  1. Friction material would make sense to me. I will be doing mine every 2 years from now on!
  2. Wow! That seems a lot. Is this the first time after 3 years or after one year? What do you think it is - hopefully not metallic - and how many miles had you done? Looks like I need to motivate myself to do mine now I'm out of warranty. A really useful picture. Thank you for sharing it.
  3. I don't know what has prompted the reduction in oil change interval. They can't use the same excuse as brake fluid changes - to align with their electric vehicles! Yes, you can instruct the dealer to clean the filter - I believe they do have a standard time for it. They will charge you extra but then oil changes on the Haldex and DSG are considered 'extras' (ie outside the standard service content) also. As a retired Chartered Engineer, it bothers me that anyone would consider changing any lubricant in a mechanical system without doing anything to the associated filtration.
  4. I have a Karoq 4x4 (same Haldex I believe) which is now 3 years old and out of warranty so it's just had what might be its last main dealer service. Whilst discussing future servicing requirements with the (excellent) service staff, they told me the Haldex service interval was reduced to 2 years sometime in 2024. Based on advice from a family member with a very low-mileage dealer-serviced Yeti 4x4 owned from new, I had an oil change done on my Karoq as an extra after only 1 year. However, my understanding from the family 'expert' is that it is the filter change which is important and that is not included (or wasn't) in the service schedule. Happy to be proved wrong by those with superior knowledge.
  5. Update to my previous post: The garage just off Gloucester Rd is now called PC Motors (was Elm Road Garage?) it is at Unit 1A Elm Road - same place it always was. Don't know if it has changed hands with the name change but it still markets itself as a VAG specialist. Looking at Google Reviews, they are mostly good with a couple of negative ones.
  6. I'm in the Bristol area too. I bought my Karoq used from Heritage Skoda in Weston super Mare and got them to fit the Skoda retractable tow hitch and full electrics two weeks later. IIRC they charged me just over the equivalent of what I would have had to pay for a third party tow-bar (Witter) and the wiring loom / modules from PF Jones. The advantage is that they also did the set-up programming (which I believe is necessary once the loom is connected). I wouldn't normally go to a main dealer but with them fitting it, it was included in the balance of my warranty and I thought the price was not unreasonable. I wouldn't touch them for routine servicing - they're simply too expensive (as is the Bristol branch). I take mine to Platinum in Bath (Skoda dealer) whose prices are much more reasonable - might be worth asking them to quote for a tow bar. I've used a couple of mobile towbar fitters over the years but not on a Skoda and not where full electrical integration is required. I've also used Honeybourne trailers in Ashton Gate - but not sure if they're still going. There is an independent Skoda specialist (Elm Ltd?) just off Gloucester Road but I haven't tried them for routine work yet - might be worth asking them too as no doubt they have all the programming equipment. Be very interested to know how you get on.
  7. I have a 4WD DSG petrol Karoq as I tow a small boat (actually quite a heavy one at 500 kg). It was my first Skoda and I'm very pleased with it. My wife likes it too for everyday use. Can't comment on suitability for work as I'm retired but the boot's a reasonable size. Two things are unexpectedly good for towing: the cruise control is a joy and if you get one with a reversing camera, you can position the tow hitch right under the trailer evety time.
  8. Is this attitude really necessary? I have benefitted a number of times from Carlston's extensive and accurate knowledge, as have others on here. Your claim that Carlston's post is wrong is clealy incorrect in itself.
  9. I don't have the bells and whistles either. My image looks the same as Rory's although I'm pretty sure I can see a thin sliver of number plate all the way across.
  10. Yes, I do too. Like you, I didn't notice it to start with. Probably took me a couple of months! Having said that, I think it might be possible to move the camera direction slightly by applying finger pressure and attempting to move the outer transparent surface. I haven't deliberately tried this as I don't want to spoil the current set-up. As a 'reversing camera sceptic', I am completely won over through using it to couple my boat trailer as I can now position the tow-ball so precisely that all I have to do is lower the trailer socket vertically to engage it. Absolute boon with a heavy boat.

My 2022 Karoq Sportline with Android Auto works so well that I use my phone with it all the time. I just ensure data, location and Bluetooth are switched on on the phone before starting the car and Android Auto does the rest. I never renewed my Skoda Connect subscription and have never missed it. BTW, I also have wireless charging.
  12. The only time I used this, the route took 2 hours before being received in the car. I was 5 mins away from my destination at the time! It's Android Auto and Google Maps every time for me now. It 'just works'. Keep meaning to try Waze but I know Google's foibles so well It does the job for me. If I check a route beforehand on my PC then the destination's there in Recent Destinations as soon as Google Maps starts.

