  1. I suppose as long as your tyres are wearing evenly, not going thin in the middle, you're okay.
  2. I found 39 psi to be a bit firm. I'm running my 19" Vredestein Quatrac 5's at 36 psi. There's usually just two of us in the car with a light load. The chap that mounted my tyres was going to send me away with 32 psi, but I thought that was way too low... What do I know?
  3. Ha! Literally, the service would have been done while you wait, if you had wanted to wait all day. (I used to work in advertising.) I do feel your pain. I drop my car off in the early am, take the train home after 09:30 when my Freedom Pass kicks in, and come back the next day after my Freedom Pass kicks in. No sweat. Bill Bryson called the UK "the land of low expectations" or something like that, and keeping that in mind serves to keep me from being overly disappointed these days. Um, when I say these days, I mean the last 35 years. 😂
  4. Mac is tricky because the OS leaves invisible files on the SD card that the Škoda infotainment system doesn't recognise/like. In order to remove those Mac invisible files, you need to eject the SD card from the Mac using an application like CleanMyDrive 2.app, which I downloaded from the App Store. Then the card is presented as expected and it works fine.
  5. The Nightbreaker H7's are excellent bulbs, but they are halogen, not xenon.
  6. Since the Škoda is a VAG car and a lot of the parts cross-pollinate, I'm happy to keep my KESSY key in a cheap Faraday pouch just for peace of mind.
  7. I keep my key in the watch pocket of my jeans. (OP, I don't have and electric boot lid). If I get out of the car, the engine shuts off and says it can't see the key. My question is, how can your car run when the key is inside a Faraday bag? Will the door lock/unlock for you when the key is in the Faraday bag? If so, maybe the bag is not effective. I have a Faraday bag. If I take the key to the car and touch the door handle, it doesn't see the key and won't open.
  8. No. The Škoda portal ran at a steady 9.2 mb/s and took almost an hour. Heck, it took almost that long for the file to open on my desktop, then the same again to move the files to my 32 Gb SD card. After all that, I'm probably not driving to Europe anytime soon, and certainly not to Russia, which took most of the unzipping time.
  9. @MartiniB I see the link above is the same one I used. The download was successful this time – P195 EU. The portal recognised my VIN (2016.11), so I guess that's my last one? Anyway, thanks for your usual diligence! 👍
  10. After three unsuccessful attempts, I got a warning that the download file was unavailable. I went to Škoda's update portal and their page had changed. You can now download directly from the UK website using your VIN number. Mind, my download still has eight minutes left to go...
  11. I keep losing the network connection at about 18Gb. (Three attempts so far.) Maybe I'll have to wait until the small hours when the network might not be so busy...
  12. Thanks, @MartiniB for the link. I just paid a visit to the Škoda website and saw a warning that 32Gb SD cards may be too small now and to use a 64Gb card. Still downloading, so I don't know if that is the case with this update.
  13. No issues except door window trim on my 66-reg 2.0 TSI Sportline, 20k miles. Drives like the day I bought it with 1,700 miles on it from the dealer. Best car I've ever owned. I loved my '08 Alfa Romeo Brera more, and it was a money pit. You pays your money and takes your choice.
  14. Picked up the Sportline today after its fifth annual service, hence my fifth annual post. Pros: The Marshall Škoda dealership in Croydon has been very easy to deal with, from sale to after-sale servicing. Very pleasant people, well organised and, considering Covid, reliable. I got a very detailed printed description of exactly what was done and what was not done. I even got a video sent to my mobile three hours after I delivered the car showing it on the rack, the camera moving under to show the tyres, dampers, exhaust, etc. and that all was well. That's a first. I got a call to say the job was done and how much it would cost, which was the same as when I booked the job in. All in all, painless, and cheaper than the fourth year service. £234.00. Cons: I was charged for replacing the battery in my key fob, which would have been fine, except I changed it myself two months ago. I asked if they checked the condition of the car battery, which is the same one since new. They said, oh, the battery gets checked in the sixth year. WTF? On the detailed work sheet, the battery was checked, but the condition not noted. It does start up first crank even when it's been sitting for a couple weeks in the cold. Do I replace a five-year-old battery now, or wait for it to fail? (Got to pay for the service first...) I asked them to check the top window trim on the near side doors, which has been popping up. This has been a recurring problem. They took two annual services to finally replace (successfully) the off side window trim, but this time they said that they couldn't see a problem. Indeed, since the weather turned colder, it has ceased to be a problem. The next time it pops up, I think I'll resort to a tube of silicone glue. The eight-mile drive from my house to the dealership at 7:30 am this morning took an hour. The drive home at noon today took longer. I have a respected mechanic literally around the corner from my house that does VAG cars and MOTs. Since the car is well out of warranty and "goodwill" is probably (definitely) a stretch, I really don't know what's stopping me taking the car to my local from now on... I have to say, this car still drives like the day I drove it home five years ago. Mind, I put 1,007 miles on it last year. 2K miles the year before, but 6K miles in 2018 when we drove to Sicily. There's only 20K on the car. I've gotten used to the size and don't even notice it anymore. I could house a refugee in the boot. As often as I scan the new car articles, I think this car is a keeper, at least until the council gets my area wired up for electric vehicles that have to park/charge on the street. So, I'm guessing 2024. Might even have to be a Škoda.
  15. Are you a Mac user?
  16. After four years, I was starting to get uncomfortable in my seat. I readjusted the lumbar support and I'm back to liking the seat again. Also, as I'm the only driver, I keep slight modifications set on each of the three buttons so I can make changes mid-trip. Works for me...
  17. Looks pretty "cherry" though, as we used to say in '60s San Jose.
  18. They should be reported to your insurance company as a modification.
  19. Try this: https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models The manual trip reset button (as advised above) is at the bottom of the instrument cluster.
  20. My 2016 Sportline has a Columbus unit in it that comes with a CD player in the glove box. If you hit a pothole or a speed bump, it skips. My wife is proud to say she is a Luddite. There is simply no helping her... Good luck in your quest! 🙂
  21. You should also inform your insurance company.
  22. Me, too. I keep waiting for it to fail, but it fires up first time, every time, even after sitting outside for weeks at a time. We're taking a week-long holiday in August. I'm debating whether to replace the battery before we go. In the end, I'll probably wait for the first time it fails and get some use out of this breakdown policy I've been paying for for the past four years and never used. Damn the inconvenience!
  23. Yesterday, I washed the car for the first time in two months. Today, it takes me about 10 minutes to stand up straight. Yesterday, I filled it with petrol. It was 10 months since my last visit to a petrol pump. It was the most expensive tank ever: £93.61 for 62.87 litres of premium unleaded. 28.7 mpg on my last tankful. I blame evaporation and city driving. Yesterday, I drove to Dungeness with four in the car. Two hours each way. Today, it takes me about 10 minutes to stand up straight. We had the beach to ourselves and the fish'n'chips was excellent. Car ran great. 4.5 year old battery fired right up.
  24. Yeah, me too. My "kerb feelers" could use some love and attention.
  25. My 66-reg Sportline has the Columbus system which came with a CD player. It still has the same CD in it that I put in four years ago. None of the other 20 in a pack in the glove box have been touched. The first time I hit a pothole that caused the CD to skip, I stopped using it. I've got a couple USB sticks and SD cards that hold my entire music library. And, like john999boy suggests, in traffic or at speed you will not notice any quality difference. My first after-market music player was an 8-track cassette deck. The tapes kept jamming, and I'm not talking reggae.
