  1. Nice to see Conform UK have found a new piper to dance to, even if it is the animal-beating, failed Brexit-blocking Jolyon Maugham. What a shower! They really need to merge with the Limp Dems and be done with it. 😄
  2. Yes. This is at the root of the problem. The Tories will never win over the left, however much they grovel to Guardian opinion columnists and the shrieking community. Worse still, they have totally neglected their base by actively doing the opposite of what they promised to do, so they now find themselves in the unfortunate position of being hated by everyone, apart from old people who still think they're living in the 1980's. Rishi Sunak is more visibly concerned with securing Ukraine's borders than our own, and will get a deserved humiliating result in the next UK GE assuming he lasts that long, which I doubt. (Then again, I didn't expect Joe Biden to go the distance, but somehow he shuffles on, the President of the woke walking dead.) We live in odd times. Usually the Conservatives defenestrate unpopular leaders without much ceremony. I wonder what it is that is protecting Sunak? Possibly the fear of the party being labelled as "racist" by people who always label the Conservatives as "racist", though there must be someone at Conservative HQ who has seen through that trick by now. Maybe it's the prospect of having to find a replacement for Sunak, who nobody particularly wanted in the first place. Who have they got? Most MPs are either people nobody's heard of, or are unpopular, on both sides of the house. I suspect Labour will run a very low-key election campaign, as a Labour super-majority in Parliament would leave Labour with nobody to blame for their screw-ups. (Much like the Conservatives are now, only dialled up to 11.) If you want to stop the dinghies coming over from France, here's how you do it. Pop! Hissssssssssss! It's not rocket-science.
  3. Ford is helping to save the planet. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/04/24/business/ford-earnings-ev-losses/index.html
  4. Well it's been quite the scorcher this April, hasn't it? I hope the "climate deniers" are thoroughly ashamed of themselves! https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/met-office-speaks-out-over-28926560
  5. What an odd thing to object to... 🤔 That aside, IMO Project 2025 is just a squirrel let loose for Trumps enemies to chase. It's pretty funny to see people perfectly comfortable saying, sometimes in the same post, what boils down to the following: "Trump's a liar! You can't believe a word that he says!!!" and also "OMG! Did you see what Trump just said? 'Our Democracyᵀᴹ' is in peril!!!" It must take some impressive mental gymnastics to be comfortable with those two conflicting thoughts rattling around your head. Then again, the same people are also comfortable with "Gender is a social construct!" and "People need surgery to affirm their gender" rattling round their heads too. (Or at least they were until the Cass Review was published. There's quite a bit of back-pedalling going on now as regards "gender-affirming care".)
  6. I've included a link to the full interview and transcript in my earlier post, @J.R.. I very much doubt we'll see a coherent description of what the actual objection to what Habib said is, but if any reply is given, it will be more hyperbole about how it's our responsibility to prevent any harm coming to anyone, anywhere, at any cost*. (*IF they are expected to be politically aligned with the Shrieking Communityᵀᴹ.) Whatever, it's quite amusing to see Lee and JHB shrieking in harmony. It's music to my ears! 🎵
  7. BREXIT BINGO! Winner, winner, chicken dinner! 😄 Here's the full interview with transcript, people can see exactly what he said, in full, rather than your hyperbolic account of him. I assume it's just the very notion that someone might not give in to emotional blackmail, but if you are able to, could you point out what Habib said, in context, that has got your knickers in such an performative twist? God forbid we shouldn't give in to people threatening harm to themselves or others if we don't do what they want(!) I expect if someone approached you on the street and demanded "Give me your wallet or I'll hurt myself!!!", you wouldn't hand over YOUR wallet, you'd insist a passing stranger hand over THEIR wallet and call them a "disgusting specimen" if they objected. Incidentally, don't take my posting defending Habib as in any way support of the shamefully supine Reform UK party, who, led by the feeble Richard Tice, are getting played spectacularly well by Hope not Soap. I have no time for those losers. But when someone makes a point I agree with, whoever they are, I'm happy to back them up.
