Good luck with swapping them over. Do upload a pic if you locate the Silica bag in your old tank. 👍

Kodiaq 2.0 TSI Edition DSG [7 Seat]
Here's the 2021 government data on registered Kodiaqs. EDIT: It's old data, but for a used car purchase, not a problem. Latest data can be obtained here; https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/vehicle-licensing-statistics-data-files#download-data-files

Kodiaq 2.0 TSI Edition DSG [7 Seat]
I think I know where you're coming from on this. I think I'd baulk at spending £26K on a 5YO car. I don't care if that's what they cost or whatever. I'm not spending £26K on a 5YO car, period. I'd also be looking at "cost to change" from your existing car, and very much seeing whether the £?K you're spending on the new vehicle gives you £?K worth of additional value in the new vehicle. But that's looking at the issue logically and dispassionately. You can also look at a car purchase from the perspective of "Oh my days! I love this car and I want it. I can afford it and I don't know if I'll find another used car in this colour/spec/condition." That's more an emotionally driven decision. There's no right or wrong way of doing it if you get exactly the car you want, but unless you change your car every couple of years, you're going to have to live with your decision for a while. Personally, I have found buying a bargain car I am not 100% happy with less satisfying than paying too much for a car I really wanted. But that's me. Ideally I like to get the right car at the right price, but we don't live in a perfect world.

1.5TSI or 2.0TSI?
We're all different. I came from a diesel, so I wanted an engine that would give me lots of low down grunt, as I don't tend to hoon about much most of the time. Lots of low-down grunt tends to mean a big engine. In my Octavia, for 90% of my driving, the 1.5TSI would be a better choice than my 2.0TSI, given my love of economy and my tendency to potter around like an old man. (Actually I am an old man now, so even if I raced around, I'd still be driving like an old man, but YKWIM.) Here is some ooomph data. (Source https://www.automobile-catalog.com) which uses manufacturer's data. I pulled the data off the site myself to bung it into Excel so I could have a look at the power curves and help me choose an engine. Speaking of curves, I've also included the Ooomph curves for both engines from the data. (Edit: The highlighted portions of the data are peak Oomph zones.)

Yeti MPG
You're right to be disappointed with that. I'd be looking to see why the car's not running right first, before looking into remaps and mods. As you're in Ireland, I'd be inclined to have a word with this chap (Edit: email address automatically censored by BriSkoda, so take his contact details from his YouTube channel) who seems to be an excellent diesel expert. If nothing else, his YouTube videos are very interesting. Worth checking him out, anyway. https://www.youtube.com/@ORileysAutos/videos Good luck! 👍

How much ooomph do you need to be happy?

Any Skoda UK Sales Staff?
Just a thought, but have you tried rocking up to a Skoda dealer, explaining your situation, and asking them if they can help? Aside from that, presumably you've paid a deposit with your order, I might be tempted to contact trading standards and ask them where you stand.

what if??????? remap/tuning box confusion/puzzle
Yes, I notice he has had a long-running issue with his tuning-box. I'd have been tempted to sell it and just buy a new one from the dealer and get support from the dealer.

Hello. The first step in sorting your problem out can be found here: 👍

Wow! That really is surprisingly low for a modern diesel. (Well it's surprised me, anyway.)

This is relateable, as I did the same myself. Dunno what to advise, but so long as you're happy and it's not a worry, trust your gut on what to do.

I'd love to say "Yeah, that looks fine!" but I really don't know enough about any possible subtle differences between the expansion tanks, particularly as there's some sort of a sensor within the tank. Someone on here is likely to know for sure, but your preferred Skoda dealer should be able to tell you which part you need for your specific vehicle, if you give them a call. It might well be they're all the same and it's not an issue. But I can't confirm that is the case, and telling you otherwise would expose you to the risk of a wasted purchase.

Here's a video of a guy changing his expansion tank. Even with the tank removed, he can't see the silica bag, but it can be heard (he says) when he shakes the removed bottle. Doesn't look like a big job to simply remove the tank, replace with e new tank and top it up with fresh coolant if needed, with a plan to replace the coolant for G12evo (if applicable for your engine) in due course. This thrifty guy reused his coolant from the old tank, which he'd drawn out before removing the tank. Cost was just the tank.

There really are a variety of expansion tanks and silica bags, and it might be that @benterrier's bag isn't the same as the one in the video. I mean, they all look pretty much the same. But back to my original question: "What is the problem you're trying to solve?" I submit that the problem is worrying about the silica bag splitting. In which case, the least worry and fewest variables option is to have the expansion tank changed to a non-silica tank, and replace your coolant with G12evo. That's the problem sorted forever. Yeah, I've read that too. Seems reasonable, but I don't know for sure that whatever makes the silica bags split isn't an issue for the double-walled expansion bottles. Maybe it's because the silica gets trapped in the double-wall construction of the expansion tank when the bags split. One of the guys at work was telling me about his 2015 Audi A3 that had had the dreaded "Like half my heating in the car don't work." issue. He had the heater matrix replaced under warranty, but then the problem later returned and he had to resolve it at his own cost. He knew his problems were caused by some sort of silica bag issue, but wasn't really interested in the precise cause of the problem or the preventative solution. (For all I know, he now has a new expansion tank with a new silica bag in.) My point is, that people who are both aware of the issue and look into the cause and preventative options for mitigating the risk, are a tiny subset of VAG vehicle owners, so collecting data on the issue is difficult. I would guess the safest silica option is the cartridge type silica container, and even they fail. https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/8529/ Once you're aware of the silica bag problem, for people like me, it's always going to be a little niggling worry in the back of my mind, and I have more than enough of those already. So once I understood the issue, I fished my bag out and replaced the coolant. I understand the "Out of sight, out of mind." perspective with double-walled expansion tanks means fishing the bag out isn't an option. (It can be done, but there's a good chance you'll split the flipping thing trying to fish it out.) The easiest option is to do nowt. There's a fair chance you'll be alright and won't have a problem. The safest option is to remove the silica bag from the expansion tank (or replace the tank if you can't) and replace all the coolant with G12evo. As Cilla might have said on Blind Date: "Will you go for contestant number one, who's free and easy but offers no guarantees, or contestant number 2, who'll give you peace of mind, at a price? The choice...is yours!" You beat me to it while I was busy writing my latest "War and Peace" post.

Accident Write Off.
This is good to hear! 👍 It's very easy to get railroaded into making a quick decision that when things calm down a bit you realise wasn't optimal. It's also difficult to make the best decision while you're being put under pressure. Good luck today! 🤞

Accident Write Off.
Don't let yourself be rushed into a decision on this. You sound like you feel as if you've been forced into a corner. You have insurance and you're not at fault. Talk to your insurance some more about how you feel you've been treated unfairly. You can get support if your insurers won't budge and you believe you have been treated unfairly by them. https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumers/complaints-can-help/insurance
