  1. Personally (and i appreciate others may view this differently) i would never entertain a rebuilt or replacement engine in any car, i would rather (and have) scrap a car that has had an engine failure. To my mind If the cambelt has gone it is an indicator that the car was poorly maintained and managed. In that case what other components have been neglected or abused by the previous owner. Too much risk for me.
  2. When i had my multimedia system updated by the dealership my Sinosmart camera stopped working. I had to unplug it and reconnect before it would work again.
  3. Glass replacement does not affect you NCD whether you have protection or not. It doesn't even go on the history of making a claim.
  4. Still cheaper than here <grumble grumble thieving barstewards grumble> My local supermarket fuel is £1.34 per litre for standard E10
  5. Its the 245 with DSG. I do tend to drive reasonably sedately, unless i get a rush of blood to my right foot
  6. True, i had not taken that into account, however i have seen the same degree of MPG loss over the rest of the tankful whilst using it up :). Its slightly annoying, but 42mpg on a 2L turbo petrol still isnt bad
  7. All i can contribute to this is my experience last week. Had to travel to East london last week, filled up with E5 before going - 47.8 MPG, Filled up with E10 on the return journey - 42.3 MPG. Same route, with cruise control set at 70 on dual carriageways and motorways.
  8. This is very simple, These are GENUINE refugees, fleeing for their life from the Taliban, People whom we have directly put in the Taliban gun sights due to lack of moral courage and planning by our dear leaders. They are not travelling through multiple European countries to paddle across the channel in a dinghy! They are pleading with us directly to help! These are people whom we have given the promise of freedom of choice to, and whom we have seen develop in 20 years and who have been trying to put themselves on the world stage as something other than a backward nation of tribal thugs. I have seen this first hand and have been hosted in the houses and eaten the food of these people whilst wearing the uniform of my country. We have an obligation to those whom Biden and Co have put in harms way. We MUST find a way to help! Leaving them to the wolves would be cowardly and not right.
  9. I did have to unplug my Sinosmart reversing camera and plug it back in to get it working again, the plug n play files needed reinstalling.
  10. I know you said that this happened whilst using a pressure washer, but that still shouldn't happen. I would still be looking for the cause of the ingress.
  11. I have 0480 on mine now that the dealership updated it, anything you would like me to check up?
  12. Although I do agree that firearms should be restricted and licenced, and i totally agree that anyone with mental issues should not have access to them, the problem is in policing it, there is not a firearms agency for guns, like the DVLA is for cars. It is down to an overstretched police to manage it. This is something that should be changed. Gun controls only work for the law abiding, criminal elements will always get access to firearms of all types, and don't give a crap about it being legal.
  13. If you have a decent internet supply, an Amazon firestick is relatively cheap, and you can stream all the channels and more from it. Just have to download the iplayer,C4,C5 and ITV hub apps and off you go. Its not as intuitive as the pure TV, but you will get all the main channels plus netflix etc, and you don't need amazon prime subscription to run it.
  14. Without getting too deeply into the politics, and the right and wrong. There is currently a HUGE issue with veterans of Afghanistan seeing what is happening since the withdrawal. Many including myself have have lost friends and colleagues in that country and had to do things that are against the natural grain of human nature whilst trying to fulfil the requirements set by NATO. We see the country now sliding back into the theological ideological anarchy that was causing many global issues and will do so again. This will ultimately mean intervention again in the future. The sense of futility, of the lives lost and taken on all sides for no purpose, the sense of waste of time and life is very hard to understand or bear. I have ongoing issues since I left the military, with bouts of depression and flashbacks, not to the same degree as many who are suffering much worse than am, but its bad enough. There has already been an increase in suicide rates of modern conflict veterans, and this situation is making it worse. I am by no means advocating going back, but the withdrawal was a mistake, as was not finishing the job in a military sense. Using the military for peacekeeping has always failed, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan all show this to be true. Soldiers are not police! I have always believed, certainly in Iraq and Afghanistan, that once the initial military targets had been achieved, the job of policing the peace should have been the UN, not NATO. So that the countries military and civil departments from them all over the world could have been seen to be making the effort to de-escalate the region. If countries such as India, Pakistan Russia etc had been involved, it wouldn't have become the political football, and wouldn't have been seen as the 'Invading western infidels' wanting to occupy, which would have removed a lot of the rhetoric and propaganda that is used by the Taliban.
  15. In the mean time, try some saddle soap and then leather food (Neat's-foot oil) to clean it up, then a sparing amount of black boot polish to bring up the colour. (Making sure to brush off and buff up with a cloth, you don't want dirty hands). I have done this before on worn steering wheels, it will never make it 'like new' but it will dramatically improve the look and feel of the steering wheel.
  16. My old 2l TDi superb used to need about a litre every 10k miles. I was doing high mileage, mostly motorway.
  17. I have also driven with ACC in Europe, I did find that the first 5-10 mins of the journey i had to prompt the ACC to allow me to pass by touching the accelerator, but once the car got used to being on the RHS it was fine. (I know the car doesn't learn, it was probably slow in recognising the GPS, but it was the best narrative for describing what happened). And i totally agree about @B Stickers' Belgians are MENTAL!
  18. Having had the Saloon version, I can confirm the the boot is CAVERNOUS. If you do have the occasional tall item, taking the parcel shelf out gives plenty of space.
  19. If you look in the Octavia IV forum, someone is having a similar issue, but it is related to the SOS and multimedia systems.
  20. Try buttons for the window switches, mine buzz, rattle and make noises when I'm driving.
  21. OK so I had the software on my head unit upgraded by the dealership yesterday while it was in for its service. From To What extra features would this have that I can enable, and how do I enable them I see people mentioning Skoda Surround, how to i get that up and running now?
  22. I think the current high used car prices it is a combination of poor feedback around the new Mk4, but mainly due to the lack of new cars in the market due to semiconductor shortages. It isn't just the Octy III that has increased in value, many other makes and models have too. The downside is that although you are getting more for the car you are selling, the price of the car you are buying will have increased as well. As a sage old car sales manager once told me (many many moons ago), it isn't the price of the car on the forecourt, or the price of the part exchange that is important, it is the price to change that hits the pocket. Of course being in positive equity on a finance deal is always a pleasant thing
  23. Don't forget that a pizza is smaller if you cut it into 6, as most cant manage 8 slices.....
  24. Do you have MAGIC pedal, my old L&K had it and when I stood close to the boot, it had a mind of its own and would open or close while I was leaning into the boot space.
