Todays little Mod -- Auto dimming rear view mirror
Is there any chance of a photo of you fitting the bracket? Mine doesn’t seem to tighten at all, as if the torx screw is too short and it just dangles in the wind... photo shows screw tightened up maximum when off. The only way I can get it tight on windscreen bracket is by putting the mirror bracket half on so the torx screw tightens against the centre of the raised part of the Windscreen bracket, but it doesn’t seem secure.

Auto dimming Rear Mirror
Hi green stripe, I got the exact one of these like you did. I have the same bracket on the screen and the same VW adaptor. The thing is, I don’t seem to be able to tighten the Gentex mirror onto my bracket at all, it’s like the torx screw is too short or something and the whole mirror just sort of wobbles about on the windscreen Mount. I’m normally good with stuff like this, but this has got me stumped 🤔 photo of the bracket, adaptor and the torx screw tightened up to maximum. Any help appreciated.

Fabia 1.6 TDI
If you've put a deposit on it, then there should be no reason why they would not give you the VIN, then you can do a full background check on the car. This should tell you the engine code, I'm sure there is a number linking the engine to the chassis as well. You could ask the seller to photo the ECU at the back of the engine bay behind the intake filter box, that will definitely have the coding because the last letter is ECU related.

Engine warning light glow plug light flashing and going to limp mode
The 1.6 says “esc error” on the maxi dot when the brake bulbs are dying but not yet gone, no error codes are given either.

Trying to avoid a new EGR
South Romsey, so you possibly won’t make it to me in Salisbury without a limp mode happening then. if it were me, this is what I would do: check on the status of the car using VagDPf or VCDS for egr movement and dpf ash residue (it may not have much life left at that mileage) check on EA189 emissions update and any other error codes (the garage you went to probably wiped them all sadly). If it has an ea189 update then get it rolled back and this will reduce EGR cycles. Code out EGR is also possible. remove that tuning box from the common rail. run some 6400dmax through it. change the oil and the filter (your engine looks like someone forgot to put the dipstick back in it) This would give your engine And EGR the best chance of running normally. Then see what happens. Worst case, you would have wanted to do the above anyway. i could probably come and help you with the above (except rollback and coding), a filter is a few ££ from euro car parts and oil is £34 trade from Halfrauds if you use Castrol Edge

Trying to avoid a new EGR
Also, what is that box nonchalantly cable-tied to your bonnet release cable??

Trying to avoid a new EGR
if it’s a 1.6 then it requires the subframe dropping at the front to replace the EGR as quickly and easily as possible; the egr is an all in one unit with a cooler attached and you can’t really do much with it mechanically except remove it and replace it, or blank it. I’ve heard of much worse quotes to get it done than £500 that’s for sure... You could try some Archoil 6400dmax, it’s pretty potent stuff but it has been known to free up EGR valves from stories on the EA189 groups. What can follow sticky EGR valves is DPF problems, what is the mileage on your car? i know a man in Basingstoke who may be able to code out the EGR moving and leave it closed, and mechanically, Autowork in Salisbury are pretty amazing at anything with a VAG label on it. i do have VagDPf which we can have a quick look at what is actually happening for certain, it will also tell us if you’ve had the EA189 emissions update (if you aren’t the first owner), which would cause EGR issues. Which side of Romsey are you? did you buy it from a dealer by the way? It’s a bit of a stretch at 8mths for consumer law mind.

Trying to avoid a new EGR
one code means it’s sticking open, the other code means it’s sticking closed. Either way, it’s not cycling the same as what the ECU is commanding (or the wires/plug is suddenly duff). As it’s 15mins in, I’d suggest it’s sticking closed and not opening when it should. Fortunately the 1.9 is accessible to clean up. Give this a whirl https://youtu.be/bbUNGjY3T9s

TDi Tuning box
I have used tuning boxes in the past. In my experience, they can throw up fuel rail pressure errors when cranked up to the max, not consistent errors, but more inopportune random ones which require turning the ignition off and back on again to clear. ive had an 2014 A6 tdi which never threw an error. I’ve had a 2016 Discovery Sport that never gave any errors, only to have the box reset for a 2018 3.0discovery that randomly gives fuel rail errors. The 2014 fabia 1.6cr also gave fuel rail errors. the boxes were from a long standing diesel tuning box specialist that has featured in many magazine reviews.

Very useful info this greenstripe, Id have taken the screwdriver option if I hadn't read this!

Aerial replacement (DAB & GPS)
Rusty, are all fakra cables the same or is the DAB cable a special version? I am considering changing my aerial to one with a DAB in it then hooking up to the RNS and enabling DAB. Don’t know why I didn’t do it last year, I think I forgot..

P008700 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low
Oh, that was my first thought. Has it had the ea189 emissions update?

P008700 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low
Have you got a tuning box fitted to it?
