  1. I don't have a rear wiper on my hatchback, but I had a similar problem on a Peugeot 205 about 35 years ago. The wiper shaft where it comes though the hatch had seized after a few years of dirt and water ingress. Cleaning it up and lightly greasing it cleared the problem.
  2. 2 years ago just after I'd updated the maps, I was driving from Poland to Lithuania through the Suwalki Gap and it was trying to send me along the new dual carriageway from Suwalki to the border that hadn't been opened at that time, so on that occasion the maps were ahead of themselves!
  3. I've updated the maps regularly and I'm currently running the latest available, which is the 2024 version. I've never had a problem and have always carefully followed the correct procedure to avoid any pitfalls. The only thing I've noticed is that the latest maps still show the default speed limit in Wales as 30 mph which was reduced to 20 mph in September last year, though this shouldn't be a problem in Grantham!
  4. I take the car to Lithuania every year (except lockdown) and I've never heard a traffic report on the radio when I have the box ticked to activate them.
  5. I had the same problem in 2021 and it's a mystery as to how it happened as the problem was that the bracket on the front radar cover was broken (as suggested by ApertureS). I didn't hit anything and the message appeared as I was driving north up the A470 around Merthyr Tydfil after leaving the Cyfarthfa Retail Park. There were no other vehicles nearby and there was no sound of hitting anything in the road. In the retail car park, there's a section I always chose where the spaces are a bit wider and away from the area where most other shoppers park. It's a single row and I park in forwards to make loading the boot easier. The front is facing a small grass verge and then a hedge and there was nothing near the front of the car to damage it. If it was damaged prior to this, could it have worked for a while until the unit moved sufficiently to stop working? There's no sign of any damage on the front. It's possible it could have been kicked on the front by some yob in Cyfarthfa with nothing better to do as it was keyed on the rear nearside door in that car park about 7 years ago. I took the car to Sinclair Skoda in Swansea and they replaced the bracket and calibrated the front assist so it's all back as it should be. They charged £60.00 for the initial diagnostic and £36.00 for replacing the bracket and the calibration, so it cost me a lot less than I thought it would. They charged for only half the diagnostic fee as they found the problem without running the full test.
  6. If only there was an ApertureS in every major town across the country............ Is there anyone out there who offers a cloning service?
  7. I had a MkII L&K diesel from new in 2012 until it was written off in an accident in 2017. I can't remember the milage but I think it was about 50,000. I went all over Europe to places such as Lithuania, Belarus, Hungary, Croatia etc with no problems, apart from the heater. It happened two or three times when SWMBO's side blew maximum heat for no reason at all. When this happened, I turned it off for a few minutes and it seemed to reset itself. I now have a MkIII L&K diesel registered in 2016 that I bought at 8 months old after the MkII was written off. This one has covered 43,000 miles and has also been on long European trips (except for lockdown). The only problems I've had were a broken bracket for the radar in the grill and a puncture in Lithuania when I ran over a lump of metal, though you can't blame the car for the latter problem. Like coppertop, both cars were regularly serviced and maintained, which I'm sure helps to keep them running as the should.
  8. I thought the price was higher than I expected, but It includes four wheel drive under standard equipment, so I assume a petrol two wheel drive will be a bit lower when it becomes available.
  9. I've always assumed that you have to hold the button down when the ignition is on for safety. If you touched a button when you're driving, the seat could suddenly move to a position where you can't properly control the car.
  10. Or stretch it like this Skoda Estelle. https://auto****e.com/topic/41057-6-door-skoda-estelle-limo-and-other-elongated-****e/
  11. Mine went nearly 2 years ago. It turned out to be a broken bracket for the front ACC radar, although I couldn't see any damage or marks on it, so it's a bit of a mystery as to how it was broken. It was repaired by Sinclair Skoda, Swansea, so it's the wrong end of Wales for you!
