  1. For that I would quote Gartner - Who have already laid down predictions that the shortage on silicon based semi conductors will not be improving until Q3 (July - September) 2022 at the earliest. Unfortunately, as they are the experts in market analysis they are usually correct to the nearest quarter.
  2. If a part breaks in a computer, I replace the part, not the entire computer - even if it's flash soldered microelectronics - Apple just lost a court case in the states with the supreme courts, you can damn well bet car manufacturers will targetted to the same effect soon.
  3. Especially given the whole right repair legal movements going on around the world at the moment. I cannot believe that an LED light unit is impossible to repair or replace the lens of, given the right equipment, this is just a copout to force customers to pay up for obscene OEM costs.
  4. The world shortage is for silicon semiconductors related to computer chips, not compound gallium based.
  5. We just had 21 LED Screen panels arrive from China in 3 weeks (the type used in the big screens at music festivals), including manufacturing. There is no shortage of LED based production elements.
  6. Semiconductors maybe, LED's not so much. Skoda themselves owned up that the controllers will be salvaged from the existing light, so there are no semiconductors impacting this.
  7. If you are able to pick when speccing your car, consider this. Skoda in the UK have told me that a replacement single unit is £655 + VAT and requires 1-1.5 hours technician work to fit at £120 -180 + VAT. Add in that currently, they are not stored on shelves in a warehouse like the non-matrix headlights are, they are made to order. So if one dies, you are looking at a minimum of 2 weeks to get the part ready for installation. I would jump at the chance to have them removed from my car in favour of the standard LED lights at 1/4 of the overall price, alas not an option.
  8. The network that comes built-in uses infrastructure provided by EE. So if you are living anywhere outside of the centre of a city in the UK, you won't have enough signal coverage for that to work. I needed a minimum of 4G to get it working consistently.
  9. If you remember the off kilter pedal boxes of some italian cars from the 80's and early 90's, I sit in a similar position to that, left foot on the rest next to the centre console bit, then the gap between that and the break pedal is where my right foot goes, means I can stretch out and still be able to reach quickly to brakes. I have a 42" inside leg, so if I can do it that way, anyone can I think.
  10. Got another kick in the teeth today, Skoda don't have any in stock worldwide, so i've been waiting a week for them to tell me this, so apparently this means they don't have a stock ordering database that could've told them this in 2 seconds flat either? Now i've potentially got to wait another 2 weeks for them to build one to order. So by the time i get the light it will be 6 weeks from purchase, and i'll have only had the car in my possession for half of that. Not setting a good precedence for me.
  11. So long story short, hit a pigeon at 40mph on a B road the other night. Glass lens on the passenger side is the victim, and because its a Matrix LED unit its full replacement only at £655 + £120-180 fitting. Didn't do any damage to the bodywork at all, pigeon turned into giblets, and the light mounts are completely fine as well. Questionable glass quality springs to mind, as i've hit bigger fowl than that with less damage done in the past. (I'll post photos once i've got off the phone with insurer)
  12. According to the Grid on the document Hyper Green is on the Solid Colour row in the Special Colour column. Also taking a still from the mamba video and checking it's colour against the pantone check in the pdf gives a colour difference of less than 2%.
  13. That is rubbish. I ran recirculate for 2 years in a Honda Civic without issue. My commute length is 13 miles each way for crying out loud.
  14. I'm being driven nuts having to select recirculate every time i get in the car - I'm at a loss what the point of having personalised users is, if the settings i make get reset every time i get in the car?
  15. When I went in to my local dealer, they gave me a rough realistic timescale of between 6-9 months for delivery times on a new build vRS, which is why I bought their demo instead. Would rather have a car than sit and wait for it to be pushed back eternally (been through that already with the Audi A1 back in 2019 - 3 months turned into 10 and ended up going elsewhere entirely).
  16. Now if dash cam manufacturers could just get on board with producing usb C powered cameras so we don't have to run janky cables that would be awesome. Had to resort to stuff the excess cable in between the headliner and the roof.
