  1. My 68 plate has the Amunsen radio, i can pair 2 phones. On the phone display, there is a little switch icon next to the phone name on the touch screen, so you can toggle between the two. It was one of the requirements when i bought my car as i have a personal and work phone You can only answer one call at a time, but they will work collaboratively.
  2. I can pair 2 phones on my 68 plate
  3. As far as i know, the only way to wash the cam, is to squirt the rear window, which will automatically set the wiper going.
  4. Im glad i had the other kind
  5. From what i have read, it 'tops up' the coating in the alloy internals to stop them corroding, making a maintenance free cooling system (No such thing IMHO), but if you change the coolant every 5 years this shouldn't be an issue anyway.
  6. But that was in the "good" old days of 90s Rovers, Fords and Vauxhalls, where a new car could be delivered from the factory with some pre-wiped toilet roll tucked in the seat pocket. #Truestory
  7. A wise old sage once said to me... 'Never buy the newly released car, buy the last of the old model. All the gremlins have been dealt with!'
  8. After having read a few posts now on this Silica Bag issue, i have just been out to my 68 plate VRS and fished it out. It wasnt split but i would rather not run the risk. I had to bend over the front retaining peg, but then it came out with ease.
  9. Well on the day of her 17th birthday my daughter picked up her present. She is VERY happy and so am I. It drives like a dream, very impressed with it, quiet and comfy even it motorway speeds.
  10. At the risk of having repeated information, how difficult is it to update the firmware?
  11. I think i need to go speak to Skoda Grimsby lol
  12. Agreed, mine is the vRS, but i was wondering if the information would only be displayed when in sport mode
  13. So mine is displaying the same as the OPs car. Do you need to be in 'Sport' mode to get the performance monitor?
  14. I dont disagree with that statement and they were rightly fined for it however, i haven't spoken to ANYONE yet who would have been upset enough about a few MPG fibs to engage in legal proceedings on their own. These legal proceeding were brought about by rival manufacturers at first, then the 'get a few quid on us' lawyers jumped on the bandwagon. Hence we all now pay ALOT more for our cars and other services What goes around comes round, and we all pay for it in the end.
  15. And we wonder why the cost of living, insurance, banking, cars etc is so high. Because those being constantly sued are having to recoup the costs.
  16. I think its a bit of a balls up by the factory in rushing cars to production.
  17. I think its an issue with the new MkIV Octavia, but check your plate on the drivers B pillar make sure it doesnt say 0KG or is blank
  18. I could bore you to death on anti-counterfeiting technology for secure documents, currency, stamps, GS1 data code requirements and printing for governments systems lol I will get there eventually with my Skoda knowledge, but for now im trying to keep it as simple as my brain will let me
  19. Have a look through the threads on the 1.4/1.5 engines as there are varying information depending on what you want, performance or economy, from what i have read (i am far from being an expert) DSG seems to be the better option for these engines.
  20. No offence taken i have a pretty robust if dry sense of humour My only thought was to have a very simple 'Idiots Guide' to simple things such as displaying your software version on the display, What is an MIB1 or2 (with pictures) etc. You know some simple phrases that the forum regulars know and understand, whereas someone on the outside or like me who has issues with 'word salad' just looks at it with confusion
  21. I have limited experience of Skodas, but much wider in other marques.. 1] DSG or manual? There is a DSG for sale which has all of the spec features I would like [full leather, heated seats etc], but I have some question marks about the reliability of the gearbox, and this particular vehicle has 30,000 on the clock. I could compromise the spec features and get a manual with half the mileage. Am I right to be concerned about the gearbox? I personally would go for DSG which is easier to drive and manage, from what I have read on here seem to be relatively bulletproof and would be better for the kind of driving that you do (I have had 2 my current petrol vRS and a TDi 150bhp Superb). However you don't mention which engine? 30'000 on the clock is not a huge amount as long as it has been serviced correctly it shouldn't be a problem 2] How to purchase? Skoda approved used warranty seems conditional upon buying through PCP. If i were to do this and settle the finance within the 14 days, would i retain this warranty etc? You do get a longer warranty through PCP as they have to backup the car to a greater degree, believe if you pay it off it wont affect the warranty, but i would ring a Skoda dealer (probably not the one you intend to buy from) to get clarification. Where in the country are you? If you buy on PCP you may also get 2 years free servicing, as i have on my daughters Citygo. 3] Online purchase - I have been looking at getting a car home delivered literally to the other side of the country. Would I be able to do this and then have it serviced at the nearest approved garage? As the servicing is also included alongside the warranty. You can get the vehicle serviced at any Skoda dealer and that will fulfill the warranty requirements, however if there is an issue with the car that is down to the supplying dealer, you may be directed back to them for resolution. Once it is out of warranty i would find a good independent specialist to maintain it, Skoda servicing prices are not horrendous compared to some (I'm looking at you Mercedes) but an independent will generally be cheaper.
  22. @FlyingGecko Thanks again, for making me feel welcome. And as my 15 year old militant daughter would say 'for not assuming my gender' (its himself btw ) I don't think this problem is unique to this forum, indeed most successful forums have the same problem. And so far the responses to my rambling utterances have been superb (pun intended). As i mentioned in my first post, i used to be heavily involved in the Rovertech forum, which was for performance Rovers of all things, so i am reasonably adept at spannering things. Modern generations of cars have become more complex and software based, not always to a benefit as we read in the Octavia IV forums, and i am trying to get back up to speed on how things are done in the VAG world. As i have mild dyspraxia, i find trawling through lots of very dry technical posts difficult, so i tend to ask a straight question instead to generate a discussion where knowledge can be gained . It certainly didn't stop me getting two engineering degrees (Communications and mechanical) whilst i was in the Army. Once i get used to the VAG alphabet and language i'm sure i will work my way around it much better. For now thank you for your patience.
  23. I know on previous cars i have had (different manufacturers) this function is also linked to the 'one touch' window operation. If you reset those then the window closing from the fob may work again. Happy to be corrected
