  1. Nice guide, I think you’re missing the Alcantara covered flat bottom wheel, which comes with paddles. Part no. 565064241A GCW I believe. Had one fitted to mine for a few years, needs a decent clean and brush from time to time, but still looks great.
  2. Hi, I like to give an update when I get to the bottom of an issue in case it's of use to anyone else. The intermittent issue I've been having was resolved after referring to a Golf R 7.5 forum where it was suggested that a common issue is the Haldex controller becoming damaged by water ingress, and a repair service being offered by Haldex Repairs UK. Sure enough, after I'd started off by replacing ABS wheel sensors (cheap and very easily done) but that didn't work, I carefully removed the Haldex controller, 2 10mm bolts (also T30 torx), the bottom one a little tricky due to proximity to the propshaft. 2 electrical connectors at the top with the traditional VW push clip setup. Sent it off by post Friday afternoon, received back repaired Tuesday morning, fitted it today and fingers crossed all the warnings have gone 😄 If anyone else is doing this on the drive, the smaller cable connector, which I think goes to the Haldex pump, has 2 wires covered in braid which has disintegrated on mine and turns to dust which falls directly into your eyes! So best to wear goggles - I re-covered the wires with loom tape, not sure if it gets hot up there - it's miles away from the exhaust, but something has led to the braid disintegrating.
  3. I'm back - as I said, I had Good Year Vector 4-seasons on my Golf GTD Estate which has virtually the same chassis as the Skoda, albeit slightly more firmly sprung. On both the Audi and the VW I like the Goodyears. Good grip in wet and dry, great in the rare snowy conditions we have, even here in Scotland. The only reason I didn't go for them on the Skoda was that I already had 2 Michelin Cross Climate+ with plenty of wear left and prefer to have the same tyre brand all round if possible.
  4. I have Vector 4-seasons Gen 3 fitted to my 2003 A4 Avant quattro 3.0 petrol, and find them great even in Summer weather, prior to that I briefly owned a Golf GTD with the same tyres, that led me to choose them for the Audi. Really nice all-round. On the Superb, I swapped out the 19s shortly after I bought it, having had a few close calls with kerbs and potholes, I now run Skoda Zenith 18s with 245 tyres, that one had a full set of Cross climate+ in 2020, and I've only just had to replace two for Cross climate 2 a few weeks ago - they wear really well. The Goodyears are a little bit cheaper though, and I probably drive my Audi a bit harder than the Skoda.
  5. Thanks Numskull, how do I tell which sensor it is, will I see visually, or better to just replace all 4?
  6. Fault codes I'm getting are: Gateway U011400 Lost communication with four wheel drive clutch control module - Static Brakes U112100 Databus missing - Static Engine U112300 Databus error value received - Static ACC U112300 Databus error value received - Static ACC U112200 Databus implausible message - Static The only other error is: Central Electrics B126301 - Trunk lid unlock activation - Intermittent
  7. Yes, coded it to the new Yuasa with OBD11 - I went with an EFB battery as that type had been fitted from new.
  8. I didn't see any specific errors with ABS but I'm sure it also disables ESP. It's weird that it can reset itself when restarting, surely if an ABS sensor is broken or a wire is loose it wouldn't be able to clear itself?
  9. After a number of years pretty much trouble free with my 280, I have an intermittent issue which started a couple of weeks ago. When turning on the ignition I get notifications that ACC is unavailable, Park Pilot is unavailable, the traction control warning light comes on and TPMS is unavailable. If I drive a few miles down the road, switch off and back on again the lights usually reset and it's all ok. I replaced the battery about 3 months ago so I can't think that will be the problem. I've run a diagnostic check with OBD11 which throws up some codes related to Comms and the Haldex system, but because it is intermittent I just wondered whether anyone else has had a similar issue?
  10. B8s are the same damping as B6, but with a shorter rod - specifically for lowered or factory “sports” suspension. If I recall its about 30mm or so shorter on B8 vs the B6.
  11. Loving the updates on your new 280. Did they not have to stop putting the engine covers on because they were coming loose and melting causing a fire risk, certainly they were on MkVIII Golf GTI and R - their part number is very slightly different, so perhaps the one with suffix "L" has solved the issue - I believe there was a recall where dealers were told to take the cover off - and bin it! There's an article here - part number quoted as having the issue was 06Q-103-925-K https://www.autoevolution.com/news/vw-recalls-golf-gti-and-golf-r-because-the-engine-cover-may-come-loose-and-melt-184792.html I've actually invested in a Mk7 Golf R engine cover for my 280 - complete with "R" logo - will post a pic when I get a chance.