I suppose if I was really brave, I could let 10 PSI out of one tyre and then drive it up the road for a mile or so to see what happens........................................
  14. Rgsmg53 replied to thamestrader's topic in Skoda Karoq
Yes, I don't understand the logic of 'resetting' the TPMS once a year / 10k kms either. To me, TPMS seems like another unnecessary piece of 'tech'. As you rightly say, all 4 tyres could lose pressure over time and, if the tyres are all in similar condition, then I would expect any gradual pressure loss to be at a very similar rate. My guess is the real driver for TPMS is warning of a 'sudden' onset of a puncture. But in 50 years of motoring, I can 'feel' a sudden puncture long before it goes completely flat (ie ruins the tyre). My Sportline does not have smart tyre valve caps so obviously this type of TPMS does not measure pressure directly. The only way I believe it can do it therefore is by comparing the rolling diameters of each tyre and of course this will depend on tyre wear and (theoretically) on tyre loading. Anyway, I have dutifully done my type pressure checks again today and added a couple of PSI to each tyre according to my pressure gauge (Bourdon tube type). The need for a couple of PSI in each tyre is almost certainly due to the ambient temperature being a trifle chilly for early May! Have now reset the TPMS in accordance with the manual and on-screen instructions. Final message on screen showed "Tyre pressures saved". We'll see what happens.

Just re-read my online manual yet again and see it recommends re-setting TPMS once a year /10k km. So I'll give mine another go tomorrow. How about you @thamestrader? Didn't mean to hijack your thread. Apologies.

I have exactly the same problem. I've tried everything I can think of. No joy. Being old school, I'm not wasting any more time on it. Just gone back to my old regime of regular checks with a good quality pressure gauge. I also believe I'm experienced enough to feel a big discrepancy developing unexpectedly, especially with the low profiles. No doubt someone will argue with that approach.
  17. I have a 2022 2.0l 4x4 Sportline. Not a bad vehicle at all but, for me, won't set the world on fire. Mine was bought as a low mileage used vehicle from a Skoda dealer and seems to include a hotch potch of features - according to the salesman there was a lot of spec variation due to post-Covid shortages and the vehicles were dumped on dealers pre-registered. Mine has a reversing camera for instance. I do not have LA or TSR. I bought mine to tow a boat so I had a Skoda electrically-operated folding tow bar fitted by the selling dealer. I did a fair amount of looking at alternatives and the genuine Skoda version was very competitive on the supply and fitted price. I'm pretty sure my vehicle had the towbar prep as it is a very neat installation (completed in less than a day) with the switch in the load compartment and has all the functions including trailer angle on the reversing camera. Towing a reasonably heavy traditional sailing dinghy is a delight with cruise control and the lovely 7-speed DSG.
  18. Update: I've just had my Year 2 / 20,000 mile service carried out by Platinum Skoda, Bath. The vehicle has only done just over 7k miles. Having discussed with the Service Manager what had to be done to maintain warranty, it boiled down to: 1. Oil Service Inspection - essentially engine oil and filter change plus general vehicle check. 2. Brake fluid change. 3. Pollen filter replacement. The Service Manager explained that until recently the first brake fluid change was after 3 years then every 2 years thereafter. He told me that Skoda has now changed it to blanket every 2 years in order to align with electric Skodas which have 2 yearly service intervals. Apparently, the original 3 years caused all sorts of problems with the electric cars as they were needing just brake fluid changes every alternate year (3, 5,7 etc). Seems a plausible change with the manufacturer taking the 'safe' option. I also asked when the Haldex should have its oil changed - which caused a lot of head scratching! No one really knew so I asked them to do it as an extra. I know the DSG is on mileage only (60k I think) but I now know of 2 dealer-serviced Yetis well out of warranty which have had Haldex issues. The dealers had 'forgotten' to ever change the oil. I have to say that Platinum's prices were not unreasonable and were considerably less than the 'standard' prices quoted by the selling dealer (Heritage Skoda) who, incidentally, tried to tell me I needed an air-con service too. Add the exceptional customer service on the day and the complimentary wash and interior valet and it wasn't as bad an experience as I was expecting.
