Octavia not starting at all
I'd agree with this as being a good place to investigate, but I'd add that if the battery is known to be good, check the car's connection to the battery is good.

Bonnet bras - Yea or Nay?
That's actually a very good way of looking at the issue. Was the £250 for the complete job, start to finish?

That's grand, thanks very much. 👍

Rear Mirror Sensors and Cameras
In a brief burst of usefulness, I was looking to mount my dash-cam today. While looking for somewhere suitable to position it, I noticed there are a fair few sensors on and around the rear-view mirror. Having a search around the forums, it seems I have the "lowline" camera, but I can only guess at what it's for. Does anyone know? (Is it for adjusting the LED light matrix pattern, maybe?) I'm assuming the others are a rain sensor, a sensor for the auto lights, and a sensor for the auto-dipping mirror. But does anyone know for sure what each of these 5 sensors/cameras does?

Bonnet bras - Yea or Nay?
I tend not to worry about stone chips on plastic, because while they look bad, they don't cause rust. But that's quite some protection. 😄

Bonnet bras - Yea or Nay?
Yeah, this is something I've thought about too. My usual course of action is to touch up the stone-chip so it doesn't rust.

Bonnet bras - Yea or Nay?
I've never thought of having one in the past, but on my current car, I'm tempted to get one for long journeys on the motorway. Anyone got a bonnet-bra? What is your experience with it?

Power Corrupts
When I was an apprentice, one of the lads had a Dolly Sprint. That was a nice car. 😊

Car Mats and Fuel - new car
I got a full tank of fuel and the dealer went halves on the spare tyre kit. The SE L has mats fitted as standard.

vRs 2.0 TSI - Upgraded front grill and (possibly) aircon radiator?
This is one option on a new grill. http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-III/Octavia-III-front-grille-in-OEM-honeycomb-design-KI-R There's even one for sale on Briskoda. As for how much it increases airflow, I couldn't say. Looks nice though.

I'll have to experiment a bit, though some of the differences in our experiences may be explained by different body types. Of these three below, I am "the giraffe", with freakishly long legs and arms in proportion to my body. (6'4" tall, with 6'7" arm-span and 37" inside-leg). I work with a guy at work who has "the alligator" body type, and has short limbs in proportion to his body. (I haven't measured him, it would be weird.)

To save fuel on take-off, maybe? VTOL uses a lot of fuel.

What would you change about your Octavia?
Yeah, most of the time I listen to streaming music, but in my car it's an unwelcome novelty to not be able to simply bung one of my CDs in and listen to that. I haven't yet tried to stream music from my phone via the car. Griping aside, I have found out my car works just fine with a 64GB SD card, which will take a zillion MP3s, so it's just lack of familiarity, I suppose. (I'll have to see just how big a card my car will take and work with. The sales guy said 32GB max, but I think I should be able to get a 256GB card working just fine.)

MK3 Octavia front doors seem a bit small
Well I'm glad I'm not alone. Sort of glad, anyway. I'll just have to pretend it's a low-slung super-car for the time being: Everyone has trouble getting in and out of those things. But it means my long-term plans for the car are different now. I won't want to be struggling to get in and out of my car in 10 years.

A good test drive is the secret to a car sale, IMO.

Changing cars
I was thinking about this recently, and I like to be "sold" a car, as it were. I don't mind who's doing the selling, as long as they're enthusiastic about the product they're selling. For some reason, car sales people seem to have next to no opinions on the vehicles they sell. They seem to try and read what you're inclined towards and say whatever they think you want to hear. They also don't seem to know as much as I would like about the cars they sell, which I find infuriating. I went to one of the nearly-new car supermarkets a while ago when I was trying to select a car, and had a fantastic salesman (from my perspective). As we were walking along talking about what I liked and thought I wanted, I indicated a lovely-looking Alfa Romeo. "Nooooo! You don't want one of those.", he said. "Why?" I asked innocently, knowing the answer. "Too unreliable." he said. Now that's the sort of honesty in a salesman I like. It just bugs me that they ask a whole load of questions, and never particularly steered me in the direction of the car I wanted. So I had to do a shed-load of research to find a car suitable for me. And I still managed to buy on without a CD player. 🙄

I haven't flown since 2000, so it's not a problem but it would be if I flew.

I have my seat fully lowered, so it might be I need to raise my seat a bit so I don't need a crane and a helicopter to help me exit the car.

What would you change about your Octavia?
I'd like a CD player, which I just assumed would have been fitted, but all I've got is an SD card slot. Genuinely surprised at that omission on SE-L spec.

I'm 6'4" and a bit under 17st. I drive with my seat right back and the steering wheel as close to me as possible. When I test drove my Octavia, I struggled to get out of the car a little, and I put that down to me being careful not to damage someone else's car. But it really is a bit of a struggle for me to get out of the car. I'm not some old crock who struggles to get out of a chair, I'm just big. Am I the only Octavia driver to be experiencing this? I'm starting to feel like Tyrone here.

Changing cars
Ours was a mess. I bought it in a hurry off a guy I knew at work and didn't do my due diligence. So we ended up with a written-off and rebuilt car with a poor paint job on the bonnet that gradually peeled off. As it was a punishment car, the fact the paint was peeling off wasn't a problem, but lesson learned when it comes to buying vehicles privately.