  12. Sorry to revive an old thread, but I've an All-in warranty / service package which represents excellent value - lasts until May next year - however that's just 3 weeks after my Superb turns 6 years old - which is the cut-off for a car being eligible - at the start of the All-in period. So the cheeky question is, am I within my rights to terminate the All-in warranty slightly early (even if I still have to pay the full balance) and then start a new All-in 2-year warranty just before the car turns 6 years old? Sadly I'm suspecting not as I'd be breaching my side of the contract - but would welcome your views. The relevant bits in the Ts & Cs seem to be: Contract period Means the period shown on your Confirmation of Cover between your start date and end date. Cancellation rights You have the right to cancel the agreement within 14 days without giving any reason. The cancellation period will expire after 14 days from the start date in your Confirmation of Cover. To exercise the right to cancel, you must inform Volkswagen Financial Services (UK) Limited (‘Volkswagen Financial Services’) of your decision to cancel your agreement by clear statement (e.g. a letter sent by post or e-mail) or contact Volkswagen Financial Services by phone on 0370 010 2022. You can use a copy of the model cancellation form, but it is not obligatory. Alternatively, write to Volkswagen Financial Services by email [email protected] and include your full name, address and policy number. To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired. Your right to cancel is lost once a performance of the services is expressly requested and begins during the 14 day cancellation period. For the avoidance of doubt, if you cancel this agreement all aspects of the All-in plan including the servicing/MOT and roadside assistance will also be cancelled and you will no longer benefit from any aspect of the agreement.
  13. Very happy with my MTEC grooved front discs fitted in March - MTEC1807 - black coating so the centre hub doesn’t rust. I paired with Ate Ceramic pads from Autodoc, which were slightly more expensive but literally zero brake dust on my wheels now. Certainly stops well, and relatively straightforward to fit. https://www.mtecbrakes.com/brake-discs/volkswagen/golf-mk7-2012/golf-2-0-r-12-2016
  14. I used to use these guys all the time, but I'm not sure whether they ship packages over 2kg to the UK any more. I have a full set of rubber mats, the mat over the rear transmission tunnel, and a really comfy alcantara front middle armrest cover with stitching to match my sportline seats. http://www.kopacek.com/Skoda/SUPERB-III/Floor-mats-Carpets/
  15. Concur with Carlston - 245/45 18s been great on mine - Michelin Cross Climate+ fitted over a year ago - I’ve found them great in wet, snow, and dry so kept them on through last Summer - I think these are now superseded by Cross Climate 2. I invested in an OE set of 18” wheels after damaging one of my original 19s on a low kerb.
  16. It is on Kopacek for about 8 Euro. My car isn’t close by or I’d check the part number for you One thing to watch with the funnel possibly specifically on the 280 is that the washer tank is set quite high against the bonnet, and at a slight angle, somewhat negating the benefit of the funnel design. http://www.kopacek.com/Skoda/SUPERB-III/Superb-III-genuine-Skoda-Integrated-funnel-in-the-lid-of-the-windscreen-washer-tank
  17. To which the answer was yes and yes? Or was it really yes and no 😉
  18. Couple of questions, Have these ones got the fan type spray pattern? Does anyone know if models below L&K have the electrical feed for the heater pre-installed? Cheers
  19. I suppose the problem is, what do you trim it with? I hear a lot of leather clad wheels are subject to peeling because of contact with sanitiser. Don’t know whether that’s true of alcantara. This is the video I originally saw the wheel on - some nice drone work.
  20. The £230 I paid doesn’t seem too bad considering what you’d fork out for a genuine BMW Alcantara wheel! I’ve read that with high use, alcantara can go flat, but can also be revived by cleaning with appropriate products and a stiff brush. But mine still absolutely fine after a year - only about 7,000 miles though.
  21. A really comprehensive response from Carlston as ever. Your research is invaluable, and helped me to the right wheel and tyre choice on my Superb last year. Now very happily running 245/45/18 Michelin Cross Climate Plus on 18" Zenith in Platinum (Matt Grey Gun-metal)
  22. The dealer I bought my used 280 from seemed similarly surprised when I asked them if it was a belt or chain - "all Skodas are fitted with belts now" he said. I asked him to double-check, at which point a technician appeared and explained that the EA888 was in fact a chain! Hoping mine also has this "port fuel injection", cracking car so far. Signed up for Skoda All-In 2yr plan as the Genuine extended warranty was going to be more than the cost of this on its own - you also get 1 x major and 1 x minor service, 2 x MOTs free and 2yrs extended Skoda warranty for just over £30 per month. Dealer even collected and delivered my car from the house for the service! I've had the major under the scheme already - it included a spark plug change, brake fluid, cabin filter and obv oil and filter. I was originally quoted £325 for the service alone (inc spark plugs) so the scheme is going to save me quite a lot.
  23. Yes, although the pic isn’t very clear, as long as you order the one with DSG, it should come with paddles. I only knew the alcantara version existed because there was one fitted to a Superb being reviewed a while back on Bob Flavins YouTube channel in Ireland. Funnily enough, the local Skoda parts guy said he couldn’t see any historic uk orders for the part, with the exception of a dealer in Ireland, so possibly the same one...he wasn’t convinced it would arrive even. The parts reference seems to suggest that the same wheel also fits variants of Octavia and even Fabia. Came from Czech in about 3 weeks, hasn’t worn noticeably in the year it’s been on, keeps a steady temperature so pleasant in the winter. I’ll try to remember to post some pics.
  24. How about this one in alcantara! Says suitable to 2018 - not sure about after that though - certainly fits my 2017 nicely. Keeping my leather one as spare so sadly can't do a deal.