  19. @NottsIan A big thank you to you for pointing me in the direction of ErWin. I duly paid my 1 hour subscription and have now downloaded what Skoda claims to be the definitive version of the service schedule for my vehicle. I entered my VIN which was accepted as corect and it returned the correct vehicle detsils. The document version supplied against the VIN is dated September 2023 and covers MY 2020 onwards which applies to my VIN with a factory release date of February 2022. There's 254 pages so I'm going to start wading through it in slow time. @CJJE I refused to pay the renewal fee for Skoda Connect in May last year based on it being a complete waste of time for me. For instance, the pre journey route planner never downloaded into the car inside two hours by which time I'd reached my destination! However, it looks as if I might have shot myself in the foot as the latest website - haven't looked at the Android app yet - is most impressive and looks to have many more features than before. Of course, the Digital Certificate needs an up to date subscription so I might have to consider stumping up another year's subscription. To all other contributors to this thread: Many thanks for your inputs. I think I now have the Service info I require and the Digital Certificate should confirm the warranty expiry date. I only started this thread as I have booked a Year 2 service this month with my preferred Skoda dealer (not the one I bought the vehicle from - their service prices are way above the recomended levels) and the latter are still looking into why their service scheduling tool is giving erroneous data against my VIN.
  20. This is very helpful. Thank you. But it raises more questions! My car was first registered in March 2022 (with Skoda as first owner) and I bought it used from a Skoda main dealer in December 2022. My understanding (verbal from the Salesman who it now seems was confused as to the duration of the warranty) was that I had the balance of the manufacturer's warranty so I am hoping your Warranty Terms document applies even though it is dated July 2023. My belief is that I do NOT also have the Approved Used Car Warranty (as defined in your VWFS document) as I am assuming I cannot have the benefit of both. Your comment on cars leaving the factory with 24 months / 18-20k miles until the first service is interesting. Presumably this applies to vehicles after mine was manufactured as my first service was this time last year (ie 1 year from manufacture) with a mileage of less than 3k miles. How did I know to get it serviced? The vehicle's own infotainment system told me - repeatedly! Perhaps you can understand why I'm confused!
  21. Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what the DVLA website brings to the party - I own the vehicle so have a hardcopy V5 which means the date of first registration is not in doubt. What I am after is a difinitive source on the warranty which I can access myself rather than rely on hearsay. As I said in my orignal post, the Main Dealer's salesman told me I had the balance of TWO years' warranty whereas my preferred Main Dealer for service is now telling me I have THREE. You seem very sure of your servicing facts. Where did you get the info from? As you will see from later posts, there are differing opinons on this forum also as what is required at a 2nd year fixed interval service. As a first time Skoda buyer who is broadly pleased with the vehicle, the lack of transparency from Skoda dealers is deeply frustrating.
  22. Thanks. I haven't come across erWin before.
  23. Please forgive a couple of basic questions on my 2022 Karoq Sportline 4x4: 1. How do I check for myself when the warranty expires without relying on someone at the dealership 'looking it up on the computer' then telling me something different to when the salesman sold it to me? Can I access a website myself and enter the VIN perhaps? I bought it nearly new (97 miles on the clock) from a Skoda dealer who told me I had 'the balance of the manufacturer's warranty' as part of the sale. I'm now being told by a main dealer Service Dept that I have 3 years! I'm not complaining but I'd like to know which is correct. Of course, there's no hard copy info in the vehicle. 2. I'm about book its 2nd service (2 years not mileage) and the dealer does not seem to know what they have to do in addition to a 'standard oil change and inspection' as they claim when they 'enter the VIN in the computer it shows up as a Roomster'. So far, they have guessed a pollen filter will be required and they 'think' a brake fluid change will be necessary (after only 2 years????). I'm also hearing that dealers frequently forget to do a Haldex oil change. So, same query as above. Does anyone know if I can access the definitive servicing schedule online for myself? Call me old fashioned but what I'd give for a hardcopy service book in the glove box!
  24. I have had the same problem with my Samsung phone. What I have discovered by trial and error is to enter the car with bluetooth, wifi and data turned off on the phone then switch on car ignition / engine then switch on bluetooth and data on the phone. Currently this works every time. It's no hardship to me because I keep my phone's wifi and data off unless I need it (old habit from things I learnt working in the Defence Industry!) but I know it annoys others.
  25. Please don't apologise. What you posted has been really useful. I have had a USB drive permanently plugged in since before Christmas and, despite some long journeys over the Christmas / New Year period, nothing appeared to have changed. Certainly there were no notifications in the pull-down window. I'd therefore decided that the USB wasn't working when suddenly last week after a 2 mile trip the display showed exactly the same as you posted in you photo above but once we had come to a standstill. So, of course I accepted and almost immediately got a message saying the update was complete! Still nothing in the notification window though. So, I can only assume that the USB update DID work and now it has enabled the 'update at any time' function. My next task is to go back on to the Skoda website enter my VIN and check what the latest version codes are. If there's anything that it appears I have not got already then I'll probabaly try loading it via the USB stick again although I'm not sure this should be necessary any longer. What would you advise?
