  1. Loving the updates on your new 280. Did they not have to stop putting the engine covers on because they were coming loose and melting causing a fire risk, certainly they were on MkVIII Golf GTI and R - their part number is very slightly different, so perhaps the one with suffix "L" has solved the issue - I believe there was a recall where dealers were told to take the cover off - and bin it! There's an article here - part number quoted as having the issue was 06Q-103-925-K https://www.autoevolution.com/news/vw-recalls-golf-gti-and-golf-r-because-the-engine-cover-may-come-loose-and-melt-184792.html I've actually invested in a Mk7 Golf R engine cover for my 280 - complete with "R" logo - will post a pic when I get a chance.
  2. Sorry to revive an old thread, but I've an All-in warranty / service package which represents excellent value - lasts until May next year - however that's just 3 weeks after my Superb turns 6 years old - which is the cut-off for a car being eligible - at the start of the All-in period. So the cheeky question is, am I within my rights to terminate the All-in warranty slightly early (even if I still have to pay the full balance) and then start a new All-in 2-year warranty just before the car turns 6 years old? Sadly I'm suspecting not as I'd be breaching my side of the contract - but would welcome your views. The relevant bits in the Ts & Cs seem to be: Contract period Means the period shown on your Confirmation of Cover between your start date and end date. Cancellation rights You have the right to cancel the agreement within 14 days without giving any reason. The cancellation period will expire after 14 days from the start date in your Confirmation of Cover. To exercise the right to cancel, you must inform Volkswagen Financial Services (UK) Limited (‘Volkswagen Financial Services’) of your decision to cancel your agreement by clear statement (e.g. a letter sent by post or e-mail) or contact Volkswagen Financial Services by phone on 0370 010 2022. You can use a copy of the model cancellation form, but it is not obligatory. Alternatively, write to Volkswagen Financial Services by email [email protected] and include your full name, address and policy number. To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired. Your right to cancel is lost once a performance of the services is expressly requested and begins during the 14 day cancellation period. For the avoidance of doubt, if you cancel this agreement all aspects of the All-in plan including the servicing/MOT and roadside assistance will also be cancelled and you will no longer benefit from any aspect of the agreement.
  3. Very happy with my MTEC grooved front discs fitted in March - MTEC1807 - black coating so the centre hub doesn’t rust. I paired with Ate Ceramic pads from Autodoc, which were slightly more expensive but literally zero brake dust on my wheels now. Certainly stops well, and relatively straightforward to fit. https://www.mtecbrakes.com/brake-discs/volkswagen/golf-mk7-2012/golf-2-0-r-12-2016
  4. I used to use these guys all the time, but I'm not sure whether they ship packages over 2kg to the UK any more. I have a full set of rubber mats, the mat over the rear transmission tunnel, and a really comfy alcantara front middle armrest cover with stitching to match my sportline seats. http://www.kopacek.com/Skoda/SUPERB-III/Floor-mats-Carpets/
  5. Concur with Carlston - 245/45 18s been great on mine - Michelin Cross Climate+ fitted over a year ago - I’ve found them great in wet, snow, and dry so kept them on through last Summer - I think these are now superseded by Cross Climate 2. I invested in an OE set of 18” wheels after damaging one of my original 19s on a low kerb.
  6. It is on Kopacek for about 8 Euro. My car isn’t close by or I’d check the part number for you One thing to watch with the funnel possibly specifically on the 280 is that the washer tank is set quite high against the bonnet, and at a slight angle, somewhat negating the benefit of the funnel design. http://www.kopacek.com/Skoda/SUPERB-III/Superb-III-genuine-Skoda-Integrated-funnel-in-the-lid-of-the-windscreen-washer-tank
  7. To which the answer was yes and yes? Or was it really yes and no 😉
  8. Couple of questions, Have these ones got the fan type spray pattern? Does anyone know if models below L&K have the electrical feed for the heater pre-installed? Cheers
  9. I suppose the problem is, what do you trim it with? I hear a lot of leather clad wheels are subject to peeling because of contact with sanitiser. Don’t know whether that’s true of alcantara. This is the video I originally saw the wheel on - some nice drone work.
  10. The £230 I paid doesn’t seem too bad considering what you’d fork out for a genuine BMW Alcantara wheel! I’ve read that with high use, alcantara can go flat, but can also be revived by cleaning with appropriate products and a stiff brush. But mine still absolutely fine after a year - only about 7,000 miles though.
  11. A really comprehensive response from Carlston as ever. Your research is invaluable, and helped me to the right wheel and tyre choice on my Superb last year. Now very happily running 245/45/18 Michelin Cross Climate Plus on 18" Zenith in Platinum (Matt Grey Gun-metal)
  12. The dealer I bought my used 280 from seemed similarly surprised when I asked them if it was a belt or chain - "all Skodas are fitted with belts now" he said. I asked him to double-check, at which point a technician appeared and explained that the EA888 was in fact a chain! Hoping mine also has this "port fuel injection", cracking car so far. Signed up for Skoda All-In 2yr plan as the Genuine extended warranty was going to be more than the cost of this on its own - you also get 1 x major and 1 x minor service, 2 x MOTs free and 2yrs extended Skoda warranty for just over £30 per month. Dealer even collected and delivered my car from the house for the service! I've had the major under the scheme already - it included a spark plug change, brake fluid, cabin filter and obv oil and filter. I was originally quoted £325 for the service alone (inc spark plugs) so the scheme is going to save me quite a lot.
