  1. Agreed... I've a drilled airbox in mine and it's changed the sound dramatically, espesically with the standard dump valve. It looks like my exhaust is on its way out as well so it might be a trip to Powerflow soon... Anyway, as for sound - if you're after a nice sounding engine, why are you buying a derv in the first place?
  2. Hmm, I'm not impressed with the ticket prices... Plus it appears as though SWMBO is "out with the girls" on Saturday night, so I'll be required to look after the little one on Sunday  Looking forward to some pics of the show though
  3. Yeah, you did say that, sorry, I forgot That Kenwood unit looks good value for money. We sell one at Halfords which is similar, but retails at about £900 with us. Free fitting mind  I think they'll say that if the unit has caused the "problem" with the car, then they'll not cover under warranty. I know dealers can be a bit funny but I've never seen them refuse warranty because of an aftermarket stereo.
  4. Here, here! Yes, the crash videos are not for the feint hearted by the way. Since watching those I've invested in some leg protection for when I crash into things.
  5. My advice is always to have separate units for separate purposes - headunit for the sounds, hands free kit for the phone. For example, Parrot CK3000 evo's can be had for as little as £50. As for the iPhone - try going to an audio shop with your iPhone and trying it. Halfords, for example, have the stereos installed such that you can connect your iPod etc straight into the demo units to try for yourself. Well, I say that, they should...
  6. Here we go again 1.9 130bhp if you're in the UK, V6 if you use the Autobahn. on fence>
  7. Hmm, interesting. I've never tried myself - and I have to wonder what on earth you've got on it, as I'm 6'1 and my head/hair never touches the roof. Still, I'd treat it like normal upholstery and deal with it however you would that - perhaps AG Interior Shampoo, Megs APC, something like that. I don't think it's anything special. Where's our resident compulsive? Wonder if he's tried anything...
  8. Seriously though Diesel makes a great point about speed. If you need that kind of speed then it's by far the best option.
  9. Ha ha, yeah, I found that when I was looking to buy my Superb. That said though, would you trust that huge plastic bumper not to take a massive amount of damage if you so much as even touched someone's handbag? Or, say, topically, a bollard?
  10. On a Superb I, it's very very easy. The head unit itself just slides out, and if you want to fit a double DIN unit (like the DX sat nav) you just remove the drawer underneath. The CD changer makes it a little more difficult, as in you won't get an OE changer to work with aftermarket units - but if you really want one then you can buy an aftermarket changer to match your head unit. Most people tend to use iPods or similar, they're generally more reliable. Downside of course is that you will loose your Maxidot (information display between the clocks, assuming you have it) and your steering wheel controls unless you buy an interface. That said though, I think the benefits of increased sound quality and functionality of an aftermarket head unit far outweigh the drawbacks of the stereo info on the Maxidot and steering wheel controls, IMHO
  11. Welcome to the site You'll struggle finding any body modifications for the Superb, with the exception of a couple of different badges and a lip spoiler for the bootlid - and in terms of custom, make sure you've got the correct vents in the correct places for the radiators, intercooler(s). Personally I'd not bother - a bumper's one thing, but what about the rest of the kit? Side skirts, rear bumper, etc... plus the Superb's not really a car for bodykits. I'd spend your money on a set of coilovers and a nice set of wheels
  12. It's true to say they may never know (unless the MK Secret Police are snooping) but technically servicing it oneself will invalidate your warranty, unless of course one is VAT registered.
  13. The alloys are indeed not everyone's cup of tea - in terms of OE wheels I think the Solid's suit the car very very well; I'm not so keen on other OE Skoda rims either. Anyway, stereo. To my knowledge, VAG didn't use an "upgraded" system in Skoda cars - they did however in Audi (BOSE). As a result I think the only "upgrade" is/was the DX sat nav which was an £1800 option as new. In honesty I wouldn't reject a car just becuase of it's stereo - the amount of aftermarket stuff avaialble now for cheap, and the huge amount of companies who can install compently, it seems that there's little point searching for a stereo "upgrade". Also, yes, Parrot make good kits - with the possible exception of the MKi9200 which I personally think is too gimmicky and more trouble than it's worth - plus it doesn't work with (very well) with the iPhone. IMHO stick to the basic CK3000 evo or if you must have a screen go fo the LS3200 Color. HTH
  14. I would assume as it's 150bhp it's a derv, I think the 2.5 V6 petrol is something like 180-190bhp.
  15. Well, yes, fair enough - even the pre-06 ones are not exactly cheap to tax. Re-record, not fade away...
  16. The DPF is a diesel particulate filter, and it's a pain in the ****. There's loads on here about it if you search for DPF
  17. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure the Fabia does have the same type of system, but I'm unsure about the calliper manufacturer.
  18. Yep, but remember that works both ways as well - they deprecate really really fast, so you can forget about residuals. Still, good luck and let us know if/when you buy one
  19. Hmm, that said, MucOff vs APC in cost (from a few suppliers) is as follows: Halfords - 5l MucOff @ £34.98 delivered = £6.99/litre Polishing Shop - 10l MucOff @ £26.97 delivered = £2.70/litre Elite Car Care - 3.78L APC @ £20.98 delivered: 4:1 (18.9l of product) = £1.11/litre 10:1 (41.6l of product) = £0.50/litre Busters - 10l MucOff @ £29.98 delivered - £2.99/litre So, despite the bargain price of the Polishing Shop if you're comparing it to APC then that should win hands down... EDIT: changed to include Busters for the sake of completeness
  20. Whaaaaaaaaaat!!:eek::eek: That is a BARGAIN - MucOff's normally circa £7/litre from everywhere, so £27 for 10 litres is a steal!!! Seriously though, I use MucOff all the time on everything, car, bike, SWMBO, the lot. It's brilliant stuff and in terms of wheels it is probably one of the best cleaners I've used. It is indeed alkaline based, but it's not that strong - so it should be okay for not stripping any sealants that have been applied, although as my wheels are currently unsealed I've not tried this. Thanks for the heads up on the price
  21. Bah . Has Baker been paying you? Nice looking car by the way, the interior is indeed a peach - and if you don't like the sat nav I'll happily take it off your hands for a couple of pints
  22. Not overly. My tyres still wear quick(er than I'd like, certainly) but they don't have the inside edge problem a lot of folk seem to suffer from. Definitely helps the body roll however without being too harsh on the ride.
  23. My opinions are generally in line with Roto's on this one, but... I know not of the V6 petrol, but if Lummox says they're a good motor I'm happy with that, and they're certainly dirt cheap (147mph for sometimes less than £2k anyone?) - which almost makes the £400/yr VED worth it.
