  1. Okay, so the cleaning started at this point. Nothing major, and in fact not a lot to show, but it's a step in the right direction as they say. First a spot of the old Muc-Off in the usual places... door shuts, plastic trim, petrol cap, etc: Even under the "bonnet" On from that, just a normal wash. Which left me with the following: ...highlighting the worst "defect" on the paintwork. I'll take some more pics of this, plus some of the other defects. There's an odd mark on the nsf door... Anyway, just to protect it a little I chucked some Meg's on it I had lying around: ...which left her like this: That's how she is now.
  2. Well, this weekend I managed to get her cleaned up a little. Nothing special, and the outside didn't really need it as it was "washed" by the dealer. (I used washed in inverted commas as if Baker reads this he'll say something about washing it with a nice gravelly brick ) Anyway, here's a few pics of how she looked when she arrived, plus of course a trip up the M6 to mum's in Cannock: She's done 122k, so there's a little bit of damage/wear to the car as you'd expect. The interior is in damn good nick actually, other than needing a serious clean and a couple of slightly worn dash parts: The only work I've done on the interior so far is to clean the plastic parts with a generic cleaner as they were fairly filthy (to the point where my hands were actually dirty after I'd driven it ), and a slight spray of AG Interior Shampoo on the drivers seat. However there were more pressing issues... the wheels are in shocking condition: ...yes, that last one's been sprayed. Probably with something from Halfords... Anyway, check this out for a "stone chip": :eek: That must have made a hell of a bang, it's about the size of a table tennis ball!!
  3. Thanks for all the comments folks Yeah, that's my mum's Furby. Or, it's the one I drive when I'm fed up with 75bhp! I've heard the remap to over 100bhp, so yes it will!! Yes, it did. The guy I bought it off had a 2004 Merc on his drive with a four character plate (two numbers and his initials), so I don't think he needed an Irish one! Works for me though! In fairness to Ross, I did give him the opportunity to say no as I know they're a pain in the bum, but he's well up for the, er, challenge. So, she's off to Unit 18 soon! That said though, I'm not sure about having to take the bonnet off completely just to change a light bulb, but I'd rather do that than loose a couple of fingers like I did with the Superb...
  4. Well, here's my new project in all her, er, original/unclean/unkept/dirty/unloved/just arrived glory: Spec is as follows: 2001 Audi A2 1.4 TDI (75bhp) SE 2001 "Y" plate 122k miles (March 2009) 16" alloy wheels Totally, totally, standard! Say hello to the latest member of the Briskoda fleet More to follow.
  5. Well, this is the final entry in Chloe's project diary as I've moved on. :( Updates from a her most recent service, which I did at Unit 18. Ross kindly let me and Baker use the ramps as Baker was detailing that VRS estate. So, first things first - get some cleaner on that filter. Way overdue Next, removal of the engine covers... ...lead to confirmation of that leaky EGR valve: Yuk. It was decided to leave it as it was, as it'd only leak again. They all do. Anyway, not much coming out of it and she doesn't use oil so I moved onto the ramps: ..and had a quick battle with the under tray. The garage, who I will never goto again, who "fitted" my last CV gaiter way back when mis fitted the tray. Which in turn lead to it flapping around for 12k, catching on every speed bump and cracking in 70mph winds. Not impressed. Anyway a few checks revealed all was OK on the CV gaiter front (well, the one they "fitted" leaked slightly but nothing that wouldn't be fixed by someone who knew what they were doing) and confirmed that she was suffering from another Superb problem, nice oily intercooler hoses: The rest of the service went according to plan, with new oil & filter, new pollen filter - with the my previous sealing job still working a treat I'd like to add - and replacing of the (now finally clean & re-oiled) K&N. That, then, was the last work I ever did on her except today's of returning her back to bog standard. I have taken a pic but I'm not putting it on here. As I said, she's left me now and is on her way to a new home. Hopefully someone off here will buy her and continue where I left off, but I doubt it. I'm staying around here anyway, I like the people on this site and in honesty I think Chloe's new owner will as well; so I hope they do arrive back here. The new project diary of my Audi will be up here shortly, and I'll update my sig pic soon. Just one last photo of her next to Baker's Superb - fitting, as it was his car that got me on here in the first place. Bye bye Chloe!