  13. Yes, although the pic isn’t very clear, as long as you order the one with DSG, it should come with paddles. I only knew the alcantara version existed because there was one fitted to a Superb being reviewed a while back on Bob Flavins YouTube channel in Ireland. Funnily enough, the local Skoda parts guy said he couldn’t see any historic uk orders for the part, with the exception of a dealer in Ireland, so possibly the same one...he wasn’t convinced it would arrive even. The parts reference seems to suggest that the same wheel also fits variants of Octavia and even Fabia. Came from Czech in about 3 weeks, hasn’t worn noticeably in the year it’s been on, keeps a steady temperature so pleasant in the winter. I’ll try to remember to post some pics.
  14. How about this one in alcantara! Says suitable to 2018 - not sure about after that though - certainly fits my 2017 nicely. Keeping my leather one as spare so sadly can't do a deal. Part Number: 565064241AGCW https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/products/skoda-three-spoke-sports-steering-wheel-alcantara
  15. Looks really nice - I’ve been lurking around here with my 2017 280 Sportline. Not posting much but gathering a wealth of info from the forum- thanks everyone. Had mine for just over a year now and still loving it. On the wheels front I managed to damage one of my tyres on the original 19” on a drain grate very soon after getting the car, ended up swapping out to 18” all round and have felt a lot less nervous given the state of our potholed roads ever since.
  16. My MY 2016 190 diesel estate had exactly the same issue on P7s (L&K on 235/45 18), but a switch to Hankooks up front mainly fixed it. My current Sportline is on All Season Michelin’s, 245/45 18 - tyre is just proud of the rim to give some protection. Mine is on genuine “platinum” Zenith 18” instead of the factory 19s with 235/40.
  17. Looking really nice, all the same sort of prep we did before letting the kids anywhere near. Those genuine rubber mats are particularly hard wearing, kept them from my first Superb, so over 4 years and no sign of wear. Don’t forget to get a genuine warning triangle if you haven’t already got one, very cheap from Superskoda and usually missing from the handy little stowage compartment. I’ve got black badges and letters to do on mine, as soon as it gets above 15degrees. Mines pre-facelift, so silver lettering. Going to do away with “Skoda” lettering on the left, and put Superb there, with 4x4 at the same height on the right, as per facelift. Was also hoping to get an alcantara front centre armrest cover with white stitching, but they are out of stock, and I can’t find anywhere else that does them 😢
  18. I have that wheel too Mario, waiting to be fitted. I’m just trying to work out whether I need to disconnect the battery to do it? I have the correct spline socket and replacement nut to do it. Other concern is if you don’t disconnect the battery, how do you stop the horn sounding when you clip the airbag back in? Should be a lot warmer than the standard leather wheel on these cold winter mornings though.
  19. At least they might not corrode as badly as the standard wheel caps
  20. I have Park Assist on my 2017 Sportline, not sure what it cost as an option when new but would’ve preferred the original owner to have specified Lane Assist or Blind spot monitoring instead. Don’t know whether having it makes that easier to retro-fit those two, but I’m not sure whether I have the required front camera. Even heated seats would’ve been more useful (is -7 degrees out there tonight) but they’re not really essential with the alcantara seats. Used Park Assist once in a year of ownership. Is a bit of a gimmick - merrily twirling the steering wheel by itself.
  21. "rear-round" should've been "year-round", but can't seem to find the option to edit a post
  22. From my own research I would agree with the advice above, and have just fitted 4 x Michelin Cross Climate+ to my 280. I also invested in some 18" Zenith "Platinum" (Grey) wheels for Winter, but may end up keeping them on rear-round. Early days but definitely noticeably quieter than the Pirelli P7s on the 19s, will report back on all round performance in due course. K***-F** tyres in the UK have 15% off these at the moment plus some free headphones, that was the best deal I could find. Pics to follow
  23. I was lucky enough to find a 2017 Skoda approved Sportline hatch with DCC just pre-lockdown at a lot less than that money - although with 35,000 miles. Very glad of both the DCC and 4x4 after having previously leased a 2016 L&K Diesel estate. The previous car used to spin the front wheels at the slightest sniff of damp road surfaces. I knew I wanted DCC, and if you're in the mood it transforms a comfortable cruiser into a real corner eater, honestly I've been driving for more than 30 years had VWs, BMW, Volvo, Fords, even ordered one of the first Chrysler 300Cs in the UK, this is without doubt the best car I've ever owned! Only thing missing in my opinion is a more melodic engine sound, but that's just a sign of the times I suppose. When new, there's a real dilemma on the options lists - if you're leasing, you'll pay handsomely for each non-standard option, usually the full cost over your lease period, so if DCC was say £750, the first owner would pay £250 per year on their 3 year lease. I optioned the variable boot floor on my previous estate, that was well worthwhile in the end. So when you're looking at used, there's generally either DCC or Canton, or Heated Seats or Sunroof, but rarely all of them. On the Canton front, my Sportline doesn't have it, the L&K did, but once you've tweaked the sound settings it's not a disaster. Bonus is that you get some decent large storage bins either side of the boot where the subwoofer would've been - ideal for all those wine / beer / spirits bottles to be kept upright The other problem is avoiding an original sale price of over £40k, as you'll then be in the higher VED bracket until the car is over 5 years old. Good luck with the search.
  24. Thanks. Looks great! Especially the black on white. Is the round badge one of the ones from Superskoda - they're advertised as front only, but I've read some say that they fit the bootlid fine too. You say the letters were easy - did you just do one at a time or peel them all off together. Sorry for all the questions! Cheers
