  1. Are you getting cold feet about that cone air filter you fitted? 😋 Just kidding. What were the readings on that wireless temp gauge you put in the airflow?
  2. Are those post-war pre-fabs in the background?
  3. Hello there! Hope you enjoy Briskoda.
  4. I remember seeing a video about this problem. (Can't remember where from. 😞 ) Anyway, the gist is, if you brake hard to a halt, then even if you release the brakes, the disk area under the brake pads doesn't get the opportunity to cool as quickly as the disk exposed to the air, and so with the difference in temperature, warping can occur. As there's very little clearance, I'm inclined to run with the idea that prrts of the disk will cool at different rates, not sure why that causes warping. The solution was to slow normally but roll slowly to a final stop, giving the disks a little more time to cool as they slowly rotate just prior to stopping. Only an issue if you've braked pretty hard prior to stopping.
  5. "What car should I buy?" questions are a bit like "What should I have for dinner?" questions, it's a bit of a blank sheet of paper. Help us out by listing what you want, and what you don't want.
  6. Which online site did you book through?
  7. Okay, that makes sense. My gut would tell me to walk, TBH. I suspect that car has not been repaired to the standard a loving owner would repair the car to, it's been repaired to get it back on the forecourt at the minimum cost.
  8. What's the appeal of this particular car, above others that haven't required an engine rebuild?
  9. Hello! That's a nice car! Is it my imagination, or are there some serious spacers on your front wheels?
  10. The car seems like a good buy, but as TheClient details, there are some known issues with that particular engine/gearbox combination. It's an 11 year-old car. I think it looks like a good buy, but if it doesn't feel right, walk away. I think that car is worth the £5k5 they're asking for it, but you might not, and it's your money. Put simply: Would you rather have the £5499 in your bank account, or that car on your drive? That's basically what your buying decision it boils down to. I understand getting cold feet about buying a used car, as it took me 2 years to find one I was happy with. Eventually I got to the stage where I literally could not find a good reason not to buy the particular vehicle I ended up buying. If you've spoken to the previous owner, assuming he's being straight with you, the car should be okay. But it might not be, and that's a risk we take with all car purchases. Good luck!
  11. That's quite a cash flow turnaround from 2020.
  12. Ah! So it's NOT a full Skoda dealership service history, as advertised? Hmmm.
  13. The point is, the link works just fine. (Or rather did, as the advert is now gone, so I guess the car is sold.) Maybe I have issues with Firefox because I have some add-ons installed. AutoTrader (and one or two other) car sites don't work for me on Firefox, but they work fine with Brave.
  14. The link does work, just not with Firefox and possibly some other browsers.
  15. Looks good to me. Obviously you'd need to take it for a drive and be happy with it. I like the little ding in the rear O/S as it tends to knock some money of the purchase price without actually being any problem at all. No rust, looks very nice for the price. For some reason I was expecting a higher spec radio than the Bolero in a L&K, but from the pics and description, it looks like a great buy, if everything is working. I particularly like the full Skoda service history.
  16. Thanks for the pics! That sealant looks very similar to my boot, so that's reassuring.
  17. If it's been serviced by Skoda, I think they keep a service history record on their system, though that might not apply for older cars. But any dealer will be able to give you what information Skoda is holding on your car. Edit: Also that clutch doesn't sound right, IMO. Also, for peace of mind, this might be worth a look, https://www.vcheck.uk/
  18. Could be. I think the way forward is to see several similar-era Octavias and see how their boots look.
  19. I'm not really one for sheep dressed as wolves, and generally like to keep cars OEM, or improve them in line with options available on a particular model. That said, I do really like the look of the vRS pedal pads in comparison to the plain rubber pads of my SE L. Are the vRS metal pedal pads parts that just bolt-on? Has anyone done this, I've not seen any posts on this subject.

I will go and check this right now. Thanks! ... and it was set to "Early". I've dropped it down to "Medium" and I'll see how I get on with it.

I've not got lane assist, but this one flashes up now and then, including when going round a bend when a central refuge with a bollard triggered it. I've never had the system apply the brakes, but the warning flashing up is distracting at a time when attention needs to be firmly on the road. At least it doesn't yank the wheel.
  22. Post boot sealant pics, please!
  23. That's what I was thinking. I thought the sealant was normally painted over.
  24. And even if they won't drop the price, they should at least do the work.
  25. Thank you, that's very helpful!
