the truth about electric cars
https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/11/24034462/hertz-ev-sell-one-third-fleet-ice-tesla-polestar-used This article claims the 2021 100k Tesla acquisition was completed. Where did you get 60k delivered from? Remember it's been 2+ years since 2021. About time refresh is happening. edit: perhaps extrapolating from thin air again?

the truth about electric cars
Hertz selling 20k EV's from its fleet sound like a lot. But one has to remember Hertz bought 100k Tesla's back in 2021, they also offer Polestar and many other brands of EV. https://electrek.co/2021/10/25/hertz-orders-100000-teslas-the-single-largest-ev-purchase-ever/ There is also element that public isn't ready for EV. Rental company now need to balance their fleet alongside population's experience and expectation. Putting people with zero EV experience into EV's will not end well. But at the same time, they got to maintain a suitably sized fleet of EV's for people who prefer those cars. Unlike petrol/diesel, there is a now a strong preference for type of cars from some people, myself included.

Domestic charging points - A new social dividing line?
When you spot a pointless clickbait, it's better to close the video and remove from watch history. Youtube algorithm are too good at baiting for engagement. For that reason, clickbait controversial ranty (non-informative) videos do really well, unfortunately.

the truth about electric cars
The flexing seen is the plastic motor undertray. The battery are between the axels, but the flexing part is in front of the wheel. It is sort of cheating because the undertray breaks up most of the rock. An immovable object would indeed be the real test. Remember that tiny umbrella water stopper we previously talked about? Turns out it's tasty for rodents. https://www.speakev.com/threads/rodent-damage-to-battery-umbrella-valves.182343/ "Part cost £20 - damage incurred £13k…"

Has the Panda powertrain been modified for high altitude? Could a single powertrain (engine, gearing, clutch, etc) configuration be used across the entire pole to pole journey? Just as the EV powertrain had achieved. We can make amazing machines for single specific purposes, no doubt about it. The key here is that EV powertrain tech is able to do it from the factory and without needing modifications for the specific environment.

Speaks volume about the EV powertrain. It is able to operate across the globe, including up in thin atmosphere and in extreme cold. https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/a-nissan-ariya-has-become-first-car-drive-pole-pole No other car has completed pole to pole. 10 months to cover 18,600 miles.

List of EV Tariff for 2.5p/mile motoring
Nice one. Are you participating in "saving sessions"? There's an idea to SORN the car in Feb/Mar, tax it the day after. This would mean 6 more month of free road tax (push from Sep 2025 to Mar 2026). I'm on Intelligent Octopus Go for 7.5p/kWh. Gone from 8p/kWh Economy 7 when I first got my EV back in 2017, to 10p/kWh, I then switched to EV tariff at 6p/kWh with Bulb. Finally, switched to Octopus and it stayed at 7.5p/kWh from fixed 1 yr Go (which helped me escape the crazy energy prices) to current IGO. Despite what people say, off-peak pricing has stayed mostly consistent for me. Done a few referrals, I think 4-6 over the years including with Bulb. Currently £480 in credit for energy and £30 in credit for Electroverse due to a few referral there. Also £125 pm for DD. Reduced from £175 during months heading into winter. I should do the other way around and use left over money from no council tax in Feb/March to pay off winter debts.

the truth about electric cars
100 miles in 35min is probably an average figure. More like 200 mines in 30-40min for my car and many large battery fast charging EV's. Hopefully they mean trunk roads. Motorway and dual carriage A roads are not much different as far as UK's backbone network is concerned. The idea is that local use is supported by slower destination charging so that rapid charging is only when driving long distance and need a top up to get to destination. This would, at very least, make EV a viable default option for everyone with driveways, the "low hanging fruit" for EV adoption.

England EV Charging points, a proposal. & location & news on new charging hubs in England & Wales.
Until 6th of Jan, all first time non-Tesla charging on SuC network will be free. Not sure how they'd distinguish first time users if one uses different bank contactless card each time.....

the truth about electric cars
Ah here lays the problem. Tesla taunts "no service". There are regular maintenance recommendations but no service requirement. I don't have to do any service to maintain the 4 year warranty. As such, "schedule a service" in the app gets the user to raise a concern or ask for service work to be done. So traditional idea of fixed interval service is not something can be relied upon in Tesla ownership. But similarly, why didn't VAG dealership do the infamous waterpump during service? With Leaf, I had some sort of earthing service item done during service FoC. Could I "raise a concern" with the rear tail hatch and see if I can get it changed because it's a known issue? I may try it. I tried something similar with Octavia's 2.0 TDI, where I found details of service bulletin for firmware update on the ECU to cure warm weather engine cranking issue (takes longer to crank in warm weather). The dealership guy just asked "where did I get this info", want to charge half hour diagnostic fee, book it in for another date and would not entertain it is warranty related.

