  1. Try completely shutting all the dash mounted vents. The user manual also tells you to do this if you want maximum blow on the screen. My dash vents stay shut all winter for this reason. Makes a huge difference. Other than that, just do what others have said. Change the pollen filter and do a code scan to see if you have any flaps playing up. If it's a mega bad condensation problem then check for damp carpets and other indications of a leak maybe.
  2. What fuel are you using? Recommend running a full tank of Shell V-Power through it and see if it picks up at all.
  3. If it was me I would just let it go and move on. Sad I know, but less risk/faff. Unfortunately our cars are pretty worthless now, so any serious repairs are hard to justify. Autotrader tells me mine is worth £1425 sold private and £834 sold to dealership. Depressing! Especially painful considering my car is still really clean and totally fault free. It's annoying in another way too, as I couldn't justify selling the car for that little money. Which means I won't buy a new car until this one dies! Good job I love the car really.....
  4. Just take it for a thrash and it'll pass no problem. You need to get the exhaust gas temperature up and sustain it. So you need lots of boost/load. Idling won't cut it.
  5. My drivers door was already de locked when I bought the car over 6 years ago, and I've never had a problem. Anyway, using the hatch lock with the key still operates the central locking and opens/locks all doors (as long as the car battery has juice obviously). I have however locked myself in the boot before!
  6. It's the catch can acting as a condenser. Normally the water vapour would not have a chance to condense and instead pass quickly back into the intake and get burnt. If you're not catching much oil, I'd just remove the can and go back to a standard simple breather system.
  7. RS is the real name and the original name. vRS is only used in the UK and was only used from early/mid 2000's due to legal complications with Ford. My 2002 car is officially an RS in the logbook for example. If you look at the main Skoda website you'll notice no mention of the little v! http://new.skoda-auto.com/en
  8. So the bush walked out of the turbine housing then. If it happens repeatedly you'll need to replace the turbine housing assembly as the interference fit obviously isn't up to it. Odd one! The power loss must have been quite noticeable with the valve not seated like that. You're right about the valve head movement. They are designed to rotate and articulate. Stops the valve catching on the seat and allows the valve to seat itself as well as it can. Interestingly the seats are also not machined flat. The seat face is machined at a slight angle, with the highest point on the inner edge. This also allows the valve to wear into the seat to improve sealing, plus it's much easier to seal an edge to a face. Good job you're observant enough to have spotted that!
  9. One of my badges dropped off in 2007. Pulled the other one off and never looked back. Changed my life. Pulling off scabs too early is less satisfying.
  10. Yeah Mk4 R32 engine would be much easier because it should fit straight in. Would need a turbo though! Look up the Seat Leon Cupra 4. 2.8 VR6 engined Mk1 Leon with 4wd. I want one....
  11. I have twin 3" slash cut (matching angle of bumper) tailpipes on mine. Fills the bumper void perfectly and looks great. It was a one-off cat-back system made for me by Janspeed.
  12. Yeah for some strange reason Banbury is served by Coventry TPS. Looks odd on their map, as there are places further North of Banbury that are served by the Oxford branch! I guess it's a capacity thing. http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/territories/t_coventry.php
  13. Thanks for rubbing it in guys! Sounds like I need to get on to TPS Coventry then. I used TPS when I was up in Yorkshire, but that was a while ago. £26 for everything? Epic bargain. I get all my MANN filters free which is nice though....
  14. Holy crapola £80! Jokers. Makes my £25 tub look like a bargain. I'll take some pics of it once fitted tomorrow.
  15. I've just switched oil brands for the first time in 6 years. So I thought I'd share the excitement with you geezers! I've always religiously used Castrol Edge 5W-30, but it's just too damn expensive now. £47 for a 4 litre bottle plus £20 for a 1 litre bottle at Halfords, so potentially £67 for an oil change. Obviously you could slap on your trade discount, but it'll still be well over £50. Anyway. Changed to VW Quantum Longlife III 5W-30 from the Skoda garage. Identical specs and the bottle is the same colour too.... £41.50 for 5 litres (I got a pathetic 10% discount so others may get it cheaper). The two oils are rumoured to be identical too, which wouldn't surprise me. End of oil based excitement. I'll go back to sleep now.
  16. Ouch, that was expensive! £20.80 + vat for the "storage box" including rubber mat in the onyx colour (which is black basically and matches the RS interior). Other colour options are beige and grey. The wife spilt a cup of coffee in the car last night. Nice big brown puddle under the floor mat. I managed to remain calm! Luckily got home and got some upholstery cleaner on it before it dried, so it's as good as new again now. I might implement some form of gyroscopic cup holder mounted on the roof in future.... damn people with drinks! Sorry Si, I want less cups not more! The Polo holders do sound nice though so GLWS.
  17. Nice one buddy. Yeah I found 50p under my centre console when I removed it yesterday. Plus 11.5yrs of dead skin. Yummy. Enjoy those M&M's... After trawling through VAGCAT I think I've found what I'm looking for: 1U0863077 47H (storage box for centre console - onyx) Hopefully it's only a few quid from the dealer. If you could confirm that it's correct when you get yours out that would be perfect. I'm excited by the prospect that I'll have somewhere to put my phone while it's charging finally!
  18. ZF Lemforder is the OEM, so fit those ones. The Febi arms will be pattern parts.
  19. A bit of a thread revival here, but here goes... Anyone got a part number or picture of the alternative "tray" to the RS cup holder (in black/onyx)? My cup holder next to the handbrake popped up by itself yesterday and wouldn't stay down. Stripped it all down and I've decided to replace it with the basic plain tray instead, as I hate that cup holder anyway. But I can't find any part numbers or images to help with procurement! Cheers guys
  20. Check that it's not the exhaust manifold to turbine housing gasket blowing first. Believe they are quite common. I have a similar small blow there on cold start, that goes once warm. Bought a gasket and new bolts/washers but not got round to changing it yet. Tried the other day, but I couldn't get the manifold heat shield off without removing the TIP from the compressor housing (the small heat shield fastener fouls the TIP as you back it out). I didn't have the time to play, so gave up on the day.
  21. Proper guide from MANN filters here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/284484-official-pollen-filter-change-instructions-mann/
  22. When I fit new discs and pads I bed them in the more aggressive way. Breaking hard from different speeds, then drive to cool them down. Always worked and never had an issue. I only fit OE discs though (Brembo/Zimmerman), so that may help too. The brakes were designed for use by Germans. So they can take a beating! Go get them nice and hot and eat into that disc surface a bit.
  23. For Mk1 Octavia, Mk1 A3, Mk4 Golf etc. PDF to download from the MANN website here: https://www.mann-hummel.com/online-catalog/media/einbauanleitung/HBY12J9T.pdf Obviously it's a pretty simple job to do without instructions, but thought it may be of assistance to someone.
