welding done to strengthen it... Progress is slow.....
