  1. Keeping a close eye on this an my vRS doesnt seem to have these functions either.
  2. Totally agree, as an engineer myself it is very easy to fall into technobabble, the instructor part of me tries to avoid this in the name of clarity, understanding and education. is there a sticky anywhere on the forum that has these very basic tips explained simply?
  3. I don't mind a touch of humour to lighten up a thread Agreed and is one of the reasons i made the post , and i have been very pleasantly surprised by the genuine responses i have had, there have been a few forums in the past which can get very arsey if you ask a simple question . I do appreciate the responses, sometimes its better to get a straight answer quickly, indeed i believe you just posted about finding the software versions on another thread, very very useful!
  4. Thank you, this is starting to make more sense to me now. Reading the current posts with no previous knowledge is a bit like walking into an Italian Opera, being performed in Japanese by actors who speak neither language
  5. Thanks i have had a good read through that already, i more more trying to get a handle on some of the terminology and processes that are being used. Learning to speak the language to to speak
  6. OK so being relatively new to VAG products I am trying into understanding them. My previous tinkering and tuning experience is with old Rovers, which technologically are light years away from my vRS I've been kicking around the forum for a couple of weeks now and i have some questions. I know i could 'use the search function' but as the site has so much wonderful information its a bit like finding a needle in a haystack. So here goes... What is VCDS? How do i do an autoscan? (I have MIB2 headunit) What would i need to purchase for me to be able to enable some features? What are the common useful and easy adaptations i can make to my Octavia III? (I have already started with the reversing camera) Agian apologies if these have been asked before, but i thought i may be useful to collate some information that isn't full of three letter abbreviations and acronyms that the unenlightened such as myself would understand . After all the key to gaining knowledge is to understand it
  7. I got thule roof bars for my estate with the roof rails, but they do a set for the hatch. Its then just a case of getting the bike racks to go on them. This guide is from 2017, but im sure its the same.
  8. Its a little minter, hardly used and been looked after, everything works, no rot or damp. at under £1500 with 2 awnings , water pumps, water and waste carriers it was a bargain
  9. It does also tend to happen more often with 'performance' brake parts as they go to higher temperatures
  10. Purchased last year during Covid so that we could have some way of getting away from the teenagers for a weekend
  11. Truth be told i dont really know (being new to caravanning) but the plaque on the side has an MAW of 1100KG I had a very old freelander that had no issues towing it.
  12. Its an older van (1996) and i would say a good 3 foot shorter than yours
  13. My Manky van is a bit less posh than that
  14. Thanks :), Its for my daughter to learn to drive in, its better to learn in a manual before you get too fat & lazy and have automatics . Oh and that drivers mat is definitely getting replaced . Besides here in the UK if you learn in a manual, yu can drive both, if you learn in an auto you are not allowed to drive manuals.
  15. It is generally a new discs job unfortunately, if the discs are reasonable new (which they are) you may be able to look into getting them skimmed if the warp isnt too bad but it will reduce the lifespan of the disc. As they are about 6 months old its worth a call to brembo, they may contribute as its not within the usual life of the discs. What is the worst they can say... No! But equally getting them skimmed may be cost prohibitive.
  16. A common brake problem with automatics is creating hot spots on discs when coming to a halt especially after heavy braking, then holding the car on the foot brake in the same position on the disc. The hot pads warp the disc in a specific spot. I have seen this happen a lot on different manufacturers, very common on high performance cars as they tend to be driven in a more more enthusiastic manner . I tend to come to a halt then let the car roll a foot or so before stopping again. Apologies, i didnt read all your post, i see you already do this
  17. Hmmm im out of ideas then, sorry i couldnt be more help.
  18. Well along with my vRS, i have just bought this little badger for my daughter as a first car. 8000 miles and a little minter!
  19. It worked for me at the time on my superb, its certainly worth a try :). My local dealer tried to investigate, but just sent a video of it to Skoda, who said they would fix it in a future software update.... which never happened.
  20. I did it whilst i was driving on the M1
