  1. I did too in May this year. I was in Ibis Styles underground car park in Bialystok, Poland and pressed the button to open the hatch before I got out and it hit a low hanging pipe. I moved to another spot where there was plenty of room for the hatch to open after that and will check for headroom if I ever return there. I was fortunate and it doesn't seem to have done any damage as the pipe had insulation around it that softened the impact.
  2. Mine's coming up for 7 years old and still has the original battery. It's usually only used a couple of times a week, but stop/start is working by the time I reach the end of the street when the engine's still cold at this time of the year, Of course, in winter it takes longer, but usually operates once the engine's warm.
  3. I'm the same as Numskull with a 2016 on 40k miles.
  4. The mpg I achieved was with the car fully laden with a full boot, back seats folded down and the rear floor packed as well. However, I never pushed the car very hard, cruising at 70-75 mph, even on the unrestricted sections of German autobahn or on the Polish motorways where the limit is 140 kph (87 mph). It did show over 60 mpg at times on slower sections of road, such as the Netherlands, where the limit is only 100 kph (62 mph) in the daytime. Where it suffered was in a few long holdups where were moving forward very slowly for some time and also going around the cities of Vilnius and Klaipeda every day during the 2 weeks we spent staying there.
  5. Not quite what the topic heading says as this was what I did with my Superb over three weeks rather than today. We went on a trip to Lithuania and were away for three weeks, spending 3 nights in Vilnius and then 11 nights in Klaipėda, the other nights being spent on the outward and and return journeys. We went via France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and Poland, but missed Poland on the return journey. As SWMBO doesn't drive and I'm 71, we don't go too far each day but find somewhere nice where we can visit the town, have a good meal and be relaxed and ready to start again the next day. The car behaved faultlessly and didn't miss a beat. It's looking rather travel stained at the moment as although we didn't have a drop of rain, it frequently got covered in dust that became very unsightly with any damp in the air overnight. We were in the car for 6 or 7 hours some days and we didn't feel uncomfortable at the end of each journey. Having DSG, ACC and traffic jam assist are essential for me on a journey like this and I would be thinking twice about undertaking such a trip without them. Being retired and without children, we went before the schools broke up and took mid-week ferries between Dover and Calais when they were not too busy and avoided any long queues. On the return journey, we missed Poland by taking the ferry from Klaipėda to Kiel and saved an overnight stop on the way home. The cost of the ferry was about the same as driving, but we didn't like it and won't go this way again. The car had to be driven down to deck 2 in the bowels of the ship and we then had to walk up steep, narrow metal steps to deck 6 for our cabin with overnight bags. The stairs were long as the decks above us were for lorries, so they were quite tall. The cabin was very small and the air vent seemed to blow only warm air. On return to the car in Kiel, we had to reverse, make a three point turn then a 180 degrees up the ramp as deck 2 was a dead end. Despite this criticism, the food was reasonable and we both slept well. Taking the ferry to Kiel meant that we didn't drive through Lithuania or Poland going home, which was a shame as this is my favourite section of the journey. The traffic through these two countries is usually light and costs are lower than in western Europe for fuel, hotels, etc. The ferry has the advantage though in that it heads west as soon as it leaves Klaipėda, but when you're driving you have to travel due east, then south before you head west to get around the Russian territory of Kaliningrad, so after about 7 hours of driving you arrive in Warsaw, which is virtually the same distance from home as the crow flies as Klaipėda! We're back home now with lawns waiting to be cut, a car needing cleaning and lots of laundry for SWMBO!
  6. On our recent trip abroad, FM radio sometimes stopped and the volume control did nothing. I usually listen to DAB and when we were back in the UK, DAB worked fine, but I was in Lithuania for 2 weeks and there was no DAB to listen to there. If DAB works, I'm not to worried about FM, but I must try FM in the UK to see if it behaves the same as when we were abroad. SWMBO looks after the radio when we're on the move and selected FM as soon as we were in France to listen to Nostalgie, so I'm not sure what DAB stations are available in other countries we passed through, such as Germany and Poland.
  7. Sorry, no idea at all. I'm not very technical at all these days as I'm getting old and creaking at the joints, but it was just an idea of why yours is creaking.
  8. Mine's a similar age to yours, but I don't have problems with creaks, groans and squeaks. Maybe someone's removed the centre console in the past for whatever reason and they haven't put it back correctly?
  9. Mine suddenly stopped working nearly 2 years ago and it was a broken bracket that holds the radar on the front grill. The dealer ran a diagnostic test to find the problem, replaced the bracket and calibrated the camera and it's been fine since then. I don't know how the bracket broke as the warning started to be displayed when I was driving along at a steady speed and I didn't hit a pothole or speed bump. There was no damage at the front of the car to suggest someone had nudged it whilst it was parked.
  10. When I had a fault with front assist not working, the dealer said they'd need to run a diagnostic test to find the problem, but they reduced the charge by 50% when I collected the car as they said they found the fault without running the full test.
  11. Mine's a FWD so it'll be slightly better consumption and I'm currently showing 56 mpg after a 1,600 mile journey, but pottering around my hometown of Brecon in winter when the engine doesn't get warm it'll be about 20 mpg, so as ApertureS says more information is needed.
