Please help me fall in love with my car...
Can’t see exactly how old your car is but it looks like a pre facelift Mk3 (same as my own). I came from a Mk5 GTI that I truely loved, but had to upgrade as our first baby is on its way and I don’t regret it. Yes it’s not quite as nimble, it’s not quite as quick (the GTI had a stage 1 tune), there is an annoying buzz from behind my right ear on the door pillar and I miss Apple car play. But it’s much more comfortable, it’s still plenty quick and it’s huge! I’m not Into modding my car as such but I have swapped out some of the bulbs for LEDs I got ODBELEVEN and changed some of the functions so it feels more like ‘mine’ now. My Skoda dealer wasn’t great either but I have a great VW specialist mechanic that takes care of it (as they did my GTI) I just don’t think dealers are worth the effort usually. take it on a long drive, fill it full of gear and you’ll appreciate more the fact it can hold lots, haul lots in comfort (especially with that roof box!) and still put a smile on your face too when you want it to. That’s what separates it from your A3, especially for the price!

Another GPS update issue
I'm going to see if i can update to an older version of the ROW maps, it seems like all the older map updates are still on the Skoda server so if i can get teh file name i will download one and see if it works. my Maps are 2015 so even if i can get to 2019 that would be a big help... I wouldn't mind upgrading to a MIB2.5 but they're not cheap and i think tehy need to get some coding done too and i don't know of anyone in Sydney that might be able to do it.

Another GPS update issue
So i got my SD card today and copied the data over to it and gave it a go today, I had the same issue as yourself, i did note that after i'd tried to update the software it wrote a new file to the folder. I also tried moving some of the files around so it was just the content of the MIB1 folder and that didn't work either. :(

Rear mud guards
I have the older Mk3 Octavia RS Wagon (2015) and my dealer also told me there weren't mud flaps for it, i ended up buying them from Skoda parts and fitting them myself, took about 20 min to do front and rears and I have zero skills. It's the same part number as normal Octavia, there is nothing at all fancy to do to get them to fit. on the rears there are 3 screws (one is a bit of a pain), the front has 2 screws and you can drill a wee hole in the plastic guard to add a plastic 'stopper'. Honestly, it's dead easy!

Another GPS update issue
In your first Pic you had the Device Number on screen which says it is indeed a Columbus MIB1, i had read (although again, not tried it myself) that you need to copy the 2 folders MIB1 and MIB2 plus the meta file on the SD Card and it does it's thing. I did read in one of the other posts on here (search for "MIB1 maps" in the Octavia 3 forum) that there was a comment that said if you were past firmware version 411 then you can't update, but not sure if that was confirmed or not though... :(

Another GPS update issue
I came here to resolve this same issue, I too have a 2015 Columbus MIB1 unit, and i too have the same map version as you! I haven't yet tried the update on the SD card (had to order a SD card reader as mines is broken). I have been doing some reading and there could be a 'gottcha' that we run into. I don't fully understand the whole thing yet but it seems that there may be a limit as to how far we can update our maps, seems there was something called 'Mapcare' which Skoda used and allowed you get free maps X number of years into the future and once you passed that point you were stuffed. They have since abandoned that service and i'm not sure if we can update now, i asked my dealer about map updates but they never respond to email and i haven't been called back twice now by the,. Things i have read is that you need to put all the files in the SD cards root, and leave all the files as 'as is' but beyond that, i'm not sure.. I've downloaded the 2020 maps and am going to try that update this weekend too to see how i get on... will keep you posted

Skoda Octavia 3 Owners register
Welcome fellow Strayan!... The Wagon looks great in that colour! Mines is White but i'd have preffered either your colour or the nice flat grey (not sure it's proper name), but there were none in my price range and with the spec i wanted. Hope you get your seat sorted out!

Best tyres for VRS
I had some random budget tyres on my '15 RS Wagon, they were shocking in the wet, so i put Goodyear Asymetric 5's all round and it's so much better. Like... a million times better! On my last car I had Potenza S003 and they were pretty good too.

Trim rattle help
Ha! I just figured out yesterday that this is what was causing my rattle (almost like a buzz at times). I moved the thing to it’s highest point and it does seem to have stopped it but I’ll keep my eye (ear) on it. Been driving me nuts since I got the car!!

