  1. Always worth giving each corner of the car a good downward shove, if the shock has completely gone the corner will bounce up n down more than once. With the shock, it should just come back up and down once. Old school check, and wont indicate a partially worm shock, but it will indicate one that is shot.
  2. I Believe, and I'm happy to be corrected, that the coolant was changed to G13 at the same time, which gives the component protection. However, i would still change the coolant every 5 years anyway because I believe it to be good practice and would certainly do no harm!
  3. Black Bars for the win!
  4. Yes I have Thule bike carriers, even with those on they are very quiet.
  5. I have the wing Bars, they are excellent, I don't hear them at all.
  6. This guide is from 2018, but is the one I used when i bought mine, it describes which bars and feet are for which car. Thule_Guide_2018_EN.pdf (stilusosutazas.hu) FYI i had to get the 757 for my Octy 3 estate. It should just be a case of buying the correct foot pack for your car If your roof rails are raised up and have a space under them, then AFAIK the 757 kit will work for you, if they are flush rails with no gap, then the kit you have should work.
  7. There are different types of foot pack; Without rails Flush Rails Raised Rails My estate has raised rails, and I needed the appropriate foot pack. About £70-£80 and well worth the price.
  8. Horn not working is an MOT failure and means it is unroadworthy. Sounds like the airbag has deployed, they may have replaced the AB unit, but not connected the steering wheel wiring back up, or it was damaged.
  9. Sounds like the pipe has popped off the motor or split there. You may be able to see more if you can get the wheel arch liner out
  10. Does he also have plasters on his knuckles from where they drag on the path as he is walking!
  11. Get someone to check under the car to see if fluid is coming out, while you are operating the rear wash function.
  12. Id would remove the hat, it would act as a faraday cage and you could end up opening the fridge by mistake
  13. Having had both a Superb and an Octavia, I can say that the Superb doesn't feel significantly different in size when driving it
  14. An interesting trick, IF you are having low battery issues, hold the key fob against your head when you press the button. The skull cavity acts and an amplifier for the signal (With t being a parabolic chamber its has a positive gain) and you should be able to enter the car.
  15. The Thule Aerobars are well worth the expense, I have them for my estate.
  16. For the buzzing rattle, I have the same issue, and it is my window buttons in particular the window lock button that vibrates.
  17. @e-Roottoot I watch the development of the technologies with a lot of interest, as I certainly don't enjoy paying for the fuel I do, which is one of the reasons that I trialled the tesla, and I will certainly be making the change at some point in the future to a more sustainable method of propulsion. I need more confidence that EVs will do what I need them to do. To bring the thread back on track, I think Hydrogen or synthetic fuels will be a more realistic alternative.
  18. I have no issue with EVs, as such, it is just for me the range is not enough yet to generate enough confidence that I could use one for all my driving needs. Even a 10% decrease in an expected range of 300 miles would significantly impact on what I need to do. This is also taken from my own experience, I rented a Tesla when i was between cars and used it to go to the office (Basingstoke) at the start it had more than enough range (340 Miles IIRC) by the time i got to the office (230 Miles) , driving in a economical way the range was at under 40 miles. When we get to the point (and we will) that these vehicles have a 400-500 mile range, then I could be confident that one would fulfil my needs. When I have to drive to Basingstoke from North Lincolnshire one day, then go to Gateshead the next then home, neither I or the company I work for can justify the time taken to recharge during the journey. For me the technology is not quite there YET!
  19. The biggest issue I have with EVs is the longevity of the batteries. You may well get 300 miles per charge when new, but as the batteries gets older this decreases. This has been proven true for many EVs, I have yet to see any statistics from newer generation EVs that show that this has changed. As someone who does drive longish distances for work (250miles per time generally) I could justify a 300 mile range as I could recharge when I get to my destination, but if that range decreases after a year I would spend more time filling up, and I'm sorry but my time is more precious to me than that, especially as its not exactly a quick pit stop. A Hydrogen powered car may not be as efficient, but it would be consistent in its range and performance over time. All of these technologies will need to significantly improve to match what we have now before they become a realistic alternative for many.
  20. You only get that on models with ACC, if you just have CC, then its 1Mph increments only.
  21. I tend to find that if you use Cruise Control a lot (As I do) then eco mode is almost pointless, as it will hardly ever disengage into coasting. Probably has more effect on manual cars rather than DSG.
  22. I have the opposite experience, I find that the built in Nav is generally very good at identifying closed roads and snarl ups. However as one poster already said, I tend to use my own route, then use the system to get to the end bit which I may not know. The only issue I have had is when towing the caravan, the system identifies any A road as an A road, whether its a dual carriageway or a back road in the country, and will try to send me down a badly maintained road as its 0.1 of a mile shorter. But then I have had this problem with google and Waze too. As my old MT Sgt used to say, always do a route plan, a sat-nav is a useful tool, but it wont replace a brain!
