the truth about electric cars
Nice logic. Because ICE to EV is similar to petrol to diesel 🤪 One is complete paradigm shift the other is a lame bait and switch. One had a rough start and zero lobbying at the beginning. The other was supported by most German brands over Toyota's hybrid electrification, with intense lobbying efforts. Same humour when Taycan man can't use a mapping app? Same humour when Geoff talks about EV battery fire on a Vauxhall van fire that had nothing to do with electric powertrain?

the truth about electric cars
I could easily say "VW engines need replace after 3 years" use same logic as Top Gear. It was extremely far from the truth and you knew it. Degradation of components is normal in everything. If anyone lives on the maximum range of their car, they are in a surprise no matter the fuel source. It was pointless perpetuating FUD against EV's for entertainment purposes, just like the Taycan guy and Geoff. Couldn't be further from the truth. To defend that Top Gear statement takes something very special.

Just as entertaining as Top Gear, who said Nissan Leaf battery needs changing every few years. You prefer entertainment than truth, noted

So occasional sponsorship means vested interest and not to be believed to contain truth. Whereas viewership driven social media opinions are truth? Very good reasoning 🤪

What sort of vested interest does Fully Charged show have? Would be great if you can back up your stipulation with some solid evidence. https://fullycharged.show/faqs/

EV used car prices plummeting ,what's your experience?
Correct, Leaf 40 is not a all-purpose EV, it would throttle second rapid charging of the day making it difficult to do more than 200 miles a day. I don't believe 62kWh have this problem due to lower C rating during rapid charging. I believe I have enough knowledge from SpeakEV forums to know how to test for Leaf degradation. The key with 40 kWh versions is that if rapid charged, cells 30-40 IIRC would overheat and degrade faster. So armed with Leafspy, drive the car down to 20-30% and see if any cells or group of cells have large voltage drops. Leafspy also shows rapid charging count, so this can be used as guideline. All it means is that I would not buy Leaf 40's blind, must be allowed to use Leafspy and will demand to test drive at below 50% SoC. Or wait 1-2 years and see if I can get 62kWh to futureproof myself in order to use V2H to power heat pump.

EV used car prices plummeting ,what's your experience?
I guess the crux of it is that.... as you as you didn't buy in 2022 when new EV prices were at highest without any dealership discount...... 😅 Looking at Leaf 40 prices, not as good as Zoe/Mii for some unknown reason. I think we've already hit rock bottom and market is in rebound. During lowest time, an almost new Leaf 62 with dealership car park miles were advertised for £20k.

I think we have our terminology crossed. Stalls = the visible charging bits that has been changed from red U shape to giant slab of white. Cabinets = the AD-DC power conversion electronics housed nearby, hidden away. Yes, stalls have been upgraded. But early report is that cabinets have not been upgraded to support 800v or more amps. This article talks about V4 delivering same V3 power: https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-v4-supercharger-speed-cable-length/ But this newer article says V4 are 350kW, no confirmation what voltage it is able to output: https://electrek.co/2023/07/26/tesla-confirms-supercharger-v4-350-kw-output/

All current Tesla V4 installs are still using V3 cabinets, meaning they are all still 250 kW using 400v at 600 odd amps. They've only updated the stalls to allow better compatibility with cars with longer cable. The stall may be compatible at mega volts/speed for future upgrades.

Hum.... Shell...... an oil company. I wonder why they are pricing themselves out of the market or want to slow down EV adoption. Just wait for news articles and bait-tuber on shocking cost of running EV.

List of EV Tariff for 2.5p/mile motoring
British Gas FreeCharge is free 8000 miles of EV driving for 1 year: Requires HIVE EV charger. British Gas offers free EV charging for a year with purchase of Hive EV charger Just like gen 1 smart meters, this is getting stupid very quickly. Podpoint exclusive with EDF, Ohme/Zappi with Octopus Intelligent (though car integration makes it less restrictive), now Hive with British Gas. I do fancy some of this action, but despite having smart charger, I'm not eligible because I don't have the right smart charger. Do I have to have a line of EV chargers in front of my house to be able to switch to best deals? 🙄

My 2023 MINI Cooper S Level 3 Electric leased from Motability which will be with me for 3 years & now a 2021 MG5 as a dog wagon.
Beautiful scenery. 3.9 mi/kWh is very good for hilly drive. 44 miles divide by 3.9 mi/kWh gives 11.28 kWh. At 22p/kWh, that drive only cost £2.50. 😁

