  1. Hi, and welcome to Briskoda. I hope that you can find the answers that you are looking for. Good luck.
  2. Hi BigW2069, And thankyou for the information, and I am sure that there will be much interest. Soviet
  3. Hi Good old Soviet here, I am not able to beleive my eyes as there are suddenly so many cars for sale on the forum, and so I am wondering if they are recovered from a storm wrecked ship? But it is the most that I have ever seen here. Does anyone know why? No complaints, just the observation. Soviet (have booked my place in Kremlin wall):thumbdwn:
  4. Hi, is the VCR in the back room left switched on for all of the time? If it is being this, try turning it off to see if the lines on the front room TV go away. It is just t he idea. Soviet:rolleyes:
  5. Hi, I really don't think that the fault has any connection with the installation of the amplifier that you have done now. It really depends on what is causing the problem, but it is most likely to be bad soldering on the PCB, or the two plugs at the back of the panel could be dirty/bad contacts. Some people on the forum have soldered around the voltage regulator IC for the analogue stepper motors which is a five pinned device of type TLE4276G which is near to the edge of the board, and under the speedometer side of it. I am afraid to date that a cure is by luck or judgment, as there doesn't seem to be a one cure fits all. With fuse 15 removed your panel will work for about 90% of the time, but you will have noticed that it does a zero reset each time. I am not sure what the testing regime is like in the Caribbean but in the UK we have the MOT ministry of transport test, and without the dials working it is not a failure, as long as the LED displays the correct mileage. But it is illegal to drive on the British mans road without Speedo working, which is rather strange. Try searching, dials, regulator, regulators, to learn all that is currently known. In the UK I think that a new dash pod sells for around £600 sterling. I hope that this is of some help, and if you find the cause of your particular problem then please be kind enough to share it with the forum Best of luck Soviet:thumbup:
  6. Hello and welcome to Briskoda! Please enjoy! Soviet
  7. Hi try typing the word instrument in to the search option at the top of the page, and this will enable you to read all that has been written to date about the fault. It is by no means a rare occurrence, unfortunately. Soviet
  8. Hi Musky, My son had the same thing with two months free Norton on his new laptop, and I think that this was referring to the anti virus bit first as this was disabled, with a request to take out anew contract after the two months. I took Norton off of his laptop as it interfered with every programme that he tried to run, and blocked every thing. I found to be the absolute nightmare. I also found that it had the habit of renewing without asking. I do not like Norton because it is not very user friendly. Lucky for me that I had still a contract with CA on my main PC which I am using for this message, and so it covers up to three PCs and so I loaded this on to my sons laptop. I found CA to be very good and also one of the cheapest, but when this one runs out I will be using one of the free versions that are available. As regards the anti spy and anti spam not so critical stuff, then he now relys on the windows XP bit only. Soviet junior downloads and plays a lot of games on his laptop, and he recently must have got hold of some bad software, as every time he used the wireless connection it would be disabled, and wipe out the IP address. Having a BT hub a collaborated with the Indian help desk to resolve the problem, which is free phone, and after 4 hours one evening we got the wireless working. But the next day on switching on the laptop the same problem occurred and the link could not be enabled, and I tried every thing that I know. So I backed up all the files, and wiped everything off and did a windows format type install, and then loaded all the drivers back on, and then put the wireless configuration back, and this has finally solved the problem. This was a bit time consuming, but there was really no alternative way to do this. Having said all this, CA anti-virus did not pick up what was causing the problem, or neither did windows defender, anti spam etc. So this is an interesting one, and I would like to hear if anyone else has ever experienced this problem of the wireless Ip address being disabled by malicious software. Regards Soviet:thumbup:
  9. Hi Glider, It is the richness of subject matter that makes the site so interesting, and one is having the choice to ignore the chit chat parts and only concentrate on the car problem parts. Or the Tech shed part, or what ever!!!!!!!!! I think that it would be so very insular and boring to have the site as car problems only, and one may just as well pick up the telephone to contact the dealer. The point that I am trying to make here is, that we have choice, and that if ever this was taken away, then I am sure that Briskoda membership would fall. No offense intended to your way of thinking of course. Soviet:thumbup:
  10. Hi Stu, Yes I suppose looking at it in this way, then I can understand. I still love the site, and it is down to Colin that has made it all possible. Retracting the sour grapes that I thought that I had, and seeing reason, now that I am understanding more. Regards Soviet:thumbup: If it ain't broke, don't try fixing it!