  8. I was going to say something but I figured Stonekeeper was just kidding.
  9. We have the same set-up by me too. We have a single large cycle lane on one side of the road, which has replaced the two small cycle lanes at either side of the road. Absolute garbage for cyclists, as you now have to cross the flipping road to use the cycle lane. 🙄
  10. I'd try white spirit to remove the glue, then Isopropyl (70%) to remove the white spirit.
  11. Yes, It's quite a perverse set-up. I want to assume it's just incompetence, but other countries have shown that the problem can very easily be resolved if you have the will to do so. So I am inclined to believe the failure is malicious, rather than due to incompetence.
  12. Selective editing is very difficult to defend against when people actually say things, instead of implying and inferring things. Habib was making a valid point, which selective editing has carefully omitted. The MO is this: People enter the Channel in an attempt to illegally enter the country. As they enter British waters, they scupper the dinghy safe in the knowledge their self-imposed "plight" will be quickly reported to one of the the UK Channel taxi services, RNLI, Coastguard etc. and they will be taken safely across to the UK where they can tie the UK immigration services up in human rights red tape for the next decade, all at the taxpayer's expense. It's a scam, but it's a clever scam, because failing to fall for the scam allows full-time shriekers to shriek in dismay and disgust at any people publicly admitting to not be taken in by the scam, as Habib did here. Imagine someone insuring their car and then setting fire to it deliberately, videoing themselves doing it and laughing about all the lovely money they're going to get from the stupid insurance company. They go to the insurers and demand 100% of the insured value of their car. The insurer refuses to pay out. Cue performative shrieking from the shrieking community about insurance company "hatred" and the shrieker's disgust at the "far-right" insurance company, who have left a poor man hugely out of pocket and with no car. "Let's be clear: Something must be done about these extremist insurance companies!!!!!" I'm surprised these old lefty tricks still work on people, but like those 419 advance fee scams, there are still some people daft enough to fall for them.
  13. If your vehicle has a sunroof, it's worth checking that the drainage holes are clear as they can get blocked and are a pain to unblock, but there are other issues that can cause sunroof leaks, so check that it doesn't.
  14. Another issue is the dreaded silica bag. Look for "mit silikat" legend on your coolant expansion tank.
  15. As it's a DI engine, you're starting to get into inlet valve carbon-build up territory. If it drives fine then there's nowt to worry about, but it's a problem that can appear between 50-100K miles on the TSI DI engines. The solution is to clean the inlet valves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTV-uHv5Cwk
  16. Yeah, I think 6 years is a trigger for down-rating the car for some reason. Be interesting to see how a nearly new car scores. I'll have a look online for a suitable reg...
  17. Apparently they're all at it, but fortunately interventions to control the weather are completely unrelated to climate change, so that's alright then. 🙄 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-13323453/Cloud-seeding-weather-modification-technique.html
  18. Spotted this as an advert on YouTube and thought I'd give it a go as I was checking on the status of my old Mondeo which it didn't find, so I tried it with my Octavia, which it did find. The basic check is free, but there's a more involved check you can pay for to get more information if you're interested in that. The fun bit is being awarded a "score" rating for your car, based on age, annual mileage and MOT success rate (and probably other things as well). https://vehiclescore.co.uk/ Here's my score. How does your car rate? (Presumably I lost a few points for the car being nearly 5 years old.)
  19. I tucked it under the plastic trim that covers the edge of the carpets. Can't say it was a great job, but as it was formerly in the headlining, I was just happy to get it well away from the curtain airbags.
  20. An interesting video (certainly I found him interesting) from a proper character and not some confected e-personality.
  21. Just my tuppence worth, but I'd like to remind you that a warranty is essentially a gamble that your car will break down. You "win" the gamble by getting a successful claim against a failure on your car. (Note, your claim against a failure on your car may be rejected, but you'll still be billed for the warranty. That way you "lose" twice.) You "lose" the bet if your car doesn't break down, so the cost of the warranty was essentially wasted other than to give peace of mind, albeit illusory in some instances. That said, in a perfect claim, a decent warranty can save you a small fortune.
  22. Yes, I have done this (though not on a Kodiaq). My advice is to route your cables low, and then you won't have to worry about the dashcam cable fouling the side curtain airbags which fire down from the headlining over the windows.
  23. That is the charitable interpretation, but I doubt it is in reality correct.
  24. "Wait brothers! I have a great idea. What if WE control the weather?" https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-dubai-airport-flash-floods-show-downsides-controlling-the-weather-2024-4
