  1. I've got the oil and filters now, and I just have some minor questions. The fluid level pipe, has that been changed over the years? Like if it's been made longer allowing more fluid to stay in the gearbox or vice versa. Also I'm wondering if anyone knows the diameter of the oil filter inlet, so I can put a hose over it and use a funnel. (Not buying VWs expensive hose!) Can I just measure the oil filter hole? Since I have the filter ready to go in.
  2. How did this play out in the end? Interested to hear since I too love in northern Sweden and driving a Skoda!
  3. I'm having problem with my Octavia, I measured a 1amp power consumption with the car being off. Is there any standard faults worth checking before I start pulling out fuses? Is there a way I can isolate this even further? I have a aftermarket car alarm I DONT like. Not that it gives me any fuzz, but I just dont like the blue LED lightning up my entire garage :P I havent had this car for a long time, maybe a month. So I'm still skim reading the forums for knowledge about theese cars. Up to now I havent read about any battery drain issues.
  4. If the timing belt timing is wrong, it can mess up your fuel consumption.
  5. Yes ofc, but for example when running 110km/h my maxidot is showing between 6 and 7l/100km. 2nd average shows between 6,5 and 7. When I calculated the consumption during fill up, I got 7,1/100km.
  6. I would love to have this consumption! I am nowhere near that. So what can cause bad mpg? Air filter Wheel misalignment Brakes being applied Leaky injector (does this show up on the maxidot? As decreased mpg?) Constant dpf regenerating Shorting some electrical component? (Makes the generator go crazy?) MAF sensor? Intake manifold air leakage? Egr malfunction? Anything more I can check? How to troubleshoot MAF sensor?
  7. I have 19 miles to work. So it's getting enough heat still only getting 39mpg.
  8. Interesting, can I check with VCDS? I have the OBDeleven, and I should be able to see if vcds supports it!
  9. I'm also not happy with my consumption. Don't know how to convert l/mil but it's 0,71L/Mil. That's 39mpg imperial. Sometimes it feels like the car runs much leaner. And sometimes it runs more thirsty. Haven't worked out how it works yet. Need to check my dipstick so see if the oil level is rising.
  10. This is happening quite often in Volvo V50s with dpf. I know because I've had the same problem. Problem is that the car is constantly regenerating the DPF. Diesel runs down the oil pan from the cylinders. Resulting in rising oil levels, and eventually the crank house ventilation will suck oil and diesel making the engine accelerating even if you turn off the key. Only way to save the engine is to put in highest gear and brake it to a stop. I'm pretty sure this is also the case with these engines. Especially after the diesel scandal. I think the fix is putting in more fuel to lower nox gasses etc.
  11. That's a common fault on many cars, leaky cap. Try switching to a genuine one Maybe you even have your old one laying around?
  12. Hello! I'm looking for a replacement for my Nexus head unit. I think I have a FL Octy, I'll post a pic of the interior. Do I have the 1z3? Would be sweet with Bluetooth and handsfree. What can I replace my unit with?
  13. Okay, how much does the consumption go up? I only got 39mpg last refill, think it's a little high? Trying to rule out constant regenerating.
  14. How can you tell whether it's regening? Do you notice it with consumption? I haven't driven the car all that much so I know what's normal and not. Also, how is the system built? Injector in the dpf?
  15. I've found some oil I'll order now. Febi Bilstein 39070 £10/L!
  16. Not in Sweden unfortunately. Maybe I should contact Skoda Sweden and ask why it isn't the same here . I have the OBDeleven so I can see the gearbox temperatures. What brand is the TripleQX?
  17. I've decided to do the oil change myself, old car, slot of miles on it, pretty expensive to let a shop do it. £300! I want to cut prices and order a cheaper alternative to the OEM VW oil. I've seen really cheap prices for Mannol oil? Is that familiar for someone? If not Mannol what have you tried? And filter, maybe best to buy from vw? Thanks!
  18. Did you get it to work? Im having issues myself and I want to see if I cant fix it myself!
  19. I couldnt get any life from it. I had 12V from the cables in the trunk. Heres some pictures of the motor, and heres also the puller i had to use for the wiper arm
  20. I got the motor off, but the mechanism isn't seized. I had some fluid in there as well Can I use a multimeter and check if there's any power coming to the motor? Or can I run at outside the car at 12v to see if it works?
  21. I work as a builder on a hospital, and they ordered a glass that with a flip on a switch turns the clear glass into frosted glass instantly. It's powered a a small transformer. It's approximately 200cm X 140cm. And it costs £2800 Maybe it's the same electrical components
  22. Okay, maybe I'll just plug the washing fluid. It doesn't seem to get so dirty when driving. And when it is dirty it's pretty wet anyways . Thanks for the superb description!
  23. Hey! I'm trying to find a written guide or video on a teardown of the trunk interior, and also how to disassemble the wiper motor. I tried searching but I haven't found much. I'm asking if anyone could point me in the right direction? Also I've read that these tend to break quite often. Reasons being wiper fluid dripping inside and onto the motor. Thanks from a Swedish DIYer
  24. I think you can find cheaper alternatives. But there was only one I could find on a German car parts site, and it was hilariously expensive. Does anyone have part number for heated side mirror left side? It's a left hand drive car.
