BAM inlet manifold on the AUQ?
I have searched and found snippets here and there, mostly in old threads (that I'm a bit wary of bumping).. When fitting the BAM inlet manifold to the AUQ, is it just the manifold that's needed or are any ancillaries require too? Anything else to consider? Different pipework perhaps? My inlet is grim looking and I wanted to clean it up, if I can achieve that and make an improvement at the same time everyone's happy (well, I'm happy - and that's what's important)

MK1 vRS - Stage 2 R-Tech Tuned
Excellent thread (and stunning car).. thanks for sharing the progress I need to do all the deletes on mine soon just the parts list is confusing.. I've had the SAI deleted via remap so shouldn't need any resistors (I think).. First up is going to be the PCV delete I think.. Re: catch can - I done a PCV delete on a PD130 Mk4 Golf and in 2 years there was about 5ml of oil in it.

Back to factory ecu map?
Had an ex plod V6 Cavalier. Compared to the other V6 Cav I had at the time the ex plod one was a lot quicker, in spite of being heavier, (but no creature comforts).

Back to factory ecu map?
I've had 2 stage 1 maps (1 on an old diesel pd Golf and one on our current Mk1 vRS) both done by post. The first one, by Liam @ FADR, was problem free.. paid him the money, he sent an ecu, swap the ecu, Bob's your others brother. The one on the vRS was done by a chap called Adam off a forum.. I've known him, via the forum, a few years and he's apparently quite well known - been doing this years. I sent him an ecu I'd bought, he stuck a map on it and returned it. That chucked up an eml for ABS.. sent it back to him, he re-re-mapped it and it's perfect now. There's also a chap called Mark Bowdery on Facebook, seems he's quite good at this too. Might have a chat with him.. If I were going stage 2 I'd be taking it for a custom map (probably Nick at RTech tbh).. don't really see any need for stage 1 on an otherwise stock engine.

Quick PCV delete (on the vRS) question.
Think I have almost everything now.. It's just blanking plugs I'm not sure of.. Are they all to plug 19mm holes? How many do I need? I'd normally use bolts but they usually end up looking a bit bodged, is there a better (cleaner, tidier) option?

Thanks Mr. Skinny.. my biggest thing at the moment is the parts list and the price of oil/fuel hose (I did the PCV delete on a pd130 engined Golf and don't remember 19mm hose being £7 a metre). I'm guessing I don't need resistors to fool the ecu now the SIA has ben mapped out - even though I've already bought them. It's just a confidence thing, I never back me.

Garage couldn't book me in til the 23rd.. Bit of a bummer, it's all doable by us we just don't have the space (and time's in short supply too) Just starting to get the parts together for a PCV, EVAP and SAI delete (the latter 2 have been software deleted by the remap) - I have zero confidence for this so will be seeking guidance (supervision) from a chap who I think knows what he's doing..

Thoughts on this car?
And those black 17" spiders make me want a set

Thoughts on this car?
I found the ASZ much easier to work on than the AUQ in the vrs. Seemed a lot less complicated.. The (much) better mpg was easier to live with too.

Thoughts on this car?
If that's the ASZ it's an awesome engine. Subject to a good look over, test drive etc I'd have no issue buying that.

Rob's Mk1 VRS Combi
Excellent stuff.... I've had my sai deleted but haven't removed it yet, the pcv is on the hitlist too. I prefer the mk1 vrs seats to mk4 golf leather (we had a mk4 before this that I fitted a leather interior to), iirc the fronts should be a straight swap - not sure about the rears. We still need a glovebox latch, ours is bodged... Not really worth buying a whole glovebox for. If things pan out I'm looking at offloading ours and getting a scooby next year but it's going to be hard to let go... Something really nice about the mk1 - it's been a while since I've liked a car so much.

Blue car cambelt and service
Can I get a terraclean (or similar) to do that for me? I recently ish did inlet and egr cleans on a passat and golf 4 (both pd130s) and hated it. The passat was a little more fun since I used fire to burn all the rubbish out (and who doesn't like playing with fire eh?) She's in her 40s (ex mechanic) with back and hip issues, I'm mid 50s with a knackered elbow and back problems.. I was thinking of getting a decent creeper, see if that would help..

Blue car cambelt and service
I'd guess its original... Looks an easy DIY job (we're ok at spannering, just had to ease off due to getting older and more informer)..

Blue car cambelt and service
Thanks mate.. Another quickie, if I may.. Does yours pull all the way to the red line? This car goes flat at 3500rpm and we see no reason why.. It's supposed to have been remapped so we're thinking it may be that (in the absence of an obvious alternative)..

Bio Fuel - Effect on fuel economy
Tesco Momentum 99 is an E5 fuel. AFAIK only Esso super (whatever they call it) has no ethanol

Blue car cambelt and service
Took the derv vRS to the garage for oil & filter, fuel filter and cambelt /water pump (we'd already done the air and cabin filters) Prior to taking it in, power had dropped off at 3500rpm and we didn't know why.. This may now be resolved, at least partially, which is nice. Swmbo says it feels like an entirely different car. Since we had no history, had the cambelt and water pump done too. Meknic said the belt didn't look that old but a tensioner bolt was very loose - and that it wasn't the first time he'd encountered this. A lucky escape?? Anyone else heard of this with the BMN engine? Also, what we thought may have been a wheel bearing on its way out is more likely to be a deformed tyre. Still got the abs module to sort - it's going to have to wait a bit.

Bio Fuel - Effect on fuel economy
My apologies, it was someone else not you. I don't play silly games.... pal. There is minimal risk of not knowing. The fuel is being sold now and has been for some weeks, compatibility checkers are easily found.

Bio Fuel - Effect on fuel economy
Be as pedantic as you like: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/e10-petrol-explained During summer 2021, the standard (95 octane) petrol grade in Great Britain will become E10. In Northern Ireland, this will happen in early 2022. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/fuelling-a-greener-future-e10-petrol-set-for-september-2021-launch E10 fuel – an eco-friendly blend of petrol and ethanol that could cut transport CO2 emissions by 750,000 tonnes a year – to be available by September 2021. Tesco has been supplying it for weeks already... and, also contrary to your claim, pre 2011 will not necessarily be affected. I have 2 petrol cars that are pre-2011 and neither are affected. This is easily checked by following the compatibility checkers that are, seemingly, all over the place.

Bio Fuel - Effect on fuel economy
Not really. Given the amount of petrol stations in the UK, expecting them to switch over on a specific date would be madness. The gov website states by September and some have already switched..
-
Bio Fuel - Effect on fuel economy
Can't see where it says E10 cannot be bought before September. What I've read indicates it will become available through Summer 2021.