the truth about electric cars
The Model 3 droplink is known issue and I remember mentioned by Kate and James or RSymons in one of their video. It is covered under warranty but not a recall. "Just get a Tesla" guy recent video shows MY rear hatch latch issue and he got it replaced under warranty. Apparently a known issue. His car is probably same batch as my car because he also took delivery in early September 2022. So I'll be using rear hatch a bit more to hopefully make it fail within 4 yr warranty. VAG will replace water pump free of charge under warranty if it failed within warranty period, but would decline warranty claim a few months out of warranty. My Octavia had water pump leak a few month out of 3 yr warranty, guess who had to foot the bill. All cars have issues, getting dealerships to recognise the issue and make warranty claim from manufacturer is often a battle in itself. Tesla operate differently and some warranty claims are easier, some are harder.

the truth about electric cars
Yep, the "classic" Ioniq is very well regarded because it's a great EV. Mainly due to efficiency and rapid charging speed despite the smallish battery. The original 28 kWh version bests 40 kWh Leaf in Bjorn's 1000 km challenge. Unfortunately for £8k, you'd be in the era before usable non-city EV such as the Ioniq. If it is their only car, I don't think an EV is suitable replacement due to budget constraints. Although a left-field option is Vauxhall Ampera PHEV, it has 40+ miles EV range and motor to generate power, more than a lot of PHEV's today. Downside is that battery lives in the huge transmission tunnel and it's a 4-seater, cabin space is cramped. I considered it before getting an Octavia. ------------- News: Infrastructure is improving at staggering pace. 500 rapid chargers installed in December: https://twitter.com/WattsUp/status/1738878142478012922 No Christmas holiday queue at charge points.... so far: https://twitter.com/au_tom_otive/status/1738588682641088933

the truth about electric cars
I’d choose none of those, nor the B class. Rapid charging is very important and CCS has already overtaken Leaf/Soul Chademo or Zoe AC charging as the de facto charging standard in Europe. Out of the e-up triplet, the Seat Mii only has a single trim and is proving to be the cheapest best value of the bunch. CCS rapid charging comes standard. EVM YouTuber bought a 2 year old example for under £10k. How big is the pram? If it folds up like YOYO sized, it will fit in Mii no problem. There’s huge variety of sizes and design, some are huge even folded, Bjorn EV youtuber’s pram used in his car practicality video is huge.

the truth about electric cars
If you want to charge purely on renewables, tonight and tomorrow night is the time to do it. (I'm in a different time zone for Xmas, hence X axis) All while getting paid for the privilege with the right tariff. https://agileprices.co.uk/ This is the future, where renewables are sometimes plentiful and people who are flexible with their demand (battery owners) can fill their boot ultra-cheap while being an asset to the grid. The energy mix over last few days had also been mostly renewable (wind).

the truth about electric cars
Regardless of what you said weeks ago. The issue at hand is that you said this while quoting my post: My post quoted your post, which is below. You have not mentioned remote tailpipe issue in the post in question. You have directly compared switching to BEV from diesel, directly contradict your later post. You have zero intension of owning up to this and continue to claim what was said weeks ago, although related, it was not mentioned and you were trying to change the subject. What can we trust from you? Regarding renewables, we've been through this. Please see pages back.

“All I’ve said” I am pointing out it was not what you’ve said in your earlier post. You’ve also said something you say you’ve never said. Re-read my post you’ve quoted to see your contradictions: If you can’t remember what you’ve said earlier in the day, perhaps you are the one who have a very short memory 😂

the truth about electric cars
Funny how you selectively believe politicians’ blame shifting (thus also justify not believing experts) but don’t believe politicians’ other shenanigans. Great argument you’ve constructed. Pat yourself on the back 👍 “Doing the same now”, are you not comparing the message to switch from combustion engine to BEV? Exactly opposite of what you claim you have never done. Not one single word in your earlier post was about shifting emissions to remote locations. Regardless what you were lead to believe. The fact of the matter is, BEV power source can be from renewables. I have successfully done this from my roof top solar.
