  1. Hi, I had a very similar problem last summer . Long story but in essence I had a weel speed sensor wire repaired a few years back and last summer I got an intermittent ABS light come on again whilst on holiday, along with tpms ,power steering, and traction control. I thought at the time it was the wheel sensor cable playing up again so would sort when I got back. Within a day of arriving home the lights where on permanently then one.morning the battery was dead. I presumed it was a duff battery as it was 5 years old so got a new one and the following day that was dead too. So charged it up, got it to my local garage and was dreading a hunt for an electrical fault somewhere but he decided to sort the wheel speed sensor cable and low and behold all was sorted and the battery never went flat again. So I had a new £200 battery for no reason. So .... I recon if you get a wheel speed sensor fault then that it the culprit causing a short from a dodgy wire. Hope that helps.
  2. How low are the revs when you refer to low down torque ? For overtaking in my 2016 150scout I'd drop a gear so I'm around 2000revs (so the turbo is awake) and in sport mode it does fine. To be honest, with the haldex it feels very sure-footed too. Maybe try sport mode and give it a few more revs ???
  3. What driving mode are you in ? If you are using eco then it can be sleepy but in sport there should be sufficient shove. It won't be vrs fast but certainly isn't lacking like you describe. Cheers
  4. Hi Rob, I had exactly the same issue on my 2016 scout and opted for the bulb upgrade but it really wasn't worth it in my view. They bulbs all claim a certain percentage increase over a standard headlamp but.i have a feel g that the standard H7 bulb is already much better than what the original standard is based on. For my money if I was spending it again I would go for the standard H7 or stretch to the Osram Nightbreaker Silver which aren't that dear. You can get 200% bulbs etc but the lifespan is much less and for not much benefit. I too wanted LED or Xenon brightness but sadly I thin the Halogen I whatever for can never match them. Here's a thread I did with some before and after pics. Cheers
  5. I love the way the satnav takes you off at a motorway junction slip road.... and then back down the other sliproad onto the motorway again for no reason. Is mine the only car whose sat nav does this ? I often wonder what it's upto when it says to take the next junction but when I zoom out I can see its just going to have me join the motorway again to carry on. Bonkers 🤪
  6. No doubt I'll be kicked off the forum now... been nice knowing you all . I'll get my coat 🤣
  7. I had my engine flushed and the tank replaced under the approved used warranty. I know the flush is expensive due to the labour but does anyone know what it involves.... does it actually take someone being with the car for 8 hrs or is it a case of set it going and come back when it's done ???? I have a mate who got paid overtime as an apprentice plumber for draining a big header tank at a school. All he had to do was turn the stop **** off and then turn all the taps on ...he then sat and watched tv all night whilst getting paid a full shift 😄
  8. On the BMW forums there's quite a few comments regarding the clunking Guibo when taking up drive but I appreciate other symptoms might be more common on our cars. The Indy I use said they used Skoda parts in the past for the Guido but could now get a decent alternative which works out a bit cheaper. Hope yours doesn't give you any trouble before you get where you need to be 👍
  9. Apologies for my typo filled post above which seems to have been plagued by autocorrect ! I hope you get the idea of what I was suggesting, check the Guido to look for cracking in the rubber or see if there is a knock/clunk when you take up drive. (Hopefully I've checked the spelling correctly this time) 😅 Cheers
  10. Hi Huw, I've got the same car as you but a 2016 model with slightly less miles. I to have a noise which has come one recently which disappears under load but is a bit of a whine that sounds like tyres when on a concrete road. I'd also noticed another noise which was a slight clunk when engaging the clutch from a standstill that defiantly sounded like the drivetrain taking up slack. I had it serviced on Thursday at a good local VAG independent garage who noted crossing in the rear propshaft doughnut coupling (I've also seen this referred to as a "Guido" ) and having looked into it further on YouTube it definitely seems to fit with the clunk when taking up drive. Basically it's a rubber coupler between the propshaft and the rear diff/haldex to take up some of the stress bit when it wears it loses elasticity and clunk's rather than offers an element of shock absorption I the drive train. I'm hoping that will also cure the whine I get when not accelerating as I suppose when it's under load the slack is then up but when coasting I suppose it would allow an element of movement/rattle which might come across as a whine. If that's a problem them it's relatively straightforward but she's involve the faff of removing the exhaust etc to get to it and apparently you have to make sure they are fitted in a certain orientation. Youtube has a lot of videos about this for BMW due to most of them being rear wheel drive but not many for VAG cars unless the have 4x4 as that would mean a propshaft to the rear wheels and a doughnut being in place. Might be worth seeing if you have a similar clunk just as you lift the clutch. Cheers
