What sort of sorcery was that?! I will make a sacrifice to the stone chip Gods - a PPF at the front... I'm a bit of a perfectionist, unfortunately, so once I see a defect, I cannot un-see it and haunts me in my dreams, lol. Also, I'm concerned that if I had 5-6 stone chips already for the 5 months I had the car, what will happen in a couple of years time...

Yeah, I will do the bonnet and the front bumper only for the time-being...

Being a Car Sprayer & Refinnisher says a lot... I'm a simple solutions consultant, so don't really have the skills, nor the appropriate working environment to do the job. Doing it on the driveway is not great, is it?

Well, it is, but it's never that simple, is it? Did you do the PPF yourself?

Yeah, I know about the water-based paint, but the top coat is not water-based, as far as I'm aware... It's just ridiculous how easy it is to chip the paitn! The PPF is so damn expensive where I live, but I'm wrapping the bonnet and front bumper, which are mostly affected by the stone chipping in my opinion.

Hey, guys, Just wondering how you're finding the paint on the MK4 in terms of resistance to stone chips. I've got mine for about 5 months now and noticed quite a few chips on the bonnet, mainly around the badge. (Not sure how visible is on the pic, but I'm talking about the white dots next to the badge.) It seems it's a stone magnet, lol. I've had a few chips on my previous MK 3.5, but they appeared within 2 years of owning it, not 5 months. I thought I've learnt my lesson, so I am trying to stay further back from lorries and other cars on the road, and haven't even heard any stones hitting the car (maybe the music is too loud, lol). I have the car fully ceramic coated, which apparently doesn't help much. Maybe I'm too much focused on the details but thinking of putting a ppf at least on the bonnet. What's other people's experience with that?🤔🙄

Tried this - while it worked a couple of times, the third time it directly dialled 999 and I couldn't cancel the call... so after a short apologetic (from my side) conversation with the emergency call centre, they hung up and I've never tried pushing the SOS button again since then.

Interesting... so is there an official update available already? As I tried to book mine a month ago, they said it was a known issue, but no update was available, so they'll book me in when an update comes... wonder if I should chase Skoda Driveline again...

Yeah, had a similar issue with the positioning in Android Auto, but the car SatNav was fine, so I think it was Android's issue...

Did the software fix solved the issue?

Funny (sort of) thing happened today. The usual pop and SOS system freeze two times closely to each other. The first time, the SOS restarted by itself, the second - got the error message on the dashboard and that was it. As I was driving, I tried pressing the SOS button - no effect. A few minutes later, though, the system restarted and an SOS call was initiated without me being able to cancel it... So after a short chat with a nice guy at 999, during which I appologised and explained what had happened, he ended the call. So, long story short, be careful when pushing the SOS button, even when it's inactive. I guess, I will have to play with the fuses...

I had mine on my old O3 hardwired to the rear wiper fuse, which was also not always live. So how does it work with the always live connection - does the cam stays always on, even after turning the ignition off?

I'm using my good old Nextbase 512GW powered off the usb-c in the rear view mirror mount. Got a 1 m usb-c to usb-mini cable and just hid it behind the mirror so it's not visible and voila! I think it has the parking mode running off the battery, so it doesn't necessary need to be powered from the usb constantly, but never tried this...

What does Canton have to do with the emission laws?? Does it increase the emissions that much.... 🤔🤔🤔 That's a nice pack btw...

I think that's the million dollar question... I got my vRS Estate at the end of April, and had only minor software glitches, the most prominent at the moment is the SOS system error... Other than than - quite happy with the car. I'd say that every new car will come with the latest updates of the software. Yet, being in the software business, I'd also say that every software update can fix something, but can also break something else, so it will always be a chance that something will not work properly.

So another update from me... Went to the Peak District this weekend - nice view, eh? Anyways, so overall I did 471 miles and heard the popping sound only once. Straight away the SOS light started flashing red, but did not get the error on the screen. Probably a few seconds later, the light went solid green again. There was an software update available, which did not provide any info of what's included. Installed it on Sunday, when we came back home as the reception was better. No new version on the infotainment, though... the same as before: Yet, today got the full experience again - a double pop and the SOS error with the error message. Did the try the fix @AndyT60 suggested and it worked, but after a couple of tries. Well, that's it from me for the moment. Thought to give you all an update.