  12. If you click on this link, you can see your manual online. https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models
  13. I use Redex AdBlu, which is about £15-£20 for 10 litres bought locally and I've never had any problems with it. If the AdBlu is ISO 22241 which the Redex is, I assume it should be OK? I've not seen Hico for sale in the UK, but looking online it says it's ISO 22241 compliant. Edited as text was different sizes.
  14. I was there in November last year and hired a Cupra Leon for the duration of our stay. That had a heated steering wheel but it was far too warm to try it out!
  15. I don't do very much car maintenance now, but I did when I was younger and I bought two flexible metal rods with handles on the top. At the other end, one had a magnet and the other had a grab similar to those you see in amusement arcades that you open and close from the handle. I've had them for about 50+ years and have helped in situations like this, though back then there was much more room around engines. I can't remember what car it was, but there was one where, being tall, I could put one leg on the ground through the engine compartment to make it easier to work on some areas!
  16. From the spelling of the name and the road numbers, my money is on Finland. I was there in the winter of 1998/99 and it can be very cold. I'll not go there again in the winter as I ended up with pneumonia and spent Christmas to New Year in hospital on a drip!
  17. I've just downloaded from the Skoda Update Portal and it worked fine and I now have the 2024 maps. I thought it may show the default speed limit in Wales as 20 mph, but it still shows 30 mph as for the rest of the UK.
  18. I was in my car waiting for an hour for SWMBO today and tried mine. I imagine there's some sort of mechanism at the back of the lid that operates the closing of the lid that's not operating properly on yours and will need to be replaced? You can access online manuals that I think you have to pay for (I've never used them) and these may give an answer or show you how to remove it. Have you checked underneath the lid when it's open to see there's nothing trapped up there that's stopping it closing?
  19. Has someone changed the units from UK gallons to US gallons? The UK gallon is 160 fluid ounces, compared to 133.23 for the US gallon, which would give about a 17% fall in mpg.
  20. Has the mpg dropped due to a change in the weather? A colder spell would, of course, give longer warming up times. Or maybe it's the winter diesel fuel? Are you using the same fuel from the same garage?
  21. I've recently returned from a 9 night stay in Tenerife and we hired a Cupra Leon ST auto hybrid for the duration of our stay. It was good, but I prefer the Superb, though to be fair the Superb is more expensive. However, if I was 22 years old rather than 72, I'd probably prefer the Cupra!
  22. I've topped my coolant up with a small amount a couple of times in the 6½ years I've owned the car. I keep a small bottle mixed in the correct ratio in the boot in case I ever need some when I'm away from home. Enjoy your holiday in the Canaries. I'm in Tenerife and you've arrived just when the weather has turned a bit cooler and there's not much sun - it's only 22 degrees!
  23. From what langers2k says above, mine must be working by the default fusion option. In Wales, it's currently reverting to 30 mph when I'm away from the 20 mph signs, but I guess it'll be corrected when the maps are updated. I'm currently in Tenerife and we've hired a Cupra Leon ST for the duration of our stay. It's got a large navigation screen that looks similar to the one that'll be in the latest Superb and the TSR shows various signs that mine doesn't, such as slippery road, bends, crossroads, etc, so maybe the new Superb will show these as well?
  24. I had my traffic sign recognition unlocked by a fellow member with VCDS and it only ever shows the speed limit from the sign via the camera and not from the navigation. I assume the advantage is that the limit should be correct as any recent changes or temporary limits will be shown. However, as you point out, if it picks up the wrong sign then the wrong speed is displayed. As far as I'm aware, the only other sign it displays is the rarely used (in the UK) no overtaking sign. I was quite impressed with this when travelling through other European countries, such as Germany, in that it ignores no overtaking signs when they have a plate underneath showing it only applies to lorries or cars towing a trailer or caravan. What other signs did you see it showing or was this on a later model? When travelling abroad it also shows dual limits, such as French motorways which are 130 kph in the dry and 110 kph in the rain.
  25. I often get Somerset announcements in South Wales!
