  1. That's good to know. I need a left hand side , I presume you had to.tke the bumper off to get to the light unit ?
  2. Thanks mate. Do you have a link to the eBay site you used ? And what was the quality like ? Thanks
  3. Hi all, I'm just reviving this thread to see if anyone knows if there are available from skoda dealers or are they only available these days as copy ones from eBay? I had a bump and realised my headlight is loose so need to sort it before my MOT. Thanks
  4. Just a thought but what is the tread on your tyres like across the full tread pattern ? I suppose poor tread may cause poor traction, meaning all the usual interventions reduce spin meaning you feel bogged down. 🤔 My scout 150 hardly ever flashes any traction control and it seems the haldex does a lot of the heavy lifting when things get slippy.
  5. I've ended up with a broken crimp connector on a 25mm sq alternator cable. Could a garage or a car audio place fit a new connector and if so how much do you reckon it would be? I guess it's "beer token" territory but wondered where to take it. My crimping tool fits 10mm sq cable max. 😢 Cheers
  6. Hi all, last night I collided with a deer on a rural road at about 30-40mph. The result was a broken grill and it popped the top of a headlight washer. I'm not wanting to go via the insurance and have my premium hiked up next year so what are my options for diy ? I thought about getting a grill on ebay and taking our the plastic welds so the old.one will come away from the bumper ... can this be done ??? Thanks
  7. This is a good discussion folks ! I have a single axle 4 berth van which I used to tow with a 105bhp 1.9tdi my 2 which had a dealer fitted Swan towbar that was way to low ... to the point where it dragged the sockets when going up a bank and bent the bracket golding them. I used to keep the nose weight to about 40kg and put heavy items in the van cross the axle to help with this. Now I have the joy of towing with a 150bhp mk3 scout which is a world's away from the old mk2 experience and is great tow car but still stick to the 50kg nose weight. Cheers
  8. It will be interesting to see what the oil looks like this time round or of there is much gunk on the filter. 🤔
  9. They'd probably argue that their 6k fix would have solved the issue too. 🤣. Glad you got it sorted and saved yourself a load of cash !
  10. I had a 1986 Micra as my first car which had a pin hole in the sump which use to leak oil. Every 3 months I'd park it on a bank with the front end higher to stop it leaking and get to work with some degreaser and chemical metal. I never changed the sump in the 2 years I owned the car 👍
  11. On my old FWD estate I'd often feel understeer on corners before the rear would wander but when it went it often corrected itself quickly with a shimmy like you describe. Cold conditions and old tyres obviously made this worse and new tyres made such a difference. I might be wrong but the vrs has independent rear suspension I think which should have helped although more sport oriented tyres with less wet grip might have added to your woes. On winding roads I often have the sat nav zoomed in so I can see what's coming up which also helps too. Like Toot said, all's well that ends well ..... it's amazing how clever the tech is that is lurking in the background ! Cheers
  12. Hi Skodanewb, Not wanting to be a smart 4rse, and I hope you take this in good spirit, but maybe Rule125 of the highway code has the answer 🤔😉 Cheers. Rule 125 The speed limit is the absolute maximum and does not mean it is safe to drive at that speed irrespective of conditions. Unsafe speed increases the chances of causing a collision (or being unable to avoid one), as well as its severity. Inappropriate speeds are also intimidating, deterring people from walking, cycling or riding horses. Driving at speeds too fast for the road and traffic conditions is dangerous. You should always reduce your speed when the road layout or condition presents hazards, such as bends sharing the road with pedestrians, particularly children, older adults or disabled people, cyclists and horse riders, horse drawn vehicles and motorcyclists weather conditions make it safer to do so driving at night as it is more difficult to see other road users.
  13. I really like the Cross Climate 2 as I often found the longitudinal tread pattern on summer tyres act like a set set of skis once the start to slip on grass amd mud. I've towed a caravan on grass with them and never had a problem but some of that could be the AWD drive kicking in too. I've not had them in snow yet but in the cold they definitely seem to keep their grip better than a summer tyre which seem to harden up and lose their bite. They aren't cheap but as they are the only thing that is in contact with the road I didn't mind paying about £40 a tyre more than a summer tyre. Cheers
  14. Hi Toot, When I got it it had Centurato P7 road tyres all round, so after getting a few years out of them I've swapped to Michelin Cross Climate 2 about 18months ago which are in a different league. The chevron thread pattern seems to make the difference when it's slippy underfoot. Cheers
  15. A few years back I replaced my 12yr old mk2 estate with a 3 year octavia scout. I was never impressed with the old cars ability on anything other than tarmac and as a keen off road runner I'd dread arriving at a race and being directed to a field to park in. So the other day, after a few nights of rain, I arrived at a busy race only to be directed into the overflow car park. At this point I was told there was a few cars stuck , including a LR discovery, but it was the only option for parking. Mode button pressed , off road mode engaged, and I let the haldex and michelin CC2s do their work. Safe to say I drove in past the carnage and parked up ... absolutely no drama. Looking at the disco though, it clearly had road tyres on , which was.probably the issue, but the Citroën doing stationary wheel spins had no chance. Despite my scout now being 6 years old I cant get over it's abilities and feelibg its the best all round performing car I have ever owned. Skoda no longer market the scout in the UK except to emergency services which is such a shame. Ok , its not a tractor or a tank, and its off road abilities will have limits, but I'd buy another one a heartbeat ! Cheers
  16. The tow bar will be an expensive option just to carry bikes. Have you considered a roof rack or frame on the boot lid ?
  17. I'd agree, it looks like the one that was factory fit on my 2016 Scout
  18. Go and see the clown who was setting up my wheels on a Hunter Hawkeye who said it didn't matter which version of octavia he chose off the drop down list despite having a 4wd scout. So he picked the first one on the list, and was suprised that I more or less had each wheel on a different continent which would need the adjustment of a tectonic plate. Luckily his boss was on hand who obviously knew of his circus skills and stepped in 🙄
  19. What fits in the false floor plastic thing. Is there space to hold the retractable shelf when stored under the floor ? And what else ? 🤔
  20. I have a foot pump where the first aid kit should be and a warning triangle in the other strap. Cheers
  21. Hi all,The oil specs always confuse me so can I check if this is the right engine oil for my 2016 2.0tdi octavia scout 150bhp manual. Many thanks in advance !
  22. I noticed a similar thing the other day but didn't think much about it. The TMC icon was inactive. I never find it that accurate anyway . Cheers
  23. As a genuine question, will better speakers improve the sound or will there be limitations due to the head unit ? I'd prefer better sound but dont want the faff of changing the radio but swapping the speakers like you are planning sounds much easier. Cheers
  24. Hi CS, That's a shame, I'd agree that this is firmly in bodge territory then. I'd be cutting up a coke can to make up a new contact to slide in next to the old one . I'm not sure if solder would take to that though so might opt for a bit of copper cut from an old pipe and sanded till is thin enough. Happy bodging 👍