the truth about electric cars
This is a list of all the variables that Tesla vehicles use to predict sat-nav's arriving state of charge %: – Wind speed & direction – Elevation/grade – Traffic speed – Avg acceleration/deceleration – Ambient temperature – Humidity & pressure – Solar load & cloud cover – Initial battery percentage – Initial battery temperature – Gross combined vehicle weight – Rolling resistance – Aerodynamic drag coefficient – HVAC consumption – Vehicle-specific energy consumption (bike rack or similar) – Battery pre-conditioning source: https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-factors-battery-on-arrival/?fbclid=IwAR3AYwUJiBYFk-ue6WtAoY_Pz4fdMc_yYKxQyhwvyBywau9sDfHGO_1lM8E There is also a software update waiting to be installed. It is now able to predicts wait time at busy locations based on other cars en-route: https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/1645/tesla-update-2023-38-will-predict-supercharger-availability-and-wait-times Truth about EV's is that it is very easy to live with when the software takes care of everything and just works. I found the arrival SoC prediction to be very accurate and can be relied upon. On the other hand, my neighbour's Genesis car software is horrendous. Without a schedule set in the car, the car would start charging immediately when plugged in. But if charger has schedule (my new one does), it wouldn't automatically start charging when charger enables power. It's more backwards than my Nissan Leaf...... My Leaf's V2H is mostly working brilliantly. When the car is on the driveway, I only use cheap electricity and all excess solar production is captured. Only problem is with currently with unfinished V2H software, I can't set the SoC limits, it is non-configurable at 100%-30%. My original calculation was based on 100%-10%. This means during gloomy days + extra dehumidifier to dry laundry + school runs, this 9 years old first-gen Leaf doesn't have enough battery capacity to last all the way to overnight cheap period. May be I should start my own thread on my V2H experiences...... Also considering upgrade to a 40 kWh Leaf......

the truth about electric cars
En-route rapid chargers rated: https://www.zap-map.com/news/best-en-route-charging-networks-2023-24 Not at all surprised Geniepoint and BP so poorly rated. Slightly surprised CPS is similarly rated as Gridserve. Latter is probably weighed down by the 2 charger sites at old EH stations. Top 5 would be my go to, if no Tesla superchargers nearby.

The part itself costs around $400 it seems: Part number from the catalogue. I remembered incorrectly, it's a 16v battery. https://epc.tesla.com/en-GB/catalogs/2020/categories/25783/subcategories/58503/systemGroups/119803?categoryID=25783 Retail parts website: https://recambiopl.com/en/code_product/1598486-00-f/ https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Factory-direct-sales-For-Tesla-Model_1600662719323.html

I think he got it via Tesla's early referral program, back when they were giving out cars for top referrers. So he owns the vehicle outright. I seem to remember he said he'll use referral credit to fix the broken trims. My Leaf's V2H charger is finally commissioned You can tell when I plugged it in: (light green line solar production, blue line home use, purple line export)

the truth about electric cars
It's Li-on battery at ~15 volts. There are no 48v system in any Tesla in history. I agree the car should have been able to isolate the faulty headlight and allow normal operation to continue. Time to look for PPF for those expensive headlights 😭 Yes, these cars are not off-road vehicles. On my V5 the MY is actually listed as MPV despite only having 5 seats. Tesla-Bjorn actually took his Model X off-road many years ago, it did okay for traction but not okay for clearance.

The update video: In short: Unlucky stone damaged one of the light, causing water damage and short circuit in the light. Car detected LV short circuit and refused to drive. Tesla service came, previous video delay was said to be due to the storm. Changed the light at owner's cost, and changed the LV battery as precaution under warranty.

the truth about electric cars
The Transit electric van is said to have dependable range of 100 miles, rated range of 150+ miles. https://www.parkers.co.uk/vans-pickups/ford/transit/2022-e-transit-review/ Might not be enough in rural area, but the range is more than enough in the city. All supermarket delivery, and most parcel delivery around here are now via electric vans. Chargemaster HQ was in the same business park as my workplace, before being acquired by BP. Their 2 on-site rapid charger just cannot be relied upon, most of the time when I do lunchtime walk I see screen dead or EVs fully charged and hogging. They are more focused on getting grant money to expand than providing a reliable service. Perhaps it worked according to plan as it has been acquired by BP. So might be worth striking BP off your list of chargers if you are in a hurry. I know you get free charging through them, but they just cannot be relied upon. Worth having a nearby Plan B, when BP are your plan A. Speaking of my workplace, there is a 16 stall Tesla supercharger v4, open to all, recently completed construction up the road. Reliable chargers everywhere down south

What percentage of cars, in history of car economy/range claims can achieve its stated economy/range? By law, car manufactures have to use WLTP range in Europe, EPA range in US. the truth about electric cars
Problem is more to do with charging networks and their shoulder shrugging than actual EV reliability. In my Electroverse map filter, BP Pulse and Geniepoint are permanently disabled because their chargers are well known for being unreliable. My preferred are Tesla, and as backup: Ionity, Instavolt, Osprey and MFG. Admittedly I don't use public charging as often, but whenever I do, at Tesla superchargers, I've never had to queue, never had problem with charging starting the on first try. Though I do take heed of Tesla's busy-times graph and try to go to them when historical demand is low. Completely different experience in the Nissan Leaf, of course. Mainly due to smaller search radius and thus more likely need to use unreliable chargers. But Taycan man should have similar search radius as my MY. I would have also expected Porsche branded chargers to have delivered rated speeds (Taycan are able to charge back to 80% in 23 min). He stayed at Porsche chargers for over 40min on both occasions.... why? When correctly configured, Taycan do pre-heat the battery for ideal charging speeds. https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/pre-heat-battery.14655/post-221188 https://media.porsche.com/mediakit/taycan/en/porsche-taycan/das-laden
