  1. Think they were referring more to the compression test for tolerances. But they seem to think the VW guideline is 1l/1,000m even. I have gone back to them and said I'm not even reaching the manuals guideline of 0.5l/1,000km for oil, and even that is too much realistically
  2. If im honest, I think they are trying to drag it out past the 6 months so I then can't open a complaint with the finance company 😞 Whats strange is they said they carried out a compression test while they had the vehicle for 2 days, but when I asked for the results they just said "its all within tolerances" so im not convinced they actually did anything.
  3. Bit of an update with this. Ive now owned the vehicle for just shy of 6 months and covered around 4k miles. The garage collected the car from me, drained the oil, measured and filled it back up and then covered over 600 miles in 2 days. They then drained the oil and measure the difference which was apparently 150ml. They then filled it back up to max and delivered it back to me. I got a bit of a telling off by them as apparently, I shouldnt be using 5w40 504 (but I didnt really want to argue) Fast forward to today, I checked the oil and after about 490 miles the dipstick was showing half way again. The plugs were pulled in October and I am a bit worried about this one: The car is booked in tomorrow at a garage to have the plugs pulled and a borescope inspection to see if any oil residue is present on the top of the pistons. The garage (who supplied the vehicle) have just contacted me saying that all EA888 Gen 3 engines use this amount of oil, however I am not convinced.
  4. Looks like ill be changing mine soon then, still running 225/35 R19 and really cant get on with the road noise.
  5. Cheers mate, yeh they look quite similar to mine in honesty. It was around a litre for 1500 miles, I've recorded the mileage now and will check the level again in around 1000miles to see how it is
  6. AHH I did wonder why there was slight oil on those parts. That would be appreciated if you could dig out the photos just for me to compare. I'll have to look at getting the cam cover sorted, not sure how much that would cost though 😞
  7. Although they are the NGK equivalent to genuine OE they were not genuine OE parts if that makes sense. The garage said sometimes there can be variations between the genuine parts and the aftermarket equivalent. They have fitted genuine now so I guess will see how they are in 1k miles.
  8. I personally haven't, it's not to say the previous owner hasn't though. I'll try and find out
  9. I had my 2016 DSG repaired recently at a cost of £215 from a Skoda dealer. The part itself is around £60 (depending if you have the black or white version) and it doesn't look to bad to do (there are instructions knocking about on how to change it)
  10. Hi all, I posted some time ago regarding excessive oil consumption on my 2016 TSI VRS which has covered 88k miles. Today I took the car to a performance specialist and had the PCV valve changed, while it was there I asked them to change the spark plugs too. When I collected the car they told me the engine doesn't look happy going on the state of the plugs they pulled out. They didn't really go into much as could be a number of things but advised me to monitor oil consumption now genuine plugs had been fitted and the pcv replaced. I'm now expert when it comes to spark plugs, so would it be possible to tell me what looks bad on these please? I assume it is mainly the first plug in the picture? These were apparently fitted in 2021 20k miles ago. Regards
  11. I've ordered a new pcv valve so will get that fitted soon. I have already informed the garage (they only gave me 3 months warranty) but me informing them is within the 3 months if that makes sense. Mileage has been recorded now and confirmed dipstick is at max so will check it every week or so for any drop.
  12. ok cheers mate, Ive taken it to the garage who have made sure its at max now, after running it up to operating temp and letting it sit for a few minutes. Ill just have to keep an eye on it and see what happens. Thanks all
  13. Just coming up to 3 months now. Havent noticed any other issues, ill top it up and keep an eye on it over the next 1k miles or so and if its still bad ill get a compression test booked.
  14. Just over 87k miles on it
  15. Oh wow, doesn't sound good 😞 I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes. To be fair I am doing alot of short runs, that's why I moved away from a diesel
  16. Thanks ootohere, yes I took it for a run and made sure the indicated oil temp on the maxi dot was above 90 degrees. I parked level turned the engine off and waited for say 5 minutes before checking. I put around 400ml in after checking the level (while at operating temp) and it seems to be around half way/just over. So I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes. Unfortunately it kind of falls in line with what the manual says if they say up to 0.5l for every 1000km. Appreciate your help.
  17. I didnt say I waited for a few minutes at idle, I checked the oil temperature using the maxidot, turned the engine off and then waited for a few minutes before checking the level. Yes, I checked the level after it was serviced previously
  18. Sorry yes you are correct 0.5 in 1000km it states. Yes sorry I meant normal operating temperature as my 'warm check' comment
  19. Hi all, I have read the manual and can see it states that depending on the style of driving the car can use up to 1l of oil every 1000km. This just seems to be a 'general' statement in the manual and doesn't seem to be specific for a particular CC or even fuel type. Basically I had an oil change performed around 1500miles ago (5w40 502) and went to check the oil today (warmed up the car and then waited for a few minutes after turning off) the oil reading was barely on the bottom of the dipstick. Around 500ml later I'm getting a reading about half way up the dipstick. Is this type of oil consumption 'normal' or expected for a EA888 Gen3 (2016 VRS 230) Previous owner looks to have stuck to yearly servicing (albeit it 5w30 oil) Regards
  20. just out of curiosity, did your fan come on all the time if you turned the air con on? Regards
  21. not exactly the same but ive noticed my fan is ALWAYS on if I have the aircon running. If i turn off the aircon it turns off straight away, not sure if this is normal to? Mine is a 2016 VRS 230
  22. Difficult to get genuine G13 coolant now from main dealers as it has been replaced with G12 Evo (just to add more confusion!) G12 Evo is meant to replace G13 and its readymixed (whereas the genuine VW G13 was concerntrate) Ive been told by many VW and Skoda dealers that all they ever use now is G12 Evo in place of G13
  23. Does this help? https://www.akstuning.co.uk/shop/home/1053-genuine-vag-1820tsi-ea888-gen-3-waterpump-thermostat-kit-06L121111P-06L121012L.html There are other parts which are required so ive been told. If you give AKS tuning a call the guys there are amazing and should be able to give you all info you need.
  24. as above, should just unscrew by hand unless its been cross threaded. There is a 'lip' which clicks the cap in place which you need to unscrew past at the beginning, but it should easily be achievable by hand. A new genuine cap is around £20 in the UK 😞
  25. I am trying to remove the trim around the DSG gear selector on my 2016 230. I have removed the rubber 'mat' in the sliding pocket and tried to lift up the trim from here, however it separated the gloss black plastic trim from the row of buttons (where the VRS mode button is) If it makes any difference I have the phone induction plate fitted. Bit scared in case I snap anything so thought I would ask here before proceeding.
