Brake pad change with EPB
Pro subscription and following instructions worked for me

Brake pad change with EPB
My 2021 Octavia needed the SFD unlock which as confirmed with OBD11 over chat required pro subscription. No issues once I paid for that - could then use the one time apps at 10 credits a time. I found no discernible movement in the pistons unless it was ‘wound’ - has two notches for the same.

Brake pad change with EPB
Having done my rears recently OBD11, Pro Subscription is required. Also credits if using the ‘apps’. After letting off the EPB I found first one really tough to use manual wind back tool to create enough clearance. The other side was much less of an issue.

Oil Usage 1.5 Petrol
Wondering if anyone else has any experience? Over the weekend saw oil was down to bottom of the dipstick markings. Before I could get some to top up my next journey also gave me a warning. Added 0.5l which has brought it back to around just under half way. 12k miles since last service in October. Is this usage normal? Just keep topped up until next service in 6.7k? With my previous diesels was used to some consumption but didn’t expect so much with a new petrol engine. Should also add - anyone know the total oil capacity? Thanks

'22 RS - is wheel alignment two-wheel or four-wheel?
I perviously posted a copy of the report here

'22 RS - is wheel alignment two-wheel or four-wheel?
When I had mine done last year I was told only adjustment on the fronts was possible.

Mirror USB charging socket
I bought a 90 degree ‘elbow’ to reduce how much it stuck out, routed toward the passenger / near side and just wrapped the excess cable a few times around the mirror stalk and cable tied. Probably a 60 -80cm cable?

Octavia IV 2023: any way to change default of light setting?
No experience but I think coding via OBD11 will be the only way forward.

Lane assist - does anyone actually like it?
I only turn off in scenarios like this or when driving some quiet country roads

Anyone towed with the MK4
Bought my ‘21 (71 plate) Octavia Hatch used in April. In my search I had to always call up and send the dealer out to check the VIN plate before visiting to look. Not sure there is any other record / way to tell in my research and discussions. Specifying Towing Prep at purchase only assured it didn’t have 0kg, otherwise it is/was random. Mine certainly wasn’t speced for towing prep yet is suitably plated. Just had my Westfalia, detachable towbar fitted this week, bought from PF Jones who also arranged fitting. Not used yet. For cars with Towing Prep I understand the wiring is already in place in the boot to plug straight into rather than needing to run it upto the dash. Obviously didn’t have reason to look into but the parts and fitting was a fixed price in either case. Software updates required too - this made my local fitters a lot more expensive than PF Jones’ price. One thing I hadn’t appreciated is you lose the use of the rear towing eye as the steel crash bar behind the bumper is replaced by the towing bracket. Not yet check eBay prices for these but might even make some money back on that.

Tyre Replacement Reccomendations
For anyone looking this is where I ended up. Same tyres (Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 205/55 R17 91V) on offer at less than £100 each fitted, balanced etc. so opted for the same with a free alignment check. Alignment did need doing and was £48 including VAT. So all in £245 to sort the front pair. Didn’t rotate as suspect I can move the front to the back about the same time as the rears will need replacing. My local family run tyre place seem to have lost their customer service skills so unfortunately not the trusted place of the past so am shopping more on price with the online offers. One chain I did stop by at wanted over £120 just to check alignment and rotate tyres even though the place was empty, company set prices apparently! Here was the alignment readout if it means anything to anyone…

Oil Change or Service
Terrible trouble getting any sense out of two dealers I have called (or at least their ‘centralised’ call centres). Hoping you all have worked this out and can enlighten me… Car new 31st Dec 2021 1st / last service inspection 31st Jan 2023. Mileage 10,273 Purchased by me April 2023, c. 11k Todays mileage 18,289 Oil change due 400 miles Inspection due 1700 / 121 days Do I have to bite the bullet and get both oil and service done now (and reset the variable clock)? Is there such thing as just a dealer oil change and have the service in a few more weeks time? My mileage will not be as significant as it has been since April between now and the end of the year. Thanks

Tyre Replacement Reccomendations
Have put around 6k on the car (1.5 TSI 2021 hatch) since I have had it with a total of 17k, tyres are original Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 205/55 R17 91V. Since day 1 of me having the car the outside wear on the fronts (as expected) has been pronounced but even more so now on the front left. It is a given that the alignment needs checking. Normally with my previous car (Toyota Verso) I would have the tyres rotated and see 25-30k+ out of a pair, choosing wisely those that wouldn't wear too quckly on the edge. Given the fronts on the Octavia are so far gone on the edge and getting to 3mm I am just going to write these off and have them changed before winter. Rears still have 4.5mm with a better edge but still not much too it - tempted to not rotate when I change the fronts and just leave them to see out thier time on the rear. The question - what are people doing well with for an all season tyre? Looking back a lot of previous threads mention the same Goodyears as I have but given UK roads with a mix of driving that I do wonder if this really is the best, especially for edge wear.

Fuel tank capacity?
2021 1.5 petrol Octavia here. Just managed to fill up with 51.85l today with 25miles to go. Having read the above last time I really try to fill to the brim as I have done to date - mainly to check reported MPG (coming out about 1-1.5 better than the calculation on the first 5 tanks or so)

Thule Roof Bars for Hatchback
Just in case someone is looking - I today fitted brand new Thule Wingbar Evo in silver to my Dec 2021 hatchback. Wingbar 127cm 711300 Evo Foot 710500 Kit 145283 Seems ok so far but just test fitted for today. Great Skoda have the locating points (something over my previous Toyotas).