  12. I'm in a similar position as I've retired sine buying my diesel. During the winter, especially if we have a spell of bad weather and I don't go far, I have to drive up and down the Brecon Bypass to clear the DPF. It's OK at the moment as I'm in Lithuania and the long drive doesn't give any active regeneration problems. When I started out from home, the car was showing AdBlue range was 5,500 miles and after covering over 1,600 miles, the range has only dropped to 5,000 miles, so I assume the DPF runs cleaner when the car is covering long distances at full temperature.
  13. I'm not sure if AutoGlass operate in Romania. I regularly use the A40 from Brecon to Abergavenny and there used to be many pheasants on the road around Glanusk Estate and I've hit two in the past in my last Superb; one glanced off the windscreen without damage and the other stepped out of a hedge in front of me and I saw it in my mirrors coming out underneath the car. The latter one left a small crack on the plastic grill low down but it was hardly noticeable, so I was lucky on both occasions (well, luckier than the pheasants!). The pheasants on the Glanusk Estate seemed to have disappeared in the last couple of years, but I don't know why or what has happened to them.
  14. I have to be careful not to be too complacent when I visit other places. We had an article in our local newspaper recently with a picture of a damaged flower pot and the police were asking if anyone had any information on the identity of the perpetrators. That seems to be about the most serious crime here for some while! I'm off to Lithuania for 3 weeks soon and will be renting an apartment in Klaipėda where the car will be parked on the street or in a parking bay nearby, so I'll need to more wary of keeping the car as safe as possible.
  15. Doesn't that give you the protection you need though? If someone's trying to scan your key's signal, it'll be in the house and not closer than a couple of yards away. I've kept my keys in a Faraday pouch since I bought the car in 2017 and the pouch is kept in the opposite side of the house to the driveway. I've not had any problems, though you could leave it unlocked with the keys in it around here and nothing would happen. The only time I really need the bag is whenever we're away from home where the risk of theft is higher.
  16. I lost front assist a couple of years ago whilst I was driving on the A470 past Merthyr Tydfil. I tried resetting it but it didn't help, so I took it to Sinclairs in Swansea and they diagnosed that the bracket holding the unit on the grill was broken. There was no sign of any damage to the front of the car, so I've no idea how it broke. It's been fine after their repair. I've still got the original battery that came with the car in 2016. I've not had any problems and I noticed yesterday when I went out in it that stop/start was functioning after I'd been driving for about 3 minutes whilst the engine was still quite cold, so there must be some life left in it. It can be a little sluggish in the middle of winter standing outside if it isn't used for a few days, but this is to be expected.
  17. The 230v inverter cannot be fitted to the UK cars as the outlet does not comply with our 3 pin socket specifications. I assume it isn't worth Skoda's time and expense to fit an outlet that complies with UK regulations. I've never seen anyone mention that they've retro fitted one to a UK car.
  18. I can understand some items being dropped as they're never used nowadays, such as cassette and CD players. I've got the magnetic boot light lamp, which I took out and tried when I bought the car but haven't used since because if you need a light, your hand goes into your pocket and you use your torch on your phone.
  19. I'm the opposite and much prefer ACC and would not want to go back to CC! I was without ACC for a while in 2021 that turned out to be a broken bracket that holds the unit in the middle of the grill. I missed not being able to set the ACC and just steer the car.
  20. I've always been able to lock or unlock the door by tapping it with the back of my hand and I've never needed to grip the handle. Even when I'm wearing gloves, it usually works using this method.
  21. My lights have always changed automatically. However I too have to change the time manually and set it to +1GMY for CET and +2GMT if travelling a bit further for EET. It's easier to do this than reset the clock each time.
  22. Can these items be sourced from Georgia? Georgia is still trading with Russia and I believe the Baltic States are buying Russian goods via Georgia. My brother in law from Klaipėda said he will be visiting Liepāja on Wednesday (a public holiday in Lithuania),as the local shops have run out of has favourite Russian vodka, but he says it's still available in Latvia where it's been sourced through Georgia.
  23. The owner says his car is a Greenline model. If I remember correctly, these came with lowered suspension to improve fuel consumption, but I don't know how much lower they were from the standard set up.
  24. As mine's a L&K, I have DCC, but I prefer to run mine on normal except if I'm on the motorway or a long section of dual carriageway, such as the A40 from Abergavenny to Ross-on-Wye, when I'll run it in comfort mode. Being in my 70s, I'm not usually in a rush to get anywhere and these settings suit me fine. I've tried sport once or twice, but it's too firm for me and SWMBO's rotund and sensitive backside!
  25. I take my car to the Škoda dealer where I bought the car for servicing, etc, which is Sinclairs of Swansea. It's 40 miles and just over an hour away, but usually a bit more with the traffic. We're in a different situation though as we're both retired and we make it a day out when the car needs any work. We book well in advance to ensure we have a courtesy car and then usually go off to Porthcawl for a walk along the beach or promenade, then on to the McArthur Glen outlet at Bridgend where there's plenty of places to eat as well as doing some shopping. We don't have anyone or anything to care for at home (apart from a cat who lives outside anyway), so we can be away all day if we want.