  11. I couldn't find a suitable forum to ask this on Briskoda so felt this was the only place ... no problem if mods want to move to a better section. Basically my 17year old passed today but ive been quoted 320 to add her to the existing policy for our 2009 fiesta til the end of may. Is it possible to have her own policy as well as our existing one as she can get her own for £750 a year with a black box. I wasn't sure if 2 people could insure the same car . Any thoughts / suggestions ? Thanks
  12. I agree ... but I think one of the issues is that cars have become so technical these days that drivers aren't inclined to do anything with their cars until a light comes on. So we have TPMS in this case to switch on the warning light but that itself requires setting when the tyres are inflated and even then it still lets you set it at the wrong pressures. I'm not surprised people forget the simple things when cars are so packed full of driver aids which take away from understanding the basics ... TPMS, autowipers, self dipping headlights, self dimming rear view mirror, reversing sensors, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, electronic parking brake, start stop, self parking ,and in the case of some cars .... semi autonomous driving ! Cheers
  13. Crikey, at 48psi would it not feel as if the car was on skates though ?? I've never ran them that high 😳
  14. I'm always a bit freaked out by the pressure needed with a full load . 3.3bar is 48psi ... which always strikes me as being high. Do you guys pump them up to that level ever ? I'm similar to the OP in that 30psi has always been my goto pressure but it looks like I may need more air in my tyres too. Does it matter what speed rating , load rating , or make or is the lable applicable to all tyres based o rim size ? Thanks
  15. I would think most of the loss when towing would be due to wind resistance so a caravan would be more detrimental on mpg than a trailer weighing the same. In the 70s as a kid I remember seeing cars with deflectors attached to their roof racks when towing caravans in order to streamline things better. Wonder if you can still get them ??? 🤔
  16. I get about 30 - 32mpg with a caravan in my 2.0tdi 150 scout on a long run. I have a 1973 land-rover too which does 16-18mpg normally, and the same with a caravan attached 🤔 😅 Cheers
  17. Sometimes they seem to revert to the "Random" setting where they do what they like ! Mine generally work but then go through periods of going crazy in light rain or hardly on when it pours down 🤪
  18. Hi all, I have a 2016 scout manual 150tdi (53kmiles) and today at a junction I could hear a clunk from the rear as I balanced on the clutch and took up drive. It sounded a bit like an exhaust rattle but definitely only happened as i took up the bite point with the clutch. The Haldex was last serviced a few months ago but I'm sure I can hear a slight whine when I'm not accelerating and the clunk does seem to be like free play in the driveshaft (like on my 1973 landrover when i take up the drive). When testing things there was no clunk in reverse, only in first. Any ideas .... wheel bearing ?? Haldex bearing ?? Exhaust rattle ??? Thanks
  19. I kept the alloy spare wheel from my mk2 and have that in the boot well of my mk3. I checked at the time and can't see any reason why it wouldn't fit.... unless others know better though.
  20. I'm sure I have the tick box so will check this out 👍
  21. I never knew any of this as I thought the auxiliary heater was only fitted if it was the Webasto fuel burning one. Am I right in thinking that I will have tthis electric version in my 2016 2.0tdi 150 manual Scout, and all I need to do is tick the box on the infotainment system to enable it ? Cheers
  22. I had a split silica bag which was replaced as part of the skoda used car warranty that came with the car. Main dealer flushed system etc and replaced the tank ... I didn't ask for it but the one they replaced it with didn't have the silica bag in it. Cheers
  23. Hi Emird, the off road function is one of the driving modes you can select with the choices being Eco, Normal, sport, and Off Road .... click the Mode Button in front of the gear stick and select Off Road on the display. I have a 2016 Scout manual 2.0tdi and generally use this mode when conditions are not ideal such as wet grass, gravel, mud etc and have found when the Hill Decent kicks in its generally good at holding the speed steady. I tend to think the Off road mode makes the drive system more "alert" as you are telling it that the conditions are tricky. So all I can assume is that the situation the OP is describing is due to the over alert system activating when in reality the road conditions don't require it (and normal mode would be more suitable). It also tends to be used at slower speeds in lower gears which due to the torque at low gears means driving can be jerky anyway especially when you have told the car it is "off road" when it isn't. Generally I've found HDC works well, but only works in off road mode, and flashes red on the dashboard when it activates. I wouldn't say it was wonderful as I've never truly taken the car full off road but it's been helpful when it have activated.
  24. Thanks folks 👍
  25. This has got me baffled, not the dog being the size of a horse, but that the double press disables the internal alarm. I'm sure on my Mk1 Octavia the double press deadlocked the car but it now seems that is no longer the case. I've had a Mk2 for 12 years and now Mk 3 .... every night for 14 years I've been disabling the interior alarm thinking I was deadlocking it so it was safe for the night 🤣. So how do you deadlock a Mk3 then ??? Cheers