  11. Recently I had cause to send a personal message to the site owner, and despite seeing that he was on line, and has been since sending it, I did not receive any type of reply. Having been ill for a while, I had a few problems logging on to Briskoda, and so asked what I thought were relevant questions. Although being ill I did from time to time log on, and so I was just asking what could be causing the problem. Being a freedom member, at least I would have expected some sort of response, or even if I were an ordinary member. Obviously the message must have been viewed, but discarded. To this end I believe that the site has become too impersonal, and no ones queries are now dealt with. Well at least mine wasn't. Whoever takes the time and trouble to send me a personal message, I always have the common courtesy to reply, as I fell that it is good manners to do so. Thank you Soviet
  12. Good old Soviet here, I would say that it is rather pointless being in the EU at all, as is a referendum, because the UK Government has accepted all the bits that it likes, which is in favour of big business and not the average person. What do I mean:- As I am sure most Briskolians will recall some thing called a social contract, which was to to benefit member counties, but Britain has fought bitterly against adopting the social aspect, as it does not want our people to have more public holidays, fairer working hours, and many other things which are enjoyed by other member countries. Also there are the anomalies of elderly people in England being charged for care and losing their saving and house to pay for it, and prescription charges, when compared with Scotland or Wales. The social contract would no doubt have sorted out this stupid mess. The social aspects where first formulated by Jacques Delore, who was a man of vision and progress, who I greatly admire, and who wanted to make us all that little bit freer. There is one good point that I cherish, and this is the fact that while we are still members of the EU, it is extremely unlikely that there will be any future wars between any European nation and Britain. I have children and I don't wish for them to ever see another world war. I think that the call for a referendum has been put about by the UKIP party, which doesn't engage its brain ever, before it thinks. I never involve myself in politics but I hate stupidy when I see it. Soviet
  13. I recently bought the TOM TOM one (third edition) which is about the cheapest, and it has a lifetime camera locations as standard, included in downloads. Surely yours being a more expensive model should also have speed camera downloads for free, on the 720? I do find that a bit strange, but best of luck in tracking down updates for your Tom Tom 720. Soviet:)
  14. Hi SwedishSkoda, Glad that you approve of avatar, as I needed something to suit my chosen name. Totally none political of course, and not to cause offense to any one. Always nice to see the Swedish flag, also. Thank you. Soviet:)
  15. Hi, I am most grateful to you for the information. I have the small plastic shield that comes off of the bottom of the bumper. I see that Octavia's that are used by police have a sump guard. I don't think that I will bother if there wasn't one to start with. Many Thanks Soviet:thumbup:
  16. Hi Good old Soviet here, Does any one know if a Skoda Octavia Mk 1, engine AEE, year 2001, should have some sort of shield underneath the engine, as mine does not seen to have one. The dealer that sold me the car may have removed it. Should there be one? and what should it look like? Most cars have them, and so I think that mine should also. Soviet
  17. Hi, good old Soviet here, I did intend to come to this meeting, but Soviet junior is having a firework party, at relations house that are living currently in another part of the country, which is really a shame, as I have been wanting to meet every one. I will be traveling from Swindon town in the opposite direction to W.S.M. unfortunately, but I am sure that there will be other meetings, for us to come to. I wish all concerned a lovely day out, as the weather is looking very good. No body, please drink and drive, and be safe. Thank you ( happy day to you) Soviet