Estate boot struts - are yours weak?
I noticed my boot (wagon) slams shut really easily too, it’s ok towards the top but it does ‘drop’ quickly as it gets towards the lower half.. mines if 2015 model.

Skoda Octavia 3 Owners register
The previous owner had put “Vikings” on the front and “Falkens” on the rear and the tyres were about 1/2 to 3/4 gone. it wasn’t pleasant, the front was very light and floated in corners. I know the roads can be a bit greasey as it’s the first proper rain we’ve had for a while but my Golf didn’t feel like that at all.

This is my favourite colour! There was a wagon for sale in this colour when I was looking but it didn’t have the tech pack I was looking for! Good purchase!!

Skoda Octavia 3 Owners register
Cheers! I just drove it for the first time in the wet yesterday and it wasn’t fun at all, it felt like when I used to have to drive on snow! So I’ve just ordered Goodyear Eagle F1’s all round, so we’ll see how they go before I decide on that tune...

Skoda Octavia 3 Owners register
Hi from Sydney... This is my MY15.5 Octavia RS 162 Wagon, DSG, Tech pack. Only thing I'm likely to do to it is upgrade the interior lights as i bought it as I have a baby on the way and my MK5 GTI was a manual which my wife couldn't drive (I just sold it today, so sad to say goodbye to it!). I did think about a stage 1 tune but that's a lot of power going through the front wheels. Will want new tyres on it too before the baby arrives as they're average wear but Vikings on the front and Falkens on the rear... so will replace them with something safer and better handling.... Maybe LED fog's too! Only thing I'm missing is my Apple Carplay as I'd fitted a OEM VW unit to the GTI and it was easier to use than the Columbus system in this.

Boot lighting
I bought these from Supernova Lighting, super bright and fairly cheap.... but shipping them to the UK may prove to be expensive i guess.

Kopacek LED interior light upgrades - how to fit??
I realise it's not probably very helpful for you but i just installed some LED lights (bulbs) from SuperNovaLighting (in Oz) good quality and made a world of difference, especially in my boot (i have a wagon).. why they don't come with LED's i don't know! I'd looked at the superskoda option you went with but couldn't figure out how they fitted.. sorry it was as complicated as it seemed.. Did you get something sorted out in the end though?

Dsg 2nd to 1st when stopping - slight shudder
It had it's DSG Service at 57k km, it's 93k km now. it's only very slight as you come to a stop, kind of like you didn't dip the clutch quickly enough if it were a manual car...

Dsg 2nd to 1st when stopping - slight shudder
Hi, Sorry to resurrect this, but i have the same thing on my 2015 Octavia rs that i just picked up, curious to see how you guys have gotten on with this since? I get a very slight shudder just before i come to a stop and am not sure if I need to take it back to the dealer (it's still under it's warranty) or if it's just a DSG Trait.

Hello from 'Down Under'
Hi and Thanks! I picked up my car this week, really liking it, first time I've owned an Automatic before so it'll take a bit of getting used to, i keep grabbing the gear leaver to change gear. I think i'll need to replace the interior lights through as I swapped out the interior lights for LED ones and it made a world of difference, especially in the boot. Otherwise, very happy with it!!

Late 2014 Mk3 vRS Combi Daily Driver
Really nice, i just bought a very similar car in the last 2 weeks too, mines is a petrol version of the White VRS though, but as we're in lock down i've not been able to collect it (which is frustrating to say the least!). How did you find swapping out the bulbs? I was reading that the indicator bulbs are a nightmare to swap out, were these ones ok? cheers Blair

Hello from 'Down Under'
Hi all from Sydney Australia. I recently bought a MY15.5 Octavia RS 162 (they don't mention the 'V' here...) estate (Combi/Wagon... i'm Scottish so it's an 'estate'). I bought it the day before we went into a mandatory lock down in my part of the city and the dealership where the car is in another part so I can't collect it for now :( . I've owned a Mk5 GTI for the last 6 years which I'm now trying to sell (...damn lock-down not helping that either!!) but it was a manual and my wife is expecting our first so I decided to upgrade to something a bit bigger, safer and with an Auto box for her. Really looking forward to getting my new car.. take care all! Blair
