  1. Has anyone bought and installed this? About half the price quoted by a dealer. https://www.vision-coding.co.uk/products/skoda-smartlink-activation?variant=46287076655420&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwuJ2xBhA3EiwAMVjkVA49E2uGu-FC3-_v-NIluCw7imSOUF4CrT8wfxICUXrUFYlY0s5M2hoCBX0QAvD_BwE
  2. And about time too. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/apr/02/uk-government-review-headlight-glare-drivers-complaints
  3. We move frequently between four boroughs - three in England and one in Wales. There are no similarities - food waste in with the garden waste in one place, separate caddies in another and in the landfill in another. Some have a big bin for all recyclables because they have huge separators, others expect the householder to do the separation. Even the Recycling / Waste collection yards are different - book a timeslot with number plate into some, prove you're a resident in another and no plasterboard in one (yes, really). In one I pre-separated out the plastic bottles. cans and glass before my journey because there were three different boxes for them at home. On arrival, they all went into the same skip. Remebering each Borough's disposal rules is a nightmare. As for bin colours, they're purple and black in Liverpool, not red or blue or orange or green to avoid the Council being seen as biased. It really needs unifying across GB if not the whole of the UK.
  4. Ess Aitch One Tee. Just had my pacemaker replaced on 12th Jan 24. The cardio surgeon said it had a Lithium battery. How long before I spontaneously combust?
  5. Perhaps I should clarify further. Most of my journeys are 50 miles plus - the vast proportion without stopping at 60mph or more. Regen was rare, then became every time the engine was switched off. The stop-start rarely kicked in. After adding the Wynn's, it took another 300 miles or so before the post switch off regen didn't occur and stop-start worked. I hadn't changed my driving pattern significantly so it's hard to tell if the car sorted itself out or the Wynn's was effective. I too have doubts similar to those described above. OTOH, Wynn's 28263 gets very positive reviews on Amazon and Halfords/Feefo. Either way, the car's running better.
  6. My 1.6 diesel Octavia DGS estate is coming up 100K miles and has recently started frequently keeping the fan on after switching off the engine. I assumed this was about regen with the DPF system. Most of my journeys are well over 50 miles (Anglesey - Chester - Manchester - Brighouse) and for short journeys of say less than 5 miles I use the bus. I became worried as I felt this should not be happening as often as it did. I decided to investigate if there was a fuel additive which might help, and eventually added some Wynn's DPF cleaner to a full tank of diesel. My usual response to such additives is that it is expensive and ineffective snake oil but after about 50 miles of continuous motorway driving, the fan over-run ceased, the idle revs dropped and the stop-start began to operate as it used to. I am delighted and surprised. Two tankfuls and a thousand miles later, all seems well. Is this a coincidence?
  7. TP is radio announcements transmitted by local radio stations - totally independent and different from the info needed by SatNavs to re-route your current journey.
  8. I've just come back from 10 days in France and the TMC was disabled there too, though not sure if that is significant, I did have a lot of trouble locating French destinations on the car's stanav (entering Lat and Long was the best but lengthy) and ended up using Google Maps via my phone which was very simple and straightforward. I don't if it's possible to convert the Amundsen system to display Google Maps via Android Auto, but it's an option I'd consider. (Amundsen Touch Screen, 2016 Octavia)
  9. If anyone can supply me with basic coding or an executable to amend my Amundsen to accept INRIX TMC data, I'd be delighted. Cheers/Iechyd da John - off to see UB40 in the Piece Hall. 👍🏻
  10. I've had similar reply from Skoda, pleading ignorance: "Thank you for your patience. We understand your frustration and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We are currently still verifying your complaint regarding non-functional TMC with the responsible department and we are addressing the issue with the highest priority. We are doing our best to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding. For any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. With kind regards, Support for Digital Services ŠKODA AUTO a.s "
  11. I dropped off my Octavia earlier at the local VAG/Skoda/SEAT independent. I enquired about the disabled TMC while there. They said many owners across the marques had been in stating their TMC was no longer active. The garage told me they had passed on owners' concerns to VAG but were still waiting to hear something definite. So nothing to add really. 😕
  12. My Bro-in-law has a 72 plate Octavia. It uses Android Auto, so no need for trafficmaster. 5G Data costs are paid by the user. I have noticed that my admittedly old Garmin portable sat Nav no longer has RDS traffic info It's all changing It'd be nice if VAG/Skoda acknowledged that
  13. You could well be right, but I remain optimistic. I have submitted my VIN and a photo of the screen saying "No reports available" and TMC logo crossed out. Apparently, "one of their agents will be contacting me."
  14. Not quite.... They replied remarkably promptly: "Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. We understand that the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) on your vehicles sat nav/media system has not been displaying any traffic information. To be able to further investigate the issue, please provide us with additional information as a reply to this email: - VIN number of your vehicle. - A photo with the TMC from your infotainment system. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your patience and understanding. With kind regards, Support for Digital Services ŠKODA AUTO a.s T: 00800 80 247 247 *****@*****.tld, www.skoda-auto.com "
  15. Like others, I contacted Skoda UK Customer Service, complaining that TMC info was disabled. I asked when and how it would be restored. Here's their reply: I'm about to write to the Digital Support Team......
  16. Apologies for my late arrival at the thread, but I too have TMC disabled with a red line through the icon. I was a bit slow noticing it but my own research suggests that INRIX / TrafficMaster no longer transmit on FM - not unsurprising as FM's days are numbered. Hopefully it will be re-instated or Skoda can introduce a way for my Amundsen to receive traffic info vi DAB.
  17. Many thanks, I'll D/L it shortly. Update: D/L'd, expanded, transferred, installed and working just fine! Many thanks.
