Buying Superb III after SII
I can agree with your reasons for not having a sunroof, but for me they are outweighed by the advantages. The point you make about a sunroof robbing headroom is correct, but I find there's plenty of headroom anyway, so that doesn't matter to me. Oh, and I'm not that small at 6'1". As we're both retired, I rarely go anywhere without SWMBO, so I only have to ask for anything I want and it's handed to me. If it's sunglasses, I don't even have to reach up!

Buying Superb III after SII
I beg to differ regarding sunroofs. Yes, I don't normally use it when driving along, unless we're driving slowly in town, for instance, but I prefer it to a solid roof as it makes the car much brighter inside, especially in winter. Also, I often sit for an hour or two in the car whilst SWMBO's trawling through the rails at T K Maxx or Marks & Spencer and it's very pleasant to sit with the roof open on a warm day when I'm reading. We don't have many shops in Brecon and SWMBO doesn't drive, so we go off to Merthyr Tydfil, Hereford, etc to satisfy her main pleasure in life!

2016 skoda superb 2.0 tdi laurin & klement dsg auto 6spd
Me too. I used to lots of my own maintenance and I've carried out such jobs as replace a head gasket, water pump, brake discs, etc but now I don't do anything like that. For me, it's mainly due to age (I'm 70 soon) and I've had health problems over the years that have included rheumatoid arthritis since my late 20s, which has restricted what I can do. Life was different when I first started driving and I started work in accountancy on £8 per week and couldn't afford to pay someone else to carry out all the maintenance on the car. I'm now retired and in the fortunate position to have a nice house and decent pension, so I can afford to pay someone to service the car. I would guess that far fewer people do any maintenance on cars themselves now with them being much more complicated, but I could be wrong. I said I don't do anything now, but I do regularly check the levels, tyre pressures, etc and carry out simple tasks, such as change the wiper blades rather than pay double the price for the dealer to change them.

2016 skoda superb 2.0 tdi laurin & klement dsg auto 6spd
I waited until SWMBO wanted to go shopping, then whilst I sat in the car for an hour or so whilst she was busy, I worked my way through the controls. Some are quite easy to understand and you don't need the handbook, but others can be a bit more complicated, such as the navigation. I looked at the basics first, then went on from there. I found the easiest way to understand anything with multiple settings is to get a grip on the initial setup first, try it out, then go further into the settings another day once you're happy with the stage you've reached. There are some parts of the navigation system that I've never tried using after owning the car for 4 years! The car is very different to the cars I drove when I first had my licence in the late 1960s. Back then, you learned the controls from reading the handbook in 2 minutes, though they were so simple you hardly needed to read about them. Apart from adjusting your seat and interior mirror, there was nothing else to set..

2017 280 sportline
I had this problem with the glovebox lid when I first had the car, but found if I shut it firmly and square with a hand directly over each latch, it stays shut. If you shut it from the driver's seat, you end up pushing it on the right only and the left latch doesn't engage fully.

New car - questions
I received 3 keys with my 2016 car. Did you buy it from new? Mine was a Škoda management car registered in October 2016 and was 8 months old when I bought it.

No hot air in backseat
I've just remembered I had this problem about 3 years ago, but it turned out it was self induced by me being stupid! I was driving from Brecon to Stansted Airport to collect SWMBO on a bitterly cold winter's day when it stayed below freezing all day (a mild summer day for you in Norway!) I kept on feeling cold air in the car as I was driving and I checked all windows were closed and I couldn't understand why I didn't feel very warm. I stopped at Kettering for a coffee and when I returned to the car, I started to look at where the cold air was coming from. It was obvious when I hit the menu button and it showed the temperature for the rear was set at LO, so it was pumping out freezing cold air all the time I was driving. I don't know why it was set at LO as I very rarely have any back seat passengers. I can only think that something on the back seat slipped forward and rested against the button, turning it down to the minimum. It pays to look at the obvious first! I don't know where the sensor is for controlling the temperature in the rear of the car, but could this be faulty? I'm not very technically minded, but maybe someone on here'll know where it is.

Long shot... my old Superb Sportline estate
After my MkII was written off in an accident, I went to a recovery site in Bristol where it'd been taken and was waiting to be auctioned. I wanted to recover everything I'd left in the car and to hand over the spare keys and documents. I checked and double checked I'd taken everything, but when I got home I remembered I'd left my SD card with all my music on in the car! Last year I had a letter from the new owner after the car had been repaired asking if I had the spare key for the car as he only had one, but I told him both had been left with the car and I couldn't help him, but I forgot to ask if he had my SD card.

It could be one of the flaps is sticking and not letting any hot air through to the rear. Have you tried resetting the flaps? I'm not sure how this is done as I've never needed it on this car, but it'll be here somewhere if you run a search.

Superb III design flaws
Mine's been the same - the only design fault I've had but it's annoying. I'm worried that each time they come loose and are pushed back in place, they become looser and easier to pop off again. Mine are alright during the winter but can come loose when parked in direct sun and the trims expand in the heat. It happened for the first time this year last week when we had a sunny day and I was parked outside B & M. When I opened the door and heard a "ping", I knew exactly what'd happened! I pushed them back firmly and tried to seat them as far apart as possible to maximise the gap, but with very little success as they are of fixed length. I've also put a light smear of grease over each end of the trim to see if this stops them sticking to each other and pulling them off. I'll have to see if this works!

"gearbox error ok to drive"
Before I retired, I worked as an accountant and I prepared accounts for a few independent garages selling cars who'd buy ex-Motability cars from auction. They'd be keen to buy these if they could get them at a good price as they knew they were serviced and maintained to high standards.

"gearbox error ok to drive"
It all looks a bit fishy to me as I can't imagine anyone at Motability looking up the service details for the car and booking it in for a gearbox oil change at a back street garage when it wasn't even due until the car had covered 40,000 miles, unless someone working there gets a backhander from the garage if they receive work from them?

"gearbox error ok to drive"
I had the rear discs changed at 3 years old. Mine's a 2016 and I've only done 27k to date. I think the original discs are made of cardboard! I'm surprised if Motability sent the car to a back street garage for the gearbox oil change. On their website, they state that servicing and MOTs will be carried out by the appropriate dealer as I assume it's all part of the package included in the price when they buy their cars from the manufacturers. My brother-in-law had a Motability car for a number of years until he sadly passed away last year and they always went back to dealers for any servicicing or repairs.

Heated seats automatically on
I got a member in South Wales with vcds to change it (together with a number of other changes) in return for some beer money. I'm not confident about making the changes myself.

Problems using Skoda Portal for Map Update
Did you untick the quick format box? I always run a full format and haven't had any problems updating regarding space on the card.

"gearbox error ok to drive"
But does paddywack1878 mean the garage that supplied the car sent it to out to have the gearbox oil changed rather than Motability? I don't know if the car was manual or DSG, but if it was DSG it wasn't due to be changed as it had only covered 36k miles and the oil doesn't need changing until 40k.

Heated seats automatically on
When I bought my car, the driver's seat defaulted to switching on the seat heating to the setting you had when you turned off the engine if you restarted the car for up to 15 minutes but the passenger seat reset itself to off every time the engine was switched off. I had the passenger seat altered by vcds to the same setting as the driver's seat. I believe you can chose various time delays to turn the heated seats back on, but does anyone know what's the maximum time you can change this setting to and can you change it to remember the setting with no time limit?

"gearbox error ok to drive"
If your car had been for sale for some time before you bought it and it drained the battery, this can bring up some error codes. Once these are cleared and you've driven the car, they should all be clear. Have you had any news on your car yet?