  18. Hi, Your problem seems somewhat similar to the one that I had. Mine was loss of power to the servo in the drivers door. This was fixed just by cleaning the dirty contacts. Because the doors are interwired, you may find that it cures all the problems. It is not a hard job to do, as I am no brain surgeon. Hope that this is some help:- Fixed my central locking problem. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Earlier I posted a thread on the site regarding and infuriating central locking problem, on my 2001 1600cc Octavia LX, which I am not able to find now. The problem was that if the car was parked with the drivers door facing the sunlight, then the servo in that door would loose power completely, meaning that I would need to trot around to the passenger door to unlock all the doors, which funnily enough in turn would unlock the drivers door. I have now cured the problem. Firstly I was amazed as to how easy it is with the Skoda mk1 to get the door panel off. I had to do the same thing with my previous car, a Vauxhall Carlton, and ended up renewing plastic clips after breaking them off, and I could never get it back on properly, after that, and came to the conclusion that it was never meant to come off after leaving the factory. The Vauxhal Carlton was a pig to work on in more ways than one, which included the distributer cap being almost against the firewall, which meant that a bent screwdriver had to be used to remove the cap. An hours job to turn each screw a half a turn at a time. Seem to remember that it was two of them. The Skoda job was a piece of cake to do. Disconnected the battery, then parted the two halves of the door handle with a thin knife, then remove the two long screws. I have manually operated windows, and so the winder is removed by just pressing the inside of the handle to release it. Very easy. Then there are three screws at the bottom of the door panel, and four either side of the door. The only minor difficulty was releasing the door panel from the top weather seal, which needed a bit of persuasion. Then it was just a case of disconnecting the door security LED, and uncoupling the the door handle release rod. After carefully peeling back the polythene weather membrane, so as not to tear it, I disconnected the multi way plug, and gave it a blast of cleaning fluid. reconnected the plug and temporally reconnected the battery, and tested operation of the servo. Worked just fine, and so disconnected battery again and reassembled. No more problems since, I am pleased to say. If anyone ever needs to do the same thing, and is not sure how, please contact me. 19. Hi good old Soviet here, Total intolerance as I said before. Why not just put a friendly warning on the windshield, and make him aware that it is not on the next time. Apologies for going off thread a bit, but it all seemed to start with people being jailed for non payment of poll-tax, which also included the old etc. The latest is pay to throw, for rubbish. I have visions of the poor old white haired lady, mistakenly putting a sauce bottle or a pickle jar in the rubbish sack, and then being hauled before the courts. I want a fairer, more compassionate society, as there is just too much dict-at these days, and the emphasis is on 'you will do this'. I do not like our current society, and things are getting worse in this respect. Soviet
  20. I think it does make a difference as it is so unnecessary to start with. They are just money making. The current society that we now are finding ourselves in, seems to get more and more intolerant as each year goes by. How I wish that I was still living in the 1960's when people where given the benefit of the doubt, and not penalised unnecessarily just for the sake of increased profits. What ever happened to a friendly warning? Why go straight for jugular vein? I do not like this society now, and I making no secret of the fact. Soviet:thumbdwn: l
  21. Vehicle owner details are available from the DVLA to anyone, that will pay the required fee, so I am understanding it, but as Robmawer said, being trespassing they will provide details. I do think that they are being hawkish, though as B&Q where closed, and it was so unnecessary to give you a ticket. This is also not good for B&Q customer relations, as it possibly puts you off of doing the shopping with them, in future. I would fight your corner. It is always better to try, than give in, I think. Soviet(up the sharp end)
  22. Hi Good old Soviet here, I have been seeing advertisements for the removal of stone chip marks from windshields. The owner of my car previously, must have allowed the windshield wiper arms to scratch the glass, as at the end of the travel of them on the drivers side there are scratches. This is more apparent in sunlight. The person probably did not check the rubber part of the wiper so often. Does anyone know if it is possible to have scratches removed, similarly to stone chip markings? The scratches are not so bad, but they do not look good. Soviet:thumbup:
  23. I get annoyed on the motorway when people suddenly move out from a slower lane to a 'faster overtaking one' with no trafficator switched on, and probably not checking the mirror before hand either. lorries and buses even do this dangerous manovere. I wish that the cops were more hot on this. Soviet (put em in the Gulag)
  24. Of course, I am embarrased now. What a silly mistake for me to be making. I thought that this was very cheap price, and now I know why. Thank you for telling me this, as I had not understood properly. Soviet (egg on face)