  6. Perhaps this would be better in the Superb II section then... I've no idea about this feature, but I do suspect you'll need Vagcom. I did read "daytime running lights" and think "wtf"... until I gave it more thought!
  7. By "new Superb" do you mean a Superb Mk2? Or is it the older shape Mk1? Welcome by the way
  8. Bah. I'm taking my stereo out of my SUPERB tomorrow so I'll measure the current from the SUPERB to the stereo. Then I'll drive into you in my AUDI for being cheeky.
  9. Well, I can check the current on the wire but my car has an Alpine CDA-9853R, so I'm not sure if that'll help you or not...
  10. Thanks for all the kind words and support folks, I appreciate it. That's exactly the reason I'm sticking around! I'll post up a new thread when I've got her here, after putting the final update on my Superb's PD. Thanks for the input on the A2 as well, everyone who provided it... looks like it's got just as many problems as any other car, but I'll sure as hell not miss that bloody pollen filter housing!!
  11. Didn't you see the sign that says "customers with weak hearts should refrain from entering the store"? You're right - we're cheaper than most on a lot of units. Sadly the Kenwood isn't one of them. Hence why I haven't got one yet!
  12. Plug plug! Actually, it is an impressive piece of kit. Very very impressive. It's a credit to Ross' workmanship. That said though, I'm not at all convinced that you, sir, have a "mild map".... that's like saying I have "mild" grey hair... Regards, Greyfox.
  13. Hmm, I can think of a forum full of people who'd disagree with that statement... Wonder where?
  14. Well, I'm afraid to say it, but as a couple of you know already and it'll be pretty obvious soon enough; I'm getting rid of my Superb. It's not something I want to do, it suits my needs right down the ground - it's quick enough, comfy enough, big enough, looks good enough, it ticks all the boxes - except it's more expensive to run than I can justify. As you can see I live in Rugby, and most of you know I work for Halfords at their head office in Redditch; which is a 42 mile each way commute. As a result my fuel expenses alone are somewhat, er, large... So I'm trading it in for an Audi A2 TDI at the weekend. Pics will of course follow. I don't want to get rid of her, she's been great; but with a 50% reduction on my insruance and £35/yr tax, let alone the up to 78mpg economy, I can hardly say no... I'm staying on the forum anyway, it's not like I'm the only Briskodian without a Skoda, and you're all a nice bunch of folk here (so I'm told ) but clearly I'll not have a Superb any more. So, there you have it
  15. That's an interesting theory, most of them seem to fail with a short to earth so I suppose it's technically possible. However everyone on here I've seen with sensors has had a problem with them at some point, although clearly the only time someone would post about it is when they're going wrong... so the data's probably slightly skewed.
  16. Says he with a ga-zillion lb/ft... Yes, Dragon's are available. Baker had one fitted for a while as did someone else... Gizmo? Sorry, I can't remember
  17. Excuse me, as I explained at the time, I charge extra for that service
  18. Hmm. I purchased one of those "resistor in a box" units from eBay, the results are in my project diary. My money would be on a remap - the PD105 remaps very smoothly, so I believe, whereas the PD130 has more grunt out of the box but is less refined. Both remap to roughly the same power output with a generic remap.
  19. I think it depends on how you drive - regeneration seem to take place more often when you do low speed, stop start driving than it does when you drive at consistently high speeds. So, if you do a lot of motorway work then that might explain it
  20. There's always one... Although, ignoring the possibility that it's just PR, that V12 TDI will have a wall of torque capable of stopping the world turning. I pity the fool who has to design a drivetrain to cope with that...
